Is the phrase Pipe dream a monopoly of professors???
WHY NOT a pot dream for a change??? :decision:
A 'pot' can also make a person dizzy and dreamy!!! :dizzy:

Pipe dream = A vain dream that will never happen, given the harsh reality of life and the world.
The phrase "Pipe dream" originated from the fantasy dreams experienced by smokers of opium pipes.
If you prefer to substitute pot for pipe, jolly good, as the connoisseurs will say.
By the way, I am not aware that professors monopolised the use of the phrase.

There was a very much respected professor whose name had the same initial as yours.
His favorite term was 'pipe dream'!!! I am sure he reads all the posts as before
though he has stopped contributing to the forum recently. :peep:

The feet account for one quarter of all the human body’s bones.
WE may not give our feet much thought but they are home to
more bones than any other part of your body.
How many? Of the two hundred and six bones in the body,
the feet contain 25% of the bones or 52 bones.

Dear Bala Anna,
I request you NOT to convert my SERIOUS threads into cookery classes!!!
In fact I have been thinking of suggesting you to open three NEW threads
one for the cookery class, one devoted to Balambikai and the third to snakes and other animals.
Hope you will kindly oblige.

# 113. Believe it or not.

About 32 million bacteria call every inch of your skin home.

Germo-phobes do not need to worry.

Majority of these are entirely harmless.

Some are even helpful in maintaining a healthy body.

# 114. Believe it or not.

Humans she and regrow outer skin cells about every 27 days.

Skin protects our delicate internal organs from the elements.

It dries and flakes off completely about once a month

so that it can maintain its strength.

cookery??? :decision: mockery???
Attention Bala sir!
Please STOP posting in my threads.
I did not want to be rude.
But things are going too far!
Pink sheep? my foot!

How bad it would be for a handicapped person when he looks at others.

Dear sir,

Not every handicap person looks at their handicap as a draw back.
I had once seen a movie based on a true story about a hearing and speech impaired woman who had married a normal man.

They had a normal daughter but when the girl was 2 years old she started losing her hearing and the doctor suggested a cochlear implant to prevent her from becoming deaf and mute.

To my surprise in the movie the mother of the child did not agree with the doctor.
The father of the child wanted the child to have the cochlear implants so that she can lead a normal life.

The mother fought the case in court and won the case and did not want the cochlear implant for the child.

Her reasons were:

1)By putting the cochlear implants for the child that means one acknowledges that being deaf and mute is a defect and abnormal.
She felt deaf and mute people are not abnormal but just different.

2)She also felt that means her husband wished for the child to be normal which would translate to mean that he felt his wife was abnormal.

If I had not mistaken she also filed for a divorce but the husband did not agree for the divorce.

I really don't know how a mother can think like this.

Which mother would not want the best for her child?

I had a husband and wife patient who were deformed with no lower limbs and they used to walk using their hands.

When the wife got pregnant she used to come for ultrasounds to ask me to see if the baby was also normal and had legs.

They had a normal first born daughter.
The second born (a son) had very severe bow leg deformity but the orthopedic doctor recommended wearing moulding cast for both legs right from infancy till 1 year and the child's legs became normal.

The deformed couple really made sure their son was able to walk normally and used to travel in their motorbike(for disabled people) whether it was rain or shine to take their son to the ortho doc.

They told me that they really prayed hard for their kids to be normal and not suffer like them.

Is the rule applicable to me or to everyone. Just for information, because in Navarathna Ring
we find cookery dishes, etc. are they within the jurisdiction of that thread!! We all talk of
ego to get vanished as a faster pace, etc. But it remains only in letter and not spirits. Democaracy
should not diminish, as we notice a number of information posted in various threads not
directly related to that thread. There are instances to quote, but I do not want.

you post grotesque images of human ailment in my surrealism thread.

You post surrealism PICTURES in my thread dealing with

the wonderful features of a human body

You post reptiles, snakes and scary images EVERYWHERE!!! :scared:

Navaratna thread is NOT my thread.

You are free to conduct your COOKERY classes there until

the thread starter OBJECTS to it...in case he still visits it occasionally!

BUT I have a right to regulate my threads and keep them the way I want them to be.

They are built by ~ two years of my thinking process and my energy.

I already wrote once. I feel that my threads are my extended home. I LIVE IN THEM.

I will NOT tolerate anyone messing up with my extended homes!

And I MEAN BUSINESS!

I too know about democracy, rights and liberties.

Open your OWN thread AND BECOME REALLY 100% DEMOCRATIC.

It will give you a chance to find out how many people value your contributions!

If this does not stop you from posting unsightly and grotesque images in my threads in the future,

I will have to seek the help of the moderator to help my cause. I WILL DO IT! :high5:

It is because I am democratic that I am requesting you directly.

THIS is not an ego struggle as you to try to project it.

It is a fight for justice since my aesthetic sense finds your images repulsive and really disturbing! :yuck:

Sowbagyavathy Renuka, Greetings.

