I don't think wrapping the upper cloth around top half is forbidden. Wearing the angavastram as a malai and spreading it is acceptable and done. i have done it in guruvayur.

Mam,

It is not Mamas fault. I think the temple authorities do insist for strict enforcement of dress code.

recently, as a group, we were in ambalapuzha temple. there were xtians and a muslim.

all of us men, removed our tops, and went in for darshan. i saw the xtians and muslim, accept the chandan, and contribute in the hundi.
the women too came to view the pragaram, and accepted the offerings. with all due respects, the same respect we would show in a church or mosque.

all of us were class mates 40 years ago, and did not view visiting the temple or the church as a spectacle for just one religion.

i was pleasantly surprised though :)

Sir,

I think the custom is that the upper garment, angavastram should be tied at one’s waist inside the temple and especially before the God.:-)

Regards

Inside Kanyakumari temple, I saw a topless American gentleman, his gown-clad wife and their teen aged son!

For sure, I had a pleasant surprise! :)

This proves beyond doubt that no one goes to a temple to pray!LOL

Its actually quite hard to concentrate in a temple full of people..we tend to 'check out' other people.

That is why praying all alone is still the best but make sure there is no mirror around..some of us tend to love looking at ourselves!LOL

Dear Renuka,

You can check out other people and pray too. Don't you believe in getting the best of both the worlds?

Dear Sravna,

Provided the Maamas look like Greek Gods..then I can check out the Greek Gods and pray to the Hindu Gods!LOL

Dear Renuka,

Why do you want to look at the maamas ? They can never be Greek Gods. You have to think younger.

Yucks! Who likes younger men! They are babies.

So you see very few Maamas can be Greek Gods so that way we wont get distracted and just focus on the Hindu God in the temple

Dear Renu,

No one needs to see the mAmAs. In the crowded Kerala temples - for example Guruvayoor (always) and Padmanabhaswamy (now a days)

they just push one another and move forward at snail speed and this makes me sick! The Human smell is one of the worst in the world! :yuck:

Then why do I go to pray in such temples? The place where the Lord gives dharshan is supposed to give positive energy. But I don't visit such temples

often! Daily prayer at home and my music classes give me enough peace of mind! :)

Dear RR ji,

I read once that Energy is Energy.

Is there something called Positive or Negative energy?

I think it just depends what relaxes us.

For example I am sure soft classical music relaxes you and for me loud catchy music relaxes me..so when anything relaxes us we call it positive when it agitates us we call it negative.

It is just a perception..I am sure Sravna will surely explain more!LOL

So I guess going to crowded temple is of no use cos whatever benefit we supposedly got is nullified by the inconvenience faced.

BTW RR ji..God is known to appear in different forms..remember the story where Shiva and Parvati appeared as an old couple and Shiva acted as if He was dying and asking for water? and only thief gave water to Shiva?

So you might never know..anyone of those Maamas could have been even God testing His devotees to see who loves Him no matter how sweaty and topless He is.

What yaar..you missed darshan from Maamas!

Hear this...

He explains that Energy is Energy and not Positive or Negative.

Dear Renuka,

So you have to be careful before you check out even maamas.

Dear Renu,

I believe in positive and negative energy! Shall tell you about my friend who is suffering from uterine cancer. She is undergoing treatment and you know

what all changes it makes in appearance. Whenever I visit her, I never talk about her appearance but remind her of the nice time we had together in the

past. She used to thank me after I return home for the positive energy she got by my company. The same friend feels bad when another common friend

visits her and repeatedly says, 'eppadi irundha nee ippadi AyittayE! manasu kashtamA irukkE!' and so on :blah:

Dear RR ji,

Hear the Video I put ..the Acharya explains really well that Energy is just Energy and not positive and negative...but at one point you might actually think that he contradicts himself when he uses the word good energy..but I think that he meant that energy can channeled to do good but the fact remains that Energy is Energy and how we use Energy.

Dear Renu,

The Acharya advises people not to believe in false ideas of receiving positive energy from things like lingam / water. But he also says that meditation

gives peace of mind and makes you calm and it is a 'beautiful' energy! This is what I think as positive energy. The words of hatred spoken to us create

panic in our minds and that I consider as a negative energy. If someone scolds you in public, you don't feel like talking to that person again, right?

We are not mahAns to ignore insults! At least I am not one! :)

Dear RR ji,

As I mentioned earlier..when we feel good we call it positive and when we feel agitated we call it negative.

Both positive and negative are our own perceptions.

So that means all the while I was right when I used to wonder is there positive or negative energy?? Time for me to open an Ashram!

RR ji..you join my Ashram as Carnatic Spiritual Music Specialist.

Sravna as Maya Specialist!LOL

RR ji,

What?? Of course I will talk to that person again in such a way that he/she would never want to talk to me ever again!LOL

You see when someone is fuming mad..do not shout back..smile back and make that person feel like a fool..people who taunt us or talk bad about us or fight with us want a reaction from us..so never give them that pleasure that we are affected by them even thought we could be affected by their actions.

Never let the enemy know whats in our mind..when he/she does not see the reaction he wants..he/she has to withdraw.

Or we can even be super nice to that person to make him/her feel "OMG I was such a bad person..he/she did not even react to me" and they start to feel guilty!LOL

Reverse Psychology RR ji.

At times the only way to defeat an opponent is not give him/her what he/she wants.

Good idea, Renu! Ashrams make huge money now a days!

We can help the poor and downtrodden people, easily!

RR ji,

Let Sravna lecture everyone on Maya..that everything is Maya and do not hold on to it..then you play mesmerizing hypnotizing Ragas and let everyone empty their bank accounts in a frenzy.

Then we decide who is poor and downtrodden!LOL

Dear Renuka,

That is very tricky. One has to project what is real as unreal. But thanks for considering me a specialist.

Sravna,

There is no one I have ever known that can confuse anyone better than you!LOL(just kidding)

See my reply to RR ji on how the Ashram should work.
