Understanding Arvind Kejriwal

Status
Not open for further replies.
I am now having second thoughts on AAP and Kejriwal's resolve to end corruption. He was handed with a larger than life responsibility and it is evident that he does not have the mettle to set things right through proper governance.

As one of the Delhi residents said on Times Now today, AAP is now Aam Aadmi Problem.

Solving the Problem AAP WAY

"Yes, I am an anarchist."

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today defied police orders, urged the capital to join him on a 10-day protest in the heart of the city, and declared defiantly, "Yes, I am an anarchist."

The Rapid Action Force was called in as Mr Kejriwal and his ministers sat on protest near the Rail Bhawan, close to the office of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the President's House.

Mr Kejriwal wants the union Home Ministry to suspend three police officers who refused to make a series of arrests ordered by his ministers.

Mr Kejriwal, 45, said he will not wait for the results of an enquiry, ordered by the Home Ministry, to determine if the police officers were following the law, as alleged by the police chief, or whether they abdicated responsibility. (Chief Minister turns chief protestor in unprecedented face-off: 10 developments)

"I want everyone to come and join us for this protest," said Mr Kejriwal, over-riding a tweet last night in which he urged the public not to join him in his demonstration because it would interfere with arrangements being made for Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.

His impromptu speech was delivered after he was stopped by the police from heading to the Home Ministry where he planned a sit-in protest against its chief, Sushil Kumar Shinde. ('Have come prepared for a 10-day dharna': Law Minister Somnath Bharti to NDTV)

"They say I am an anarchist. Yes, I am. Today, I will create anarchy for Mr Shinde," he said .
He has been requested by the police to move his demonstration to Jantar Mantar, the designated spot for public protests.

On Wednesday night, Delhi Law Minister, Somnath Bharti conducted a self-described midnight "raid" in a South Delhi neighbourhood, and asked the police to arrest Ugandan citizens and raid a house where he alleged they were trafficking drugs and sex. The police refused, saying they had no warrant.

Four women have since filed a police case alleging that they were beaten up by a mob, and forced to submit urine samples. They tested negative for drugs.

In a separate case, another minister Rakhi Birla has accused the police of ignoring her orders to punish a family responsible for a dowry-related death

hi
congress started thinking abt withdrawing support...may be delhi election with general election very soon....

recent approval rating of AAP in delhi is 48percent and in haryana 27 percent.according to cnn-ibn poll.women in delhi wanting security and parents worried about drug scene in delhi will stand by aap. lack of ideological baggage is their biggest asset.Another strength is being street smart to achieve their goals-delhi people will welcome joining him again. what congress and bjp could not do-namely bringing police to some accountabiity is good.similar thing should happen to Delhi development authority.A lokpal with citizen charter would be welcome. delhi govt will run. There are civil service officers to take care of it. Delhi govt has a limited role. it is a glorified municipality with no powers.AK may not do much damage running it.

It is alleged that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP member Somnath Bharti exceeded the poll expense limit of Rs. 14 lakh.

Two BJP leaders on Tuesday filed separate petitions in the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the election of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleague Somnath Bharti on the ground that they both allegedly exceeded the poll expense limit of Rs. 14 lakh.

Former Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta and former Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, who lost to Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Bharti respectively in the recent Assembly polls, have filed the pleas under a provision of the Representation of People Act relating to disqualification of a lawmaker.

The petitions, which are likely to come up for hearing during the week, alleged that both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders exceeded the poll expense limit of Rs. 14 lakh fixed by the Election Commission.

They contended that Mr. Kejriwal and Mr. Bharti told the poll panel that they incurred Rs. 4 and 5 lakh respectively in their election campaign.

“If we add these expenses with the cost incurred in holding musical concert at Jantar Mantar on November 23, 2013, it is proved that they spent more than Rs. 14 lakh each in their election campaign,” Ms. Mehra told reporters outside the Delhi High Court premises.

Reacting to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal led protest demanding suspension of Delhi Police personnel, who have been accused by his administration of dereliction of duty, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel on Tuesday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was behaving like Maoists.

"The way AAP and Arvind Kejriwal are holding this protest, is not going to be beneficial for the public. The steps they are taking are of Maoist approach," said Goel.

BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday termed as "theatre of the absurd" Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's protest and said by calling it off Republic Day has been saved though the Republic has been "weakened".

Attacking the Aam Aadmi Party for the protest which was an "absurdly disproportionate" action to the demand, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said the new outfit lost not only its reputation but also its image as a responsible government and the sympathy among its voters.

