Finding A Match For A Tamil Brahmin

Status
Not open for further replies.
This issue is exercising the minds of many tamil brahmins all over india and abroad.

A simple issue of finding a match has made lives of many complicated

There has been a demographic shift with number of eligible girls reducing radically as against boys.

Some feel education and girls becoming economic entities with decent jobs has made the process of finding

mates difficult.

Added to this increasing mobilty and spread of eligible boys and girls to all parts of the country and a few

countries abroad mostly US and europe has made the job of finding matches more difficult.

exposure to higher education and MNC jobs for both boys and girls has changed the preferances of type of mates.

a class with high incomes and higher aspirations has come up expecting more from mates. both boys and

girls want a marriage with equitable relationship .

the old traditional lifestyle after marriage with parents [boys] staying with son and DIL are not increasingly

finding favour with most girls.

the old criterion for selection of mates such as horoscopes, subcaste family status etc do not seem to be counting for much

alll that matters is income and edu qual of both boys and girls.

under these circumstances , is it worth considering anything else to find a match

most do not know how to settle a match.

parents[mother and father separately] and boy/girl look for different things when they look for a match.

most are not able to agree on what type of mate is best for a boy or girl

we finds hundreds of boys[in thirtees] and girls in late twenties looking for that elusive right person.

.the process of selection often after a lot of effort ends up in broken engagements and broken marriages often

it is a very serious issue affecting every family.

what do you think?

My experiance in fixing varans for my 2 sons was a mixed bag with regard to Nakshthram! Both the wedding were arranged Parents!

My elder Son IIT Madras and was in the last semester of MBA in Columbia University I zeroed on 1 Varan which I thought was suitable to him - BITS Pilani and P.hd from IIM (CAL) working in Bangalore I developed an auto immune skin disorder - PEMPHIGUS for which no established treatment yet except steroids and I was on 60Mg of Wysolone (12 Tabs a day) I Had to fight the disease mentally and - Started my Tanjore Painting then for mental diversion The Girl's star was Ailyum - star not good for M In Law and I was on Heavy steroids for that! Inspite of being warned I proceeded to finalize this alliance. Luckily My Pemphigus went into remission and I could withdraw my steroids in about 2 years after this wedding! and it has not recurred sofar.

My younger son CA ICWA was working In City Corp Salem with a salary of 9 Lacs PA which was huge by any standard at Salem them! His Star Moolam There was not much response - either from Girls parent of SAHM conservative type - were not for Moolam or from progressive carrier girls - were not interested in Salem ! Nearly after 3 years hunt I found a girl for him with similar Qualification She is a senior Manger In HDFC bank and he is Asst V.P In Yes bank Both are working in Madras! This 3 years hunt was a pain!

Oh wow! Janaki Ji! Both your sons (and their spouses) are so highly qualified! Please tell me what prarthana you did for them!

You have faced the issue of marriages being delayed due to star-moolam and place -salem. you have been broad minded to accept ayilyum as star iof daughter in law.

it is my contention that stars and horoscopes do more damage than aid the cause of early marriage.
I absolutely refuse to consider stars ior horoscopes for fixing a match . I am not worse off for that.

The place of work is more important .Girls do not like to go to small towns. they prefer metros or abroad.

many girls are forced to give up jobs to be in same city as mate after marriage which they regret later

Another factor which could greatly enhance responses in matrimonial sites is caste. if tamil brahmins could say any

brahmin is good enough their responses could easily triple or more, if one is more broad minded to say caste no bar.

the profile will be swamped with replies. I am not joking.

I happened to write caste no bar in a profile of a tamil brahmin girl I floated in a matrimonial site, the profile got a mind boggling

140 replies in 2 days. about half of them were NBs.my phone got flooded with sms . so I suppose caste is a major factor

Another interesting phenomenon. all prospective boys /girls looking for mates like to talk on phone or better still on

skype if they are in different cities to assess their suitability. some like to do it more than once before meeting each

other face to face. once they feel comfortable, they opt to meet for a girl seeing ceremony with parents where

they prefer not to talk much and only give their consent or make them acceptable to parents.girls also do not mind

meeting outside boys duly escorted by parents to a common place - coffee day-a lot can happen over coffee[?], or

temple.
parents normally accede to wishes of children and finalise after they take consent of children

My experiance Regarding - Elder son He had come to Bangalore for a project for his MBA for a month. I was also there in Banglore where my father was in Death bed and I was attending on him But the Girl had gone to US and was back in Banglore just one day before my son was to leave for US I asked him to meet her and he took off on a BIke. He told me that he has explained this to the Girl and his focus is on carrier and no marriage immediately and I hope she has understood. I asked what should I tell the Girls father if he asks me . She will manage and her father will not contat you!

