I used to give my sons home hair cuts which were quite good for an amateur with nothing more than a pair of scissors and a comb.

One fine day I thought they were 'old enough' for a professional hair cut and sent to the barber shop.

When they came back with this very original and catchy slogan, the home hair cut was resumed!

Till today I do not know what they saw there and who coined this slogan.. the elder son or the younger son???

There is a ring tone music recently introduced.

[h=1]#34. F. D. Roosevelt.[/h]
Franklin.D.Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the 32nd President on U.S.A.

He was elected four times for this prestigious office continuously and served from 1933 to 1945. He is the only President who has served for more than two terms of office.

While he was on vacation at Campobello Island in 1921, he contacted an illness which left him completely paralyzed from waist down. He could never accept the fact that he was paralyzed for life!

He sought every possible cure ranging from electric current to ultraviolet rays; from massages to mineral baths-anything that could cure his paralysis, make his atrophied legs stronger and revitalize his weakened muscles!

He had to convince the public that he was getting better-if he wanted to run for a public office. Fitting his legs and hip with iron braces, he taught himself to walk short distances, with the help of a cane.

In private and when alone by himself, he would use a wheel chair, after making sure that no one could see him in it. In Public he would stand upright supported on one side by one of his sons or aides. A special car designed with hand controls gave him greater mobility.

He led the U.S.A efficiently at the height of its economic crisis and at the depths of The Great Depression. His combination of Optimism and Activism revived the National Spirit.

Working closely with Winston Churchill and Stalin in leading the Allies against Germany and Japan, he died just before the Allied emerged victorious in the World War II!

About the catchy slogan, I only wondered whether it is a ring tone used in the mobile,
because, these days different types of songs are sung, some say Barrack Obama song, etc.

[h=1]#35. Albert Einstein.[/h]
Albert Einstein (1879-1955) is famous for formulating the Theory Of Relativity. He was awarded Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for discovering the Law of Photoelectric effect. Who would ever believe that as a child he was very slow in learning to talk!

Einstein was so very slow in learning to talk that his parents were greatly concerned about this and consulted a few doctors to make sure that he was a normal child.

His slow verbal development had its good points too! Unlike the other children who pester their parents with thousands of “Why” and “How” Einstein learned to think and figure out about the various curious things seen around, by himself.

He got a gift of compass needle at the age of 5. He was fascinated by the needle always pointing North, wherever and however it was placed. His fascination for magnetic field lasted through out his life.

He had the rare ability to think in terms of mental pictures rather than in mere words. He inferred more from the visual experiments performed in his imagination, than from those performed in the laboratory.

Einstein was a great theoretical physicist and philosopher. He is the best known scientist of all times. He published more than 300 scientific papers and more than 150 non scientific work. He wrote on Philosophical and political subject with equal ease.

Several European and American Universities conferred on him honorary Doctorate degrees for Science and Philosophy.

Einstein was so extraordinarily brilliant that his name is now synonymous with the word Genius.

Was he the same person who in his childhood caused undue worry in the minds of his parents?

[h=1]#37. John Forbes Nash.[/h]
John Forbes Nash (born on June 13th, 1928) is a great American Mathematician, whose works have provided insight into the forces, which govern the chances and events in our daily lives.

Serving as a senior Research Mathematician in Princeton University, he shared the 1994 Nobel memorial prize in Economic Sciences with two other persons.

Nash began to show signs of extreme paranoia, while working in the M.I.T. His behavior became erratic and weird. He spoke of people who were putting his life in danger. He believed that an organization of men were chasing him and they were all wearing red ties.

He was admitted in Mac Lean Hospital in 1959 and the diagnosis was Paranoid Schizophrenia. When he was allowed to leave the hospital, he resigned his job from M.I.T and took his pension. Nash went to Europe seeking political asylum in France and East Germany-without any success. He tried to renounce his U.S citizenship!

Nash was again committed to the New Jersey Hospital in 1961. After 1970 he was never committed to any hospital. He refused to take any more medication!

Despite being wrecked physically and emotionally Nash has won several awards and world wide fame.

Nash was awarded the John Von Neumann Theory Prize for discovering his famous Nash Equilibria. He received the Leroy.P.Steele prize in 1999.

He shared the Nobel memorial prize for Economic Sciences in 1994, with two other persons. He was conferred honorary doctorates in 1999, 2003 and 2007 by various Universities.

Despite the psychological problems which threw his life out of gear, when he was at the prime of youth, John Nash has emerged victorious in his battle for survival and recognition.

I am ashamed of myself that I was not aware of the existence of such a great Jagadguru in India.

I never watch T.V. and no sat sangh now-a-days. Only mega-maha-serials or news channel will be kept ON the whole day.

