MEMBERS MAY BE AWARE ABOUT 'MADRAS MISCELLANY' COLUMN. IT IS

WRITTEN BY S MUTHIAH AND PUBLISHED IN THE HINDU EVERY MONDAY.

DURING JULY, THERE WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT P N APPUSAMY, SCIENCE

WRITER. IN TODAY'S EDITION, HE MENTIONED ABOUT HIS UNCLE

P A MADHAVAIAH AND HIS SON M ANANTHANARAYANAN, WHO BECAME

THE CHIEF JUSTICE OF MADRAS HIGH COURT.

IN THE EARLY 70s, I READ AN ARTICLE (PROBABLY WRITTEN BY

P N APPUSAMY) WHICH WAS PUBLISHED IN 'KALAIMAGAL' AND

K V JAGANATHAN WAS THE EDITOR AT THAT TIME.

P N APPUSAMY MENTIONED ABOUT P A MADHAVAIAH AND M ANANTHA-

NARAYANAN. I REMEMBERED TO HAVE READ THAT THEY BELONG TO

VADADESA VADAMA SECT.

CAN ANYONE ENLIGHTEN ME ON THIS PLEASE.

THANKS

S CHANDRASEKARAN

I have a friend from Kuttraalam (Thanjavur) who calls himself as "vadadesaththu vadama". I doubt any more information would be available. He is tall, very fair, etc. Maybe there was a genetic mixup.

I did not get this post.
Why genetic Mixup?
I remember my mother telling me that we belong to this community called Vadadesa Vadama.
Vadamas are further sub-divided into five categories

Vadadesa Vadama (Vadamas of the northern country)
Choladesa Vadama(Vadamas of the Chola country)
Sabhaiyar(member of the conference (Sabha))
Injee and
Thummagunta Dravida.

The Srivaishnava hold that their guru Ramanujacharya, born in the first quarter of the 11th century, was a Vadama by birth.
The Vaishnavite spiritual leader Ramanuja is generally believed to have been born a Vadama. Under his tutelage, numerous Vadamas adopted Vaishnavism and are believed to have given rise to the Vadakalai Iyengar community.