Nothing happened My father died peacefully and my Pemphigus was troubling me! after one year on New year eve I got a call from US and he informed me they have decided to Marry and you know the Girl She is here with me you can talk to her! This the same girl suggested by me one year back and I talked to her and asked her to inform her parents as well and the next morning they contacted and Nitchyadhartham was fixed in my House. They asked me you have not seen the girl yet. It is fine that the they have taken a mature decision ! I met her when she came back after 2 weeks and stayed with me overnight in Madurai We missed the convention of Ponnu Parkal with Sojji and Bujee!

Younger son story in another episode!

It is refreshing to get your post regarding match making of your children.

I was thirsting to find a person of your mindset in this forum.

keep up your post.

It will be an inspiration to some members in this forum to emulate and follow in your footsteps to find matches for

their children

my both the children got married. in the case my daughter, a horoscope which I rejected six months back got okeyed (I dont know why) and the marriage went through. there were plenty of problems but we sailed through. now they r abroad and gtg on. in case of my son, who went abroad, number of his friends got married outside their 'limits'(I dont want to name anything else). I panicked and arranged his marriage. my DIL is of ayilyam; so far there is no problem. What I want to say is that in both the cases I had set-up some guidelines for their marriage, but in both the cases the guidelines were flopped with my full knowledge. I couldnt stop. this is called 'vidi'. I am not saying I regret but certainly to some extend I could not maintain the guidelines - srinivasan

the havocs caused by stars, horoscopes and astrologers are immense.

it is wise to throw the horoscopes into dustbin and finalise a marriage.

it should be left to children to decide what they want.

parents should maintain a low profile and be facilitators.

we can learn from JJ ji

Dear Krish Sir,

Learn from J J Ji??

But you appear to be the Guru in finding matches for tambrams, with ultra modern ideas! :)

Just before I started writing this post I saw an interview with Induja Pillai on CNN IBN. See that in the link you can see the difference - between young girls's perceptions & her parents about marriage!

Bengaluru: Matrimonial profile of girl claiming not to be a marriage material goes viral - IBNLive

Arranged to love - The Hindu

Almost similar situation I faced while fixing an alliance for my second son

These are my real life experiances shared with no intention to ispire people ! One day I received a call from Thiruvanmayur Madras! waking me up from my after- lunch siesta! He is a retired MD of Nationalized bank and he was interested to fix an alliance for his only child & daughter B.Arch from Guidy Engineering Collage - am there in Madurai tomorrow on official assingment Can I meet you in the evening regarding this matter after I finished my work ?

OK we will pick you up Can have dinner with us and will be dropped back

Fine suits me - Meeting finalised!

Next day at 8.00PM - Over the dining table

How did get to know about us?

Through my Shadagar who has wound up his show as an engineer after 30 years in Madurai He is known to you He has given me full information about your family I am intersted and to proceed further to clinch the alliance ( My younger son)

Do think they are compatable educationally He is in Banking She is in Designing? Did you see his Jathagam His star is Moolam!

I do not belive in Horescope & astrloger ! Rouges and cheats But If you insist I will get you my Daugters Jathagam You can Match that with your son's cosulting an astrologer!

You are a Periyar in Agraharam!

I am frustated I had taken more than 100 Jathagams If my Josiyer OKs it The boy side fellows veto it! Finally I finalised one varan on the expert opinion not 1 but of 2 Josiers - Like doctors 2 josiers never agree you see and fixed a date for wedding arranged every thing Even paid advance to Marriage hall But the wedding never happened Last minute it has to be cancelled! Loss of peace of mind and money The josiers have no explanation!!

He was so impressed about us and imagined that this alliance is finalised . He took a photo of my son I will discuss with my people (Wife Daughter His spincter sister in Law & widowed 85+ chithi living with him) and send my daughter photo and Jathagam to morrow by Speed Post as soon as reach Madras

Nothing of that sort happened I waited for 2 day and sent an e mail No rspose I called him on the phone His wife picked up and informed that he is out of station - I got an email after this call to his wife - I am sorry You should excuse me for not keeping up my word I did not know how to convice you My widowed Chitthi is against Moolam and I have to respect that old ladies sentiments you see! I am sorry Excuse me Hope this willt convince you!

I know the real reson may not be Moolam but some thing else May be the girl was not intersted May she was nevre consulted or discussed about her expectation in prospective mate befor he came to Madurai and not after his visit to Madurai which put him in this situation

I phoned him up to return the photo he has taken which he did promptly!

Then why this thread, Krish sir?? :noidea:
Thru this thread, I am learning about the mindset and experience of tamil brahmins

after finalising one marriage in january for my grand nephew,in four to six weeks, trying to fix one for grand niece in same

timeframe. my talents of match making are being put to test. I hope to finalise one more in same timeframe.

so you can add your ideas on how to finalise a match. I will put it to test.

only learning from you I gave the girls side four months to organise the wedding for my grand nephew. I wanted in

eight weeks. See I learn from experienced people like you

Moral of the story -do not take sons/daughters liking and preferences for granted and stick your neck out.

you might get left in the lurch after making commitment to a prospective alliance and have to lie to escape with

reasonable honour,lol

I have never heard of Moolam boy getting rejected!