"This was a theatre of the absurd. AAP had threatened to disturb the Republic Day because of an SHO not being suspended. It is an absurdly disproportionate action to the demand... At the end of the day, we saved the Republic Day and we weakened the Republic," he told PTI.

He said at the end of the day, AAP is a "big loser" and "lost its reputation".

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has said that his government is open to learning, as well as criticism from media. He should therefore be open to the idea that it's a chief minister's job to govern with whatever tools he has at his disposal (and they are plenty). A government resorting to dharna and placing the national capital under siege is a copout. If AAP's unprecedented moves in this direction are designed to tempt Congress to pull the plug from their government and thereby prop up popular support for itself, it's a pointless political gimmick.

AAP's core support base — on which it is relying not only to sustain itself but also to scale up rapidly across the country — is the educated middle class and youth. The middle class is unlikely to fall for such gimmickry. It will find mainstream parties' taunt, that Kejriwal plays opposition leader even as CM because AAP lacks the capacity to govern, more credible. Youth value jobs and personal freedom, they will bolt when they find AAP policies militate against both. Congress could well refuse Kejriwal's temptation and string AAP along, till the latter makes a complete mess of governance.
Aam admi copout - The Times of India

AAP first hit out at established institutions like the jal board and Discoms as it was overcharging the weaker sections of society.now the police who never cared for security of women and living off the poor sections is at the receiving end.AAP talks the street idiom not liked by middle and educated classes. when AAP says republic day has no meaning for the poor why is everyone agitated. Lohia who lampooned the institutions and tried caste mobilisation and redistribution of wealth in nehru days was similarly vilified . JP did nothing better . He mobilised the youth and lower caste for what he called total revolution to destroy the existing order.left in bengal put the party first and the WB govt destroyed all the institutitions in 30years. Mamatha also took to the streets to destroy them.AAP is not an insitution builder. AK has made his point . Police are now on notice.Giving power to AAp to form govt will not stop AAP.they are unlikely to give good governance to satisfy middle class or the elite..congress aping AAP reduced power tariff by 20percent in maharashtra. BJP is shouting the loudest against AAP since Modi faces a threat from AAP. we are looking forward to a citizen charter for performance from civic institutions.hope it will materialise

Why is AAP adamant on not taking action against Bharti...The Minister cannot lead a mob for retributive justice..He has now been identified by the woman..

AAP rules out action against Somnath Bharti - India - DNA
AAP action against women from african nations in the name of protection of indian women can turn off educated middle class.I genuinely hope womens groups and law will take care of the law minister. AAP recommends paternal protectionism of indian women by local mohalla men. This is totally unacceptable. It curbs the freedom of women. mohallas will put curbs on their mobility, whom they will meet and date and introduce dress codes .besides minorities in the mohallas, disadvantaged caste groups,LGBTs will face problems in the city because of empowerment of mohalla sabhas. They may even have a khap panchayat to eliminating some with mohalla justice

No reservation here! no one but the elite!

It does not matter what he and his colleagues are
aap hs reduced water and power tariff . some poor have benifitted
his initiatives against police has put them in spotlight. many policemen have been suspended
you know illegal construction in resettlement and DDA colonies is at a standstill as police have stopped patronising builders
water mafia has stopped supplying water where it is needed as screws have been tightened and in some colonies water supply is hurt as they are fighting back
Discom BSES has been put on notice with threat of audit and termination if they do not clear dues and do not maintain proper power supply
Govt hospitals top guns have been transferred and hospitals have been directed not to fleece the poor ,treat accident, rape other victims and give generic prescriptions and return dead bodies promptly without clearance of dues if any. poor are happy.
AAP has begun gender sensitisation programs for their cadre to stop their crude behaviour with ladies.
they have put a gag on comments to the media by aap members
auto drivers have been taken out of scope of delhi police for violations . instead road transport authorities have been made responsible to prevent police harassment
1 lakh is given to all govt school principals to spend on essentials for these schools. they have increased working hours for teachers in govt schools to 45 hrs a week . minister has raided govt school to check on teacher absenteeism and quality of midday meal and ordered punitive action.
AAP has cracked down on prostitution in residential colonies
all this a change which can be welcomed
in the event of re election ,AAP will get a landslide. his pro poor policies will pay aap rich dividends

Marwadi's like the leeches will fleece you & suck your blood..Poor Delhi guys!
pay a visit to delhi . ask the delhi poor. you will be surprised with the response. AAP intentions cannot be faulted . they will learn governance. for their achievents read my previous post

Political AAP Always Hid behind Apolitical IAC?