Not every handicap person looks at their handicap as a draw back.

In Vellore, close to my work was a factory run by disabled persons. Quite a large factory too. They had 3 shifts running. I have seen people with all sorts of deformities travelling in different modes transport converging outside that factory with full of laughter and jokes. They believed in themselves; they hd faith in themselves. ( that factory was Swidish Red Cross manufacturing, Vellore. They manufactured parts for two wheelers. In Katpadi, nearby, there was a training centre for them too). One gentleman lived across in our street. He was blind. Total kaput. He used to walk on his own to attend shift work ( since I was a tradie, he always felt a closeness with me). He got married while in our street, had a very normal son and had him going to school when I left that village. Leave alone as a hanicap, he did not even mention about his challenge ever. He would just greet and start a conversation as if he could see me.. only he heard me and started the conversation. Everyone was as nice to him as possible by calling out and striking a conversation. He came from Trichy and lived in our village. There were a few like him working in that above said factory.

Cheers!

# 115. Believe it or not!

Three hundred million cells die in the human body every minute.

While that sounds like a lot, it’s really just a small fraction of the cells that are in the human body.

The total number of cells in the body at 10-50 trillion and a trillion is 1,000,000,000,000.

So we can afford to lose a few hundred million without any hitch.

Some of the best music was composed by Beethovad. He was deaf.
Some of the beast poetry about nature was written by Milton. He was blind.
One of the greatest leaders was Franklin Roosevelt. He served from a wheel-chair.
TURN SCARS INTO STARS........

John Milton.

John Milton (9th December 1608-8th November 1674) was an English poet, an author and a civil servant for the Common Wealth of England. He is best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost which earned him the praise as the greatest English author and poet!

This Magnum Opus of blank verses was composed by Milton-after he had become blind! He composed this great piece of work through dictations to a series of aids in his employment.

This is a feat by any standard, considering his blindness! He would compose the verses in his head all night and dictate them to his aides the next morning. He became blind in 1652 but went on writing despite his problems.

His prose as well as poetry reflect his deep convictions. He wrote on the contemporary issues as well. He could write in Latin and Italian as well as he did in English! He had earned an international reputation during his life time-to become a living legend!

Once Paradise Lost was published, Milton was recognized as a great epic poet. His influence continued to linger on the poets living in the 18th and 19th centuries!

He is considered to be greater than even William Shakespeare! All this was achieved despite his loss of eye sight and dependency on the others around him!

Beethoven.

Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer and pianist. He is considered to be the most influential composers of all time!

Beethoven’s hearing began to deteriorate when he was at the pinnacle of his success. Yet he continued to compose, perform and conduct concerts even after he became totally deaf!

Beethoven was baptized on 17 December 1770, in Bonn. His father was his first music teacher. He also learned from the other local teachers. His talent was promising even when he was a mere child. He gave his first public performance in March 1778, when he was a mere child seven years old!

When his mother died in 1787, he had to take care of his two younger brothers and alcoholic father. However he continued to write several compositions with growing maturity and style. His works were not published then!

In his early twenties he moved to Vienna, settled there and studied to become a virtuoso pianist. He did not set out to establish himself as a composer right away. He studied under Haydn and also took violin lessons from another master.

Beethoven’s first performance in Vienna was in March 1795. It was then that he published his first composition “Piano trios Opus”.

His compositions of First six string quartets, The First and The Second Symphonies made him the most famous composer after Haydn and Mozart.

Around 1796, he began to lose his hearing. He suffered from “Tinnitus”, a ringing sound in his ears. He could no longer appreciate music nor can he take part in conversations. The cause of his deafness was not known.

By the time he wrote his Ninth Symphony, he was completely deaf! However he continued to compose music and play piano!

His determination to succeed was so great that it overcame all the physical obstacles. Indomitable Spirit always overcomes physical challenges and succeeds!

F. D. Roosevelt.

Franklin.D.Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the 32nd President on U.S.A.

He was elected four times for this prestigious office continuously and served from 1933 to 1945. He is the only President who has served for more than two terms of office.

While he was on vacation at Campobello Island in 1921, he contacted an illness which left him completely paralyzed from waist down. He could never accept the fact that he was paralyzed for life!

He sought every possible cure ranging from electric current to ultraviolet rays; from massages to mineral baths-anything that could cure his paralysis, make his atrophied legs stronger and revitalize his weakened muscles!

He had to convince the public that he was getting better-if he wanted to run for a public office. Fitting his legs and hip with iron braces, he taught himself to walk short distances, with the help of a cane.

In private and when alone by himself, he would use a wheel chair, after making sure that no one could see him in it. In Public he would stand upright supported on one side by one of his sons or aides. A special car designed with hand controls gave him greater mobility.

He led the U.S.A efficiently at the height of its economic crisis and at the depths of The Great Depression. His combination of Optimism and Activism revived the National Spirit.

Working closely with Winston Churchill and Stalin in leading the Allies against Germany and Japan, he died just before the Allied emerged victorious in the World War II!
