Yesterday evening, a friend called Kunjambi hosted a dinner. A debate started over his name as some of the non TB friends were curious to know how this name was given to him as it was quite peculiar. This lead to another discussion on peculiar or TB specific names. we found the following names are prevalent among TBs only.

apart from Kunjambi, Panjabakesan, kanakasabesan, Anantha krishnan, Anantharaman, Venktraman, Venkitachalam, Sahasranaman, Ramanujam, Rangachari, Paranthaman, Ramasubban, Santhanam, Vaithy, Vaitheeswarn, Aandal, Alamelu, Annalakshmi were some of the names we could pin point. I am sure our forum members could contribute more to the list....

It is how we call him..Try calling kuppai in a low tone & with lots of love and affection and pronounce it as kuppehh! In Tamil we call it Vaanjai (வாஞ்சை)

Raji is not Rajalakshmi always!

My name is not Rajalakshmi! :nono:

BTW, nonbrahm girls by name Kodhai and AndaaL were my classmates in school. :)

Only TB names in title is a misnomer..We can at best say TB names...Lot of erstwhile FC's like Chettiar, Mudaliar, Pillai had these names...In any case some of these names are pass even by TB's and Hindi/ Sanskrit are quite commonly used

The shortened version Chandrasekar or Chandrasekaran is 'Chandru'. All the leading Heroes of Tamil Films had this name in their films at least once.

Ambi, Periambi, Chinnambi, Kuttiambi Andhu, Chinnandhu.Gopu, Gopali,

Ramani, Kannu, Chellam
Padhu for both Mala & Female.
