# 3. "Charlie" Chaplin.

Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor, film director and composer best known for his work during the era of silent movies.

He became the most famous film star in the world before the end of World War I. Chaplin used mime, slapstick and other routines of visual comedy, and continued well into the era of the talkies. But his films decreased in frequency from the end of the 1920s.

His most famous role was that of The Tramp, which he first played in the in 1914. From the April 1914 onwards he was writing and directing most of his films. By 1916 he was also producing them. From 1918 he was even composing the music for them.

He co-founded the United Artists in 1919 with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith.

Chaplin was one of the most creative and influential personalities of the silent-film era. He was influenced by his predecessor, Max Linder, the French silent film comedian to whom he dedicated one of his films.

His working life in entertainment spanned over 75 years, from the Victorian stage and the music hall in the United Kingdom as a child performer, until close to his death at the age of 88.

His high-profile public and private life encompassed both adulation and controversy. In 1999 he was ranked as the tenth greatest male screen legend of all time.

Chaplin was not just 'big', he was gigantic. In 1915, he burst onto a war-torn world bringing it the gift of comedy, laughter and relief while it was tearing itself apart through World War I.

Over the next 25 years, through the great depression and the rise of Hitler, he stayed on the job. It is doubtful any individual has ever given more entertainment, pleasure and relief to so many human beings when they needed it the most.

G.B.Shaw called Chaplin "the only genius to come out of the movie industry".

Charlie Chaplain look-alike competitions were hot favorites then.

But Charlie himself was pushed to the second / third places and at times would not even make to the finals!

Can you believe it to be possible?

Were the look-alike more authentic than the original??

The third son should get half of what the second son got.

The fourth son should get half of what the third son got.

Every one was thinking of a practical solution without massacring the

Then one man came up with a brilliant solution!

What was it???

What was it???

The usual one - the judge brought his own cow, made it a total of 16, then divided it as 8,4,2,1, took his own cow safely back home.

CONGRATULATIONS! :clap2:

I did not know that it was a 'usual' solution.

I thought it was an 'ingenious' solution! :thumb:

Who will dare to mix his own cow with the property

which was going to be shared among four brothers!

# 4. An Extra riddle for today ...

(since we have almost 22 hours for the next post)

The super computer could find put everything from the urine sample of a person.

The wicked house wife wanted to give the computer a tough time.

She mixed the urine samples of her son and her daughter along with her sample. :heh:

She gave that sample for analysis and wished that the computer
should go nuts trying to figure things out!"

It was her turn to go nuts when the result came! :dizzy:

WHY???

Even the wildest guesses are allowed! :)

Take a shot and try your luck! :thumb:

I presume it was "The super computer could find out everything from the urine sample of a person." Unless some idea is given it is difficult to say exactly, bit imo, the super computer might have said, a lady pregnant with non-identical twins, male and female.

There are a few trees in a Garden. On one of them, a Pear Tree, there are Pears - a
sweet yellow juicy fruit (quite logical). But after a strong wind blew there were neither
Pears on the tree nor on the ground. One gentleman said, the pears neither on the
tree nor on the ground - to begin with they are in a basket. Other gentleman said,
the birds have eaten away. What then

Dear Mr. Sangom,
you are partly correct. :thumb:

Shall we wait for some more interesting and inspiring answers before I give my answer- in case nobody had found it out by then.

The question seems to be incomplete!

Let me try. The supercomputer could detect the sample was mixed. Male urine is different from female urine. The wicked lady should not have added her son's urine to the mixture. She botched it herself.

Am I reading this thread in my dream? No.. no...
But something is wrong with you guys.........

Dear Raji Ram Ji,

Anything is possible. Life is like that. Am glad to have responsed to this thread. My conscience has been pricking me miserably deep for being uncivil to Mrs.VR earlier on some occassions. I thank God that Mrs.VR responded so affectionately...obviously Mrs.VR has a kind heart beneath what we mistake to be a tough surface. Thankyou Mrs.VR.

Sorry, i had missed reading thru this thread earlier.

Best regards.

The poor lady almost fainted :faint:

Dear Mrs. H.H,

My father often used to say that when we are soft, accommodating, obliging, unable to say NO, we have to put up a tough exterior like the jack fruit.

Otherwise we will be swallowed whole.

I have been left to defend myself for over three decades on all grounds - except financially - and I have to 'appear' fierce since I am not really fierce.

Thank you that you could see through my 'appearance' and find the real me!

As you have said anything is possible - if only we want to do it and sincerely try it!

I invite everyone to contribute to this thread by writing about persons you love most, you like most, worship in your heart and adore.

The topic is "...through all men and gods"!

with best wishes and warm regards,
V.R.

Dear Mrs. H.H.

I guessed as much since according to Physics
Like Poles repel and unlike poles attract!

Looking forward to your contribution
(minus caste issues) in this thread!

I am really happy I started this thread-
with zero planning,
but it makes me feel better too!
Take care good friend :tea:

So true Mrs.VR. Like poles did repel...now that we are friends we can bury it all..

நல்லார் தொடர்பை விடல்=பல்லார் பகைகொள்ளலின் தீது

i have earned the enemity of many, i will not sin by turning away from a person with a noble heart of friendship.

Best wishes.

# 2. Riddle for today!
It was a small town with just two barbers or hair stylists.
The new comer to the place visited the first barber.
He was spic and span and very presentable.
The second man sported a weird hair style.
Which man did he prefer to be his hair stylist and why???

A village barber introduced himself to the new entrant of a village. By way of self-introduction, he said this about himself:

"I shave all those who do not shave themselves"

Q: Does the barber have a shave or not?

A village barber introduced himself to the new entrant of a village. By way of self-introduction, he said this about himself:

"I shave all those who do not shave themselves"

Q: Does the barber have a shave or not?

The statement is self contradictory. It simply is something like:

I will shave if I will not shave
