They were to be united in matrimony,
It should have been a grand ceremony!

He was rumoured to have patrimony,
He was notorious for his parsimony;

She dreamed a life of perfect harmony,
But was secretly scared of his acrimony;

Can their priest perform a sanctimony?
Will groom’s behaviour bear a testimony?
 
2. இடைப்பெண்.


அந்தண குரு ஒருவருக்குத் தவறாமல் பால்
அனுதினம் வழங்கும் ஒரு சிறு இடைப்பெண்;
ஆற்றைத் தாண்டி வரவேண்டி இருந்ததால்,
ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட நேரத்துக்கு வருவதே இல்லை!

ஒரு நாள் கூறினார் அந்த குரு அவளிடம்,
“சம்சாரக் கடலையே நம்மால் தாண்ட முடியும்;
ஒரு ஆற்றை உன்னால் தாண்ட முடியாதா?
சரசரவென்று நீ நீர்மேல் நடந்து வருவாய்!”

குருவிடம் முழு நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட பெண்
மறுநாள் முதல் விரைந்து வரலானாள்;
குரு கேட்டார் அப்பெண்ணிடம், “இப்போது
வருகின்றாயே நேரத்தோடு! எப்படி?” என்று.

“நீங்கள் சொன்னபடியே வருகின்றேன் ஐயா;
நீரைக் கடக்க நான் ஓடத்துக்கு நிற்பதில்லை!
ஓடத்துக்கு நின்றால் பொழுது ஆகிவிடும்;
நடந்து வருவதால் எனக்கு நேரம் மிச்சம்”

விக்கித்துப் போன குரு அவளிடம்,
“விரைந்து நடந்து காட்டு” என்று கூற,
விறு விறு என்று நீர் மேல் நடந்தாள்
வியத்தகு நம்பிக்கையுடன் அந்தப் பெண்.

திரும்பிப் பார்த்தவள் திகைத்து நின்றாள்.
தூக்கிய வஸ்திரத்துடன், நீரின் மேலே
நடக்க முடியாமல் நிற்கும் குருவினை.
நாவில் மட்டும் பகவான் நாமங்கள்!

“உங்கள் கடவுளின்மேல், குருவாகிய
உங்களுக்கே நம்பிக்கை இல்லையா?
நனைந்து விடுமோ வஸ்திரம் என்று
நினைந்து அஞ்சுகின்றீரே!” என்றாள்!

நினைத்தது நடக்கும், கேட்டது கிடைக்கும்,
மனத்தில் முழுதாக நம்பினால் மட்டுமே!
போதனை அனைவருக்கும் செய்யும் குரு
போதனை அன்று சிறுமியிடம் பெற்றார்.

He who bites more than he can chew is in danger

is always at the risk of being eliminated/ toppled/ overthrown!
 
The kids love to have their own private space - even if their house is sprawling and is as big as a foot ball field.

The kids here have a small castle complete with a watch tower!

It has three compartments ( rooms fashioned out of three big cardboard boxes) andthe entire exterior is pasted with beautiful green colored sheets .

The interior has a curtain between the two compartments. The whole castle has warm lining with the floor mats and covered with velvet throws and blankets.

No adults are allowed anywhere near the entrance. One has to crawl on the knees to enter the castle. So it is beyond the ability of most of the adults anyway.

Here is a proverb why personal space is so popular even among children.

தானே சிறந்த பக்தன் என்று
தாளாத மமதை கொண்டுவிட்ட,
தேவரிஷி நாரதரின் கர்வத்தை
தேவன் பங்கம் செய்த கதை இது!

“தன்னுடைய ஒரு சிறந்த பக்தன்
மன்னுலகில் உண்டு” என்றான்;
மூவுலகும் வலம் வரும் தேவ
முனிவரிடம் தாமரைக் கண்ணன்.

“என்னிலும் சிறந்த பக்தனா?” என
எள்ளி நகையாடிய முனிவரிடம்,
“நீயே சென்று கண்டு வா” என்று
நீல வண்ணன் ஆணை இட்டான்.