The saying is: 'aaN moolam arasALum; peN moolam nirmoolam!' (remember - ours is a male chauvinistic society ;))

P.S: One elderly person told me that 'peN moolam nirmalam' changed to 'peN moolam nirmoolam'!

i loved the bit about the spincter sister in law :) :) :)

A sphincter is a cylindrical muscle that normally maintains constriction of a natural body passage or orifice and which relaxes as required by normal physiological functioning. Sphincters are found in many animals; there are over 60 types in the human body, some microscopically small, in particular the millions of precapillary sphincters.[1] Sphincters relax at death, possibly releasing fluids

in this instance i really agree 100% with janaki re the description and the insinuation that goes along with it. bravo!!

. ...You are a Periyar in Agraharam!

and the name of the unmentionable leader is mentioned in that very post...blasphemy here !! :) :) :)

one of my close relations has two daughters only. both of them married to their choice. parents tried to stop but in vain. Both the SILs are north indians (punjabys). I tell y both the SILs and also sambandies came out to be so good I wonder if our own TBs will be so obliging. Recently, girls' father had to be hospitalised. SILs and sambandies went out of the way to extend help in many ways. I am pointing this not to undo our TB system but I wish to say sometime 'otherwise' tieup works well. - srinivasan

moolam and ayilyam r bullshit. if 'vidi' is there, nothing can be stopped. y r right, moolan cudnt the reason. the girl must have something else. God bless the TBs parents. what more r there to face, nobody knows. when I think of Paramacharya I wish to hold on to my brahmnism. I remember even HE (the Paramacharya) suggested not to insist on subcast in brahmin, even Rao brahmin can also be conmsidered. - srinvasan

Though Paramacharya was a very highly learned saint, for matters relating to marriage, it is only practical and pragmatic approach which will help in the long run.

If a Smartha girl marries a boy from a staunch Vaishnavite background, invariably the girl has to sacrifice her smartha background totally. Is it OK and acceptable?

What do you mean by 'even Rao brahmin can also be considered'? Madhwa Brahmins are part of Vaishnavite brahmin sect. They are dominating the sect in Karnataka and Maharashtra. The sect has produced some outstanding personalities. If Paramacharya made the above statement, it is rather strange that he did not know about Rao sect, despite the fact that he was a Kannada Smartha.

It is easier to bond with local people [forget the language and customs] than a TB couple of thousand kilometers

.away, in a span of fifty years in north , we have changed so much that our children simply do not relate to anything

south except cuisine dosa, idli which has invaded north.

ultimately all are human beings , with mix of good and not so good qualities.

brahminism does not make a earth shaking difference . we could do pretty well without it if necessary and would not

miss it much. well built bold punjabi boys are a big attraction for TB girls. [starting with hema malini]. and most

punjabi boys like these soft and feminine TB girls. they make good wives.lol

in fact syrian christians [they were originally brahmins] make excellent wives . they are pretty and adjust to ivaishnavite mindset

what makes you think iyer girl has to sacrifice her background marrying iyengar boys. except on marriage day [dress

etc] my iyer dIL did not have to sacrifice anything. Iam an iyengar by accident of birth. not my fault really .lol

Very much acceptable, Sir!

After all, they pray to Hindu Gods only and are grouped as brahmins. So be happy! :)

Similarly, when a vaishnavite girl marries a smartha boy, she follows only smartha customs!

It could be more than that You may become helpless and turn Philosophical!

This is a different story of a man from Chembur Bombay Again a banker CEO of Narbad bank. He was keen to fix an alliance for his daughter. He said he was a staunch devotee of Murugan & invoved in Chembur Murugan temple actively ! He was so transparent and open and said Let the Boy and Girl chat over phone this Sunday evening and we can proceed following the outcome of that! I will call you at 8.00 PM on Sunday and and hand over the phone to my daughter and you to your Son! I thought it was great idea and was waiting for a call which never came!!

He called on Monday moring and explained - When I told my daughter about the arranged chat she lost her mood and locked herself in her room sulking!! Came out at about 9.00PM Then she explained she is interested in a boy - her classmate a Maharastrian! I was not aware of it! Now I think It is my duty to inform you about this and proceed according her wish! I hope you will understand my situation! I liked his way of handling the situation with truth and sincerity and told him that it is all TIRUCHEMBUR Kandan seyal!! and to listem to the song I will be sending to him in Naatai Kuruji to calm is slightly agitated mind! reminding him "Marriages are made in Heaven."