There was a report that kejriwal of IAC first approached narayanamoorty and then sri sri ravishankar for leading the movement. He went to anna hazare to lead the agitation when the two declined. Gurumurthy met kejriwal a few days before anna's fast in aug 2011. I assume ravishankar asked gurumurthy to meet kejriwal. These are from a recent (3rd feb 2014) article by gurumurthy.

"The meeting took place at the Indian Express guest house at Sarvoday Enclave in New Delhi.

"Kejriwalresponded that he had the support of the entire media. I told him that themedia as a whole could not be trusted to support an agitation for long and theywould soon get divided. So relying on the disparate media might provedangerous.
He then named amedia group which had promised total support to him.(Later I checked up withthem. They confirmed they were sympathetic to IAC but wouldn’t back them likeRamnath Goenka who would put his last penny in a fight.)

"
Kejriwal always took Anna’s name and said Anna would not agree for this or that. Next, he said that he could never cross Anna’s apolitical line. When I told him finally that he might himself have to form a political party to fight the issue politically, he asserted that he had no political ambition at all. I wished him well and the meeting ended.

"Kejriwal’sflip-flop-flip on almost every issue of principle made me feel that he is notwhat he professes to be. He said he would not contest elections, but he did. Hesaid he wouldn’t ally with the Congress, but he did. He said the AAP wouldn’tform the government, but it did. He said he wouldn’t hold any office, but hedoes. He said he would act against Sheila Dixit within seven days of assumingpower, but did not. These flip-flop-flip made me recall what all he had toldme. Several questions arose in my mind over his intent ab initio. Was hehonestly pursuing apolitical agenda in IAC? Or was IAC just theatrical toco-opt the media and many respectable persons which gave unprecedentedpublicity and image to IAC and himself?

"Unless he comes clean, he cannot and should not be trusted. What is the guarantee that the man who fooled his mentor Anna will not fool the people?

sarang ji
today he has acted on shungloo committee and shiela dixit govt on CWG scam and 1984 riots setting up a SIT
I am the least bothered about AK and his brand of street politics . Even if he does a flip-flop on most issues ,he keeps opposition on their toes and keeps them guessing. His approach of spit and scoot and nimbleness will pay him rich dividends . now established parties will have to work very hard to get peoples mandate. they have to cleanse their act a,set up clean candidates without criminal records ,reduce election expenditure ,become more accountable to people. they have to fill social commitments and work for the poor. Their actions would come under the scanner Their pro business stance and cosying upto business houses and collecting money from them for favours such as licenses and clearances would get questioned . political system will get a little cleaned .some big corporates and politicians will go to jail. poor people see some hope in AK .He might be a short term phenomenon. . but good for india

I am only against their approach...Shoot and then scoot...Not looking professional...Look at how Manish Sisodia, their Minister has been misusing NGO funds..Earlier another minister Bharti was also under cloud over the mid night raid..They are not looking professional. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...-NGOs-foreign-funds/articleshow/29832432.cmsl.

professionalism can hardly be associated with AK and AAP
see vgane ji ,how they have changed the political discourse. anti corruption and anti criminality as the only sale points they have forced all political parties to choose candidates with clean image. Congress has set a committee of ex election commissioners to screen their candidates. if they can clean up the political system and bring in accountability in civic agencies, police and do something worthwhile for the poor, I will be satisfied. I have no water problem now as it is constituency of manish shisodia. I get water twice a day and do not need to use the pump. I got elec bill yesterday with a discount of rs. 600 as 50percent elec subsidy for jan 2014. I hope to collect 300 rs water subsidy . Of course whether I am the right person to get this subsidy is open to question. AK has delivered what he has promised.

If elections are held tomorrow AAP likely to win 39 seats out of 70 seats from 27 seats currently..A good jump...As you have surmised the people have started reaping the benefits of AAP's policies which is directly impacting the bottom line of households positively!

A fair assessment of AAP by Dilip Padagaonkar today in Times...Please read the blog below

Quote:

Today many high-profile followers of AAP are a dispirited lot. By that same token, its critics can barely hide their glee. But none of this is going to make AAP obsolete since no other party embodies in such fulsome measure the contrary impulses of the Indian voter: angst against the 'system' but also fear of destabilising it; yearning for radical change but also reluctance to face its consequences. AAP is thus a microcosm of these contradictions. Its pirouettes to reconcile or circumvent them will be the most exciting item in the dance drama of our democracy.
