Dear Mam renu, If you prepare like that for carrot halwa then will it taste like a carrot halwa with date flavour?

Dear sir,

The trick is to make the halwa sound exotic.

Don't call it Halwa to start with.

I will tell people..it's a new dish..called "A date with carotene"

People will wonder what exotic dish it is!LOL

Sir..I am one of those crazy ones who does not really mind how food taste as long it is healthy for body I will gulp it down.

........... I don't think that 'fried lizard' was real. Possibly plastic toy. .......
I don't know, Sir! That thing was upside down and the very sight was scary! Five or six boys ate the rest of the chips

but of course NOT the fried lizard!

I will get the recipe.. One of the Social workers baked a cake today. She used only fruits for sweetening the cake. It was absolutely yummy! She is alsoa weight watching slim little girl. She will happily give the whole recipe. i shall post it for you. It contained apples, cherries and don't know what else. I was very sleepy, was leaving after handover. She dragged me to staff room & gave me this cake. Since I was taking off, I didn't ask her the details. ( once she baked a cake with chik-peas flour).

Cheers!

From Lizard to Snake! I have posted this, sometime back in this forum.

Dead Snake found in the Birthday Cake | Thfire.com - iNews

Dear RR ji,

When I was 12 years old..my Chinese classmate stayed near my house.
One day I went to her house and she was having dinner.
She was having dinner taking some soup.
I asked her what soup it was and she told me to open the pot and see.

When I opened the pot all I could see was some chunks of pale meat.
I asked her what it was and she told me it was Snake Soup!!

I asked her "you eat snake?"
she said "No..I am only taking the soup and not eating the snake's flesh but my parents and sister will eat the flesh later"

Ok next horror story:

The house behind us also was a Chinese house.
I saw them once put a puppy in a sack and hit it againts the wall till it could cry no more(puppy was dead)
Then they put it in a pot of hot boiling water..skinned it and cut it up and cooked it!!

Ok one more story..when I was just a few years old..my parents had 2 small doberman puppies.
One day my parents had to go somewhere and a Chinese friend who lived nearby(this was in some other town..not the same town as when I was 10 years) agreed to look after the dogs for a few days.

When my parents came back the friend said that both the puppies ran away from home.
But later we got to know from another person that he actually ate up those 2 puppies.

Ok next horror story.
One of my patient bought 2 retired race horses for him to ride in the farm.
He fell from his horse and fractured his arm.
After many months I asked him about his horses and he told me now he has only one horse.
I asked him what happened to the other horse?

To my horror he replied"We had a function at home and got the horse slaughtered and the guest and me ate horse meat"

Can you imagine????

Better to take water instead of sweetened drinks if we can not find Oral Rehydration Salts.
Too much sugar can disturb the osmolarity of the cell membranes and can actually worsen diarrhea.

Tender coconut water is almost isotonic to our body fluids and makes a good palatable choice as a fluid replacement.

Remember in diarrhea/vomiting we are losing fluids and electrolytes and replacement should be on those lines.

I think it contains potassium. Is it right ?

Greetings.

Kangaroo meat, crocodile meat and emu meats are available in Australia. Kangaroo & emu can be purchased from usual shopping centres.

In our office we have a vending machine through which we used to prepare coffee or tea. I drink coffee in our office and I drank coffee almost 5 to 6 days without noticing cocroaches (tiny). I did not have any problem. I feel small cocroaches will not harm our body and only bigsized cocroaches create all troubles.

Sir,
Recently, I read in a newspaper that cocroaches are essential nuisance to the
world. They eat nitrogen in the drainage/dust bin and purify the atmosphere.
How far this is true sir ?

Dear All,

Now only I read all the posts in this thread. Wonder whether I will be able to have my dinner without thinking the various food preparations of cat, puppu, horse and so on mentioned by Ms Renuka.

Most of these items are coming only out of habits and local custom. Inspite of a non-veg eater, I found it very difficult to survive for three days at Nanjing - where I had a beer one day with Banana as "Chakna"!!

Dear Renu,

Real horror events. I read your post just now and should be ready for lots of scary dreams tonight!!

My mom lived in Burma when she was young and used to tell similar stories about her Chinese neighbors!

