...P.S: Only a few Sing. Chennai members like to have get together at my sweet home!
If there is a silver lining to visiting Chennai it would be to visit with nice folks like you and your ennavar Shri Ram. But I am not sure whether I will be welcome in too many houses because of the heathen that I am :)!!!!

best....

I wonder whether you remember my invitation to visit us at my son's sweet home at Boston, when you drove that side.

You escaped! As long as 'spirited' drinks are not asked for, you are most welcome to our sweet home in Sing. Chennai!
You are very kind dear Mrs. RR. Please ignore my last post, it was before I saw this one. I think I can manage a dry evening so long as it is compensated by some spirited (pun intended or not I am not sure) discussion, which I love just as much as my spirits.

:) :)

Kunjuppu Sir,

No offence meant. But it is getting increasingly difficult to live in Chennai. Population has swelled dramatically. It takes 2 hours to cross a stretch in Mount Road if you travel in peak hours.

Many models of cars and bikes now run on diesel. Diesel as you know does not burn well, hence pollution level is unbelievable. If you are not sitting inside a car with all windows up and AC turned on, you cannot breathe. If you do not turn up the windows, you may get asthma. Once you reach home and sneeze, black soot comes out with mucus. That is how bad it is now. The humidity compounds the uneasy feeling.

As for food, ate at posh hotels still had stomach upset. I decided the only place safe is saravana bhavan (carried water with me though). Yes i love mangoes, but they are good anywhere. I went around kapali temple, that's one place still the same (thankfully). From mylapore went to pothys for shopping, and ended up with respiratory distress (some sorta allergy and infection, not able to take the pollution).

It was terrible when mom insisted I do breathing exercises to improve my lungs. The air just did not feel good. When rains began it was a huge relief. But then mosquito prob started in some areas. No sir, life in Chennai does not feel romantic anymore. One has to safeguard themselves every moment.

Due to metro rail construction, laying of pipes, various infrastructure works, everywhere roads are dug up, most roads are one-way. The sight of garbage all alongside streets was repulsive. I told my mother we indians hate dirt so much we won't trash it properly, won't find a way to manage it, but choose to live with it alongside.

The biggest plus point in Chennai, i felt, are excellent hospitals. I thot diagnostic facilities, medical doctors, the whole healthcare management system there is the best in the world.

All in all though, the best part of Chennai was my home.

Regards.

I consume 4-5 big bottles of water every day and if by chance the water happens to be of shady quality...
Was told people refill mineral water bottles with any water and sell like new. So we purchased mineral water cans from supermarkets or chemists, boiled the water, cooled, refilled it back into the can before using.

Mr tbs, You have precisely explained the life in Madras with all good & bad, why should at all we despise our birth place , just because we are lucky to go to U.S like hundreds of youths/ women fly to US because of Higher studies & immediate Job esp. for T.N Brahmins who are always sincere/ honest & what not ? you fall into this category . Even parents because of their unstinted efforts & sacrifice, we all lead very comfortable life with Luxurious Flats bought by children visit places all over & have achieved things which could not have been dreamed just 15/20 years back . I would say {= money has become cheap now-a days. Wish that love & affection in the families of Brahmins grow & more interaction of persons like you takes place in U.S.

Lovingly,
A.Srinivasan ( rishikesan for this Forum )

From Sing Chennai - back to the topic.

I have seen a few sons who are very considerate to their parents. If the baby is born in winter, they take care of the baby

for a few months and then ask for help from the parents. Some parents can not withstand the freezing temperature in winter,

in some parts of the U S of A! :smog:
