Dear Renuka,

Good analysis. But if someone is into spirituality, it does not mean he has to be involved only in religious activities. A a matter of fact beyond a level of spirituality you become at ease with religious and worldly activities. As Shri Vaagmi said recently one can enjoy the best of both the worlds. Surprisingly that requires a high level of spirituality because only then you can see the limits and you will not cross any line and be always in control of self

Those who are caught between spirituality and materialism, suffer because they can be neither truly spiritual nor truly materialistic. They mostly end up as hypocrites. And those who are materialistic, enjoy materialism but sadly oblivious of the spiritual .

Dear Sravna,

I feel for most people they get involved with spirituality for material gain but then again this sort of thinking is sanctioned by religion and there are various homas/yagnas for these purpose.

Then once they are hit with some form of adversity where money can not help them anymore only then they resort to being purely spiritual.

Yes..one can feel comfortable with both worldly activities and non worldly activities..for example if one feels flirtish and enjoys some worldly attention...one can always fall back on spirituality by feeling that they are merely enjoying love emotions which is the basis of human existence.

In fact the person who excels in striking a perfect balance of spiritualism and materialism is the Master Hypocrite!LOL

No, you are a hypocrite only when you are not true to your inner thoughts i.e, spiritual behavior but worldly thoughts However here, it is the reverse i.e, worldly behavior but spiritual thoughts. What do you call that?
Reverse hypocrite:)

In India, we have plenty of such personalities, some of them are cooling their heals in jails of various Indian cities.!!

Dear Sri auh or is it a Smt.?,

Dear shri Vaagmi, true to your name, you have burst in wonderful splendours with a lengthy deliberation. If I were to just say that the last three letters of your post is what we should be doing and assisting in doing, a grave injustice would be done to your typing effort. So here I go:

Revealing condescension. Thanks.

When somebody says there is proof of spirituality without even touching the bottle, you can understand that the person is addicted to spirituality !!

Quite enlightening!!

For example, they can put a burning hot iron with weird patterns on the two shoulders of a "conditioned but unsuspecting" in the name of god (which otherwise no sane person would do). Good enough?

In the transactions here, whenever I suddenly encounter meanness, I prefer not to answer. So I am not answering to this.

You are putting too much into nothing. All these are just mere ideas and to harp on these and to condition our life based on guesswork is stretching it beyond reasonable limits.

You are, as is your wont, judgmental. From the high table on which you have hoisted yourself every thing said by others sound meaningless or just nothing. Get down from the pedestal of a self appointed super judge and get to the normal levels and you will find the real meaning of faiths. They are not the Rasikar Manrams that we have in plenty in TN.

You have missed the mark here. Let us not live life based on unproven ideas and vain hopes of a non-existent super power.

Close your eyes and demand for proof that the world is indeed bright. Let us agree to disagree.

I think three brightest minds of this forum have totally confused me comparing Spirituality and materialism.

Now What should I do -Drink and engage in other pleasures of living or join the hare krishna ,narayana gang.or do both alternately.

I am starting with the first activity to be on the safe side and wait for further gyan on this subject.lol

Krishji,

With the fondest of hope that I am NOT one of those three you have mentioned, I try to offer help to you:

Have your quota of pegs if you are not yet an alcoholic. After the effect of the alcohol wears of and when you are in a sombre mood if any thought comes to your mind about the futility of all endeavours that you make/made, including the high you look for after the stiff first two pegs, then try to explore God idea. Then you are already firmly in the grip of spirituality. LOL.

If you are an alcoholic and craving is there, try to deny yourself the soothing peg and stand away from yourself and look at the craving krish. Take a good look, enjoy the fun, and then give him/yourself the needed large pegs. Wait for the effect and then think about God idea. You may either pray or abuse God depending on your mood at that time because you will be in the grip of C,O and H of alcohol. Record whatever you are saying in that state faithfully as an audio file and hear it when you are sober after the hangover period. You will understand spirituality and may even start writing out a bhashyam on one of the advaitams.

Think of it. The prospect is indeed attractive. LOL.

Dear Krish Ji,

An Inebriated mind does better adhering to the Bhakti Marg!LOL

So drink away...Peetam Madhuram(Drinking is Sweet).

Dear Krish Ji,

It is futile waiting for any gyan to happen. The essence of spirituality is in practice. So just get immersed.