How could I have known this mahatma???:pout:

I will make up for the lost time by listening to his discourses regularly. :ear:

Thank you dear Raji for the info.

I was not aware of this programme earlier. I used to normally see Sankara TV, chiefly because of Srigeri
Mutt activities are telecast at frequent intervals. On reading your post, I looked for Aastha TV Channel.
With the blessings of Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya, there is a Handicapped University in Chitrakoot. Some

about imparting higher and professional education to the disabled people and the role of this University.

38 (#1). Jagadguru Rambhadracharya.(Photo in # 385)

# 38. Jagadguru Rambhadracharya

part #2. Birth and early life

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya was born in a brahmin family ( in the lineage of the sage Vasishta) in Shandikhurd village U.P.

Born to mother Shachidevi and father Pandit Rajdev Mishra, he was named Giridhar by his grand aunt, a paternal cousin of his paternal grandfather, Pandit Suryabali Mishra.

The grand aunt was a devotee of the female saint of the medieval India Meera Bai - who used the name Giridhar to address Krishna in her compositions.

Loss of eyesight

Giridhar lost his eyesight at the age of two months. On 24 March 1950, trachoma infected his eyes . There were no advanced facilities for treatment in the village.

He was taken to an elderly woman in a nearby village who was known to cure trachoma boils to provide relief. The woman applied a paste of myrobalan to Giridhar's eyes to burst the lumps, but his eyes started bleeding, resulting in the loss of his eyesight.

He was taken by his family to the King George Hospital in Lucknow where his eyes were treated for 21 days, but his sight could not be restored. Various physicians were approached but to no avail.

Rambhadracharya has been without eyesight ever since. He cannot read or write, as he does not use the Braille system. He learns by listening and composes by dictating to scribes.

Accident at a young age.

In June 1953 Giridhar had a near-death experience. At a juggler's monkey dance show in the village, the children—including Giridhar—suddenly ran away when the monkey began to touch them. Giridhar fell in a small dry well, and was trapped for some time until a teenage girl rescued him.

Giridhar's grandfather told him his life was saved because he had learned the following line of a verse from Ramacharitha manas

यह चरित जे गावहिं हरिपद पावहिं ते न परहिं भवकूपा ॥
yaha carita je gāvahı̐ haripada pāvahı̐ te na parahı̐ bhavakūpā ॥

Those who sing this attain to the feet of Hari (Vishnu) and never fall into the well of birth and death.

Giridhar's grandfather asked him to recite the verse always, and from then on, Giridhar started the practice of reciting the verse every time he takes water or food.

Part # 3. Mastering Gita and Ramcharitmanas

Possessing a remarkable memory, Giridhar memorised the entire Bhagavad Gita - consisting of around 700 verses with chapter and verse numbers- in just 15 days at the age of five years - with the help of his neighbour, Pandit Murlidhar Mishra.

In 1955 on The Janmashtami day, he recited the entire Bhagavad Gita. He released the first Braille version of the scripture, with the original Sanskrit text and a Hindi commentary, at New Delhi on 30 November 2007- so to say 52 years after he had memorised the Gita.

When Giridhar was seven years old, he memorised the entire Ramacharitmanas of Saint Tulsidas - consisting of around 10,900 verses with chapter and verse numbers - in just 60 days, assisted by his grandfather.

On Ramanavami day of 1957, he recited the entire epic while fasting. Later, Giridhar went on to memorise the Vedas, the Upanishads, works of Sanskrit grammar, the Bhagavata Maha Purana and all the works of Tulsidas, as well as many other works in Indian literature.

Upanayana and Katha discourses
:

Giridhar's sacred thread ceremony was performed on 24 June 1961. On this day, , he was also initiated and given Diksha into the mantra of Rama by Pandit Ishvardas Maharaj.

Having mastered the Bhagavad Gita and Ramcharitmanas at a very young age, Giridhar started attending the Katha programmes held near his village once every three years.

The third time he attended, he presented a Katha on Ramcharitmanas, which was acclaimed by several famous exponents of the Katha art.

#4. Schooling

Although Giridhar did not have any formal schooling, his learning was rare for children of his age. His family wished him to become a Kathavachak (a Katha artist) but Giridhar wished to pursue his studies.

His father explored possibilities for his education in Varanasi, and thought of sending him to a special school for blind students. Giridhar's mother refused to send him there, saying that blind children were not treated well at the school.

On 7 July 1967 Giridhar joined the Adarsh Gaurishankar Sanskrit College in the nearby Sujanganj village of Jaunpur to study Sanskrit grammar along with Hindi, English, Maths, History, and Geography. He recalls this day in his autobiography as the day when the Golden Journey of his life began.