அந்த மனிதனோ ஒரு விவசாயி.
எந்த நேரமும் வேலைகள் தான்!
உதயத்தில் ஒரே ஒரு முறையும்,
உறங்குமுன் ஒரே ஒரு முறையும்,

ஹரி நாமத்தைக் கூறி வந்தான்.
பரிதவித்து உருகிவிடவில்லை.

முன்பே எண்ணையால் நிறைத்து!

உலகை வலம் வந்த முனிவரிடம்,
“உண்மையாகவே என்னை நீர்
எத்தனை முறை நினைத்தீர்?
என்னிடம் கூற வேண்டும்” என,

“ஒரு முறை கூட எண்ணவில்லை;
ஒருமித்த என்னுடைய கவனம்
எண்ணைக் கிண்ணத்தை மட்டுமே
எண்ணியபடி இருந்ததால், இறைவா!”

“வேலை வந்தவுடனேயே உமக்கு
வேளை இல்லை என்னை எண்ண!
வேளை தவறாமல் இருமுறை என்னை
வேலைகளிடையே எண்ணுகின்றானே!”

நாரதரின் பெருமையும், கர்வமும்
நாணமாக மாறிவிடக் கூறினார்,
“சஞ்சாரி ஆகிய என்னை விடவும்
சம்சாரி ஆகிய அவனே சிறந்தவன்!”

A girl is known by her parents in the place of her birth.

She is known by her husband where he works and lives.

She will be known by the name of her children later in life!

She may be known by the names of her grandkids - if they become world famous! :cool:
 
Listening to Chitti Babu's Siva leelaa Vilaasam made me go back in time by 36 years.
(Thirty six years is a very a long long time in a woman's life!)

Those days we the three ladies who enacted the dance drama (with just the music of veena)
could rehearse three times continuously without taking any break.

Since I (The Ganga Devi) had to be on the stage from the beginning to the end of the music,
it was dancing for about 80 minutes continuously - after eating lunch when we three were free.

For Smt. Raji Rm ( who was Gowri Devi) it meant to do the double role of a fisherwoman and Gowri
with just less than 3 minutes to transform herself from the village belle to the imposing Gowri Devi
complete with her kireetam , silk sari and other jewels.

(The reason for the time limitation for this total transformation from fisher woman to the Gowri Devi???
The music is continuous and can not be stopped in the middle and resumed from exactly the same point! )

Siva had the tough task of performing the robust thandavam at the end of the music.
The lean tall friend who played this role choreographed her own Siva thaandavam steps.

It was a run-away-success since no one knew what we were planning to do or practicing in secrecy.
They never imagined any such thing was possible for three married women who had kids.

The dance drama was enacted three times due to popular request.
The group broke since 'Siva' and 'Gowri' relocated to Chennai leaving behind the Ganga all alone.

But Ganga went ahead to perform the dance drama some more times
with the help of two of her students (younger than her own sons!)

To think of those days and these days... :(

It is true that the aim of Time and AGE is to RAVAGE every person.
But on second thoughts...why we should be dancing all our lives?

We can change our hobby to something more suitable for our age.
To write and type one needs only nimble fingers -
however wobbly the legs might have become.

So it is best to make one useful in the best possible way than pining for
what is lost for ever in the irreversible process of the Ravaging Aging.

So it is the number 1 which is the number 1 cause for this! :)

You can easily find the person who goes to the first page of every thread

and showers thus up for the statistics of that person !!!

I got 10 thumbs up for the first page in one of my threads in one day.
 
Definition of 'traffic' is fine but in our forum, even if one member scrolls down one page, the views might show + 10!

Should check with our dear moderator, though. ;)

உபயோகிக்கப்படும் பழமொழி.

"முடி இருக்கும் போது சீப்புக் கிடைக்காது.
சீப்புக் கிடைக்கும் போது முடி இருக்காது!"

என்பது போல் அல்ல "நாயைக் கண்டால்..... " என்பதன் பொருள்.

கல்லால் செய்யப்பட்ட நாயின் சிலையில் நம்மால்
கல்லைக் காண முடிந்தால் நாயைக் காண முடியாது.
நாயைக் காண முடிந்தால் கல் கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியாது.

Had it been the height of noon,
She had no real need to swoon!

She was allergic to any goon,
Who worked on like a typhoon!

She was watching a cartoon;

It must have been fairy’s boon,

Holding in each hand a silver spoon,