The only good thing is that mom learnt stitching, tatting and knitting from an elderly lady living there. :high5:

One more incident! It was a grand galA wedding of one of my nieces, arranged at a newly built kalyANA mandapam at T' nagar,

Sing. Chennai. It was a two and half days wedding and we all assembled on the first day morning. Soon after lunch, many of us

had stomach upset and started vomiting too! No one knew what was wrong because sealed mineral water was served along with

the food. That night dinner was not relished by many of us, due to our sickness. On the second day, the tap water started stinking

and I reported the foul smell to the manager, requesting him to check the water tank. Yes! My guess was right! There were dead

mice in the tank and the water was causing all the trouble. This water was used to make the butter milk served during first day lunch!

Wonder how I could guess? Experience!! When we built our sweet home, the water pipe line was left with open ends and was

connected to to the motor only on the next day. The water from our well was pumped to the overhead tank and after a couple

of days, the water was very smelly. We found two dead mice in the tank! They might have been hiding inside the pipe line

before it was connected to the motor and were pushed into the overhead tank along with the well water.

Moral of the story: Never consume uncooked food / food which are NOT piping hot! Yucky water might be one of the ingredients!! :hungry:

That is still Ok..at least it were dead mice in the water tank.
Recently I can't clearly remember if it was Malaysia or Singapore..same situation as you mentioned but it was a dead HUMAN BEING in the water tank!

This story I got to share with everyone.
Once my husbands family had to do some Pooja so we engaged the service of an Iyengar priest(he grew up in India).

While taking him to my husbands parents house...the priest was talking about his stay in India as a child etc all about his studies too.
He also mentioned that he does not eat onions and garlic etc as he is a strict vegetarian.

Then suddenly he said that some of his batch mates in his vedic school used to sneak out sometimes to go smoke and also some will even eat non veg.

Then he started naming all non veg dishes like:

Chicken 65,Mutton Fry,Chili Chicken,Chicken Manchurian,Fish Fry etc

So I asked him.."how come you know all these so well?"

He said "my friends used to eat but I didn't eat"

Then I asked him "what is chicken 65?"
and he answered..."it's a special dish of chicken where the chicken is 65 days old so the flesh is still soft and tender"

I was thinking he kind of knew too much!!LOL

It should be made mandatory to fit aquaguard and iron remover in public halls and consumable water should be drawn from it. We are careful regarding drinking water supplied in pet bottles and seldom enquire about the water used in preparation of sarbat, rose milk, etc.

When my son was in IIT hostel, Sing. Chennai between 1994 and 1998, there was NO aquaguard fitted in the dining hall.

A 'once white - now brown' linen was tied around the water tap and guys were supposed to take drinking water from that tap!!

My son had an attack of jaundice when he was doing his third year B Tech. I don't know about now! :noidea:

Now Aquaguard is installed in IITs. I visited Kharagpur IIT during last year when my son completed his MTech and I have seen Aquaguard fitted in the hostel drinking pipes with coolers.

I wonder whether IIT stands for Indian Ill Treatment.

Ramanathan sir,

May be B.Techs have cloth twined taps and M.Techs Aquaguard or Tamizhnaattu IIT follows idly method and Kharagpur industrial method?:decision:

Sowbagyavathy Renuka, Greetings.

Really?! I didn't know! I cook chicken very well for my collegues..... I never knew this information! Looks like 'well informed vathyar'!

Cheers!

Yes he is very well informed on anything.

You know he used to keep bragging that since he is a Brahmin..only a Brahmin has the right to take a wife from any caste.
He was saying that he can have up to 4 wives if he wants each from each caste.

Sowbagyavathy Renuka,

Vikramathithan's father, I think, chandra varma or someone like that married 4 girls, one from each varna. But that was a special occassion. A prosttitute claimed and sued him that he should marry him since she nursed him from near death. So, the ruling was, he had to marry her. Since she was a sudhra girl, he had to marry one from each varna. But as per sastra, only if the brahmin is going to marry a sudhra girl he must 3 more from each varna. But if he was going to marry a kshatriya girl, he can only marry two..one from kshatriya & one from higher, a brahmana. Actually same rule applies to other varna too. Kshatriya can marry three, vaisya can marry two and sudhra can marry only one.

Cheers!