With an ability to memorise material by listening to it just once, Giridhar has not used Braille or other aids to study. In three months, he had memorised and mastered the entire Laghu siddhānta kaumudī. He topped his class for four years, and passed the Uttara Madhyama (higher secondary) examination in Sanskrit with first class and distinction.

Graduation and masters

In 1971 Giridhar enrolled in Varanasi for higher studies in Vyakarana in the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. He topped the final examination for the Shastri (Bachelor of Arts) degree in 1974, and then enrolled for the Acharya (Master of Arts) degree at the same institute.

While pursuing his master's degree, he participated in various national-level competitions at the All-India Sanskrit Conference in New Delhi., There he won five out of the eight gold medals—in Vyakarana, Samkya, Nyaya, Vedanta and Sanskrit Antakshari.

Indira Gandhi, the P.M. of India awarded the five gold medals, along with the Chalvaijayanti trophy for Uttar Pradesh, to Giridhar. Impressed by his abilities, Gandhi offered to send him to the U.S.A for treatment of his eyes from her own personal funds, but Giridhar turned down this offer by replying with an extemporaneously-composed Sanskrit verse.

Part # 5.

After completing his master's degree, Giridhar enrolled for the doctoral Vidyavaridhi (PhD) degree at the same institute, under Pandit Ramprasad Tripathi.

He received a research fellowship from the UGC but faced financial hardship in the coming years. With great difficulty, he completed his Vidyavaridhi degree in Sanskrit grammar on 14 October 1981 from Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.

His dissertation was titled Adhyātmarāmāyaṇe Apāṇinīyaprayogānāṃ Vimarśaḥ, or Deliberation on the non-Paninian usages in the Adhyatma Ramayana.

On the completion of his doctorate, UGC appointed him as the head of the Vyakarana department of the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.

However, Giridhar did not accept the offer; he decided to devote his life to the service of religion, society, and the disabled.

On 9 May 1997, Giridhar (now known as Rambhadracharya) was awarded the post-doctorate Vachaspati (DLitt) degree by Sampurnanand Sanskrit University for his Sanskrit dissertation Investigation into verbal knowledge of every Sutra of the Ashtadhyayi.

In this work, he explained each aphorism of the grammar of Panini in Sanskrit verses.

# 6. Service to the disabled.

On 23 August 1996 Swami Rambhadracharya established the Tulsi School for the Blind in Chitrakoot. He founded the Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University—an institution of higher learning solely for disabled students—on 27 September 2001 in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

This is the first university in the world exclusively for the disabled. The university was created by an ordinance of the Uttar Pradesh Government, which was later passed as the Uttar Pradesh State Act 32 (2001) by the Uttar Pradesh legislature.
The act appointed Swami Rambhadracharya as the lifelong chancellor of the university. The university offers graduate, post-graduate, and doctorate degrees in various streams, including Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Sociology, Psychology, Music, Drawing and Painting, Fine Arts, Special Education, Education, History, Culture and Archaeology, Computer and Information Sciences, Vocational Education, Law, Economics, and Prosthetics and Orthotics.

The university plans to start offering courses in Ayurveda and Medical Sciences from 2013. Admissions are restricted to the four types of disabled students – visually impaired, hearing impaired, mobility impaired, and mentally impaired – as defined by the Disability Act (1995) of the Government of India.

As per the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the university is among the chief educational institutes for Information Technology and Electronics in the state.

Rambhadracharya also founded an organisation called Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Viklang Seva Sangh, headquartered in Satna (M.P). Its goal is to create community awareness and initiate child development programs in rural India.

Its primary objective is to supplement the education programs of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University, by helping disabled children get a good education. Aid is generally given in the form of facilities which enable easier access to education.

Rambhadracharya also runs a hundred-bed hospital in Gujarat.

(concludes with post number # 7 tomorrow)

# 7. International recognition.

In 1992 Rambhadracharya led the Indian delegation at the Ninth World Conference on Ramayana, held in Indonesia.

He has travelled to several countries including United States to deliver discourses on Hindu religion and peace. He has been profiled in the International Who's Who of Intellectuals.

Address at Millennium World Peace Summit

Rambhadracharya was one of the spiritual and religious Gurus from India at the Millennium World Peace Summit, organised from 28–31 August 2000 by the U.N.O in the New York City.

While addressing the gathering, he gave Sanskrit definitions for the words Bharata (the ancient name of India) and Hindu, and touched upon the Nirguna and Saguna aspects of God.

In his speech on Peace, he called for developed and developing nations to come together to strive for the eradication of poverty, the fight against terrorism, and nuclear disarmament. At the end of his speech, he recited the Shanti mantra.
