How common is IC marriages among TB community in Delhi?

I could not find any study on TB in Delhi.

Rural Populace Comparatively More Open to Inter-Caste Marriages: Study
Brahmins, Rural Populace Comparatively More Open to Inter-Caste Marriages: Study
New Delhi, Sept 21: A study conducted by three academicians of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) finds Brahmins to have the highest rate of inter-caste marriages, as compared to other caste groups.

The study, undertaken by Tridip Ray, Arka Roy Chaudhuri, and Komal Sahai, also explores the link between endogamy and lack of education. On the contrary, the trio found that the higher the education among the men, the greater the resiliency towards inter-caste marriages.

Contrary to the popular perception, most inter-caste marriages are not linked to love affairs between the couples.

Over 60 percent of the inter-caste marriages were arranged by the parents or kin of the spouses, and 66% of the brides met their groom on the day of the wedding.

The central government does not release the Socio-Economic and Caste Census data on the premise of caste. Therefore, there is no exact information accessible about inter-caste marriages in India. Data from the National Family Health Survey (NHFS-III) show that 11% of Indian marriages are between different castes. Accordingly, approximately 95% of all married couples marry within their caste in states like Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Meghalaya. Additionally, other regions with their own caste marriage rates include Punjab, Sikkim, Goa, and Kerala (80%).
Under Narendra Modi’s governance, India actively promoted and backed inter-caste marriages by offering financial incentives to those who do so. According to the best Delhi lawyer, despite the government setting the legal minimum age for marriage, the right to marry after a certain age is regarded as a social standard.

One of the many interesting rights of humans is the right to choose a companion of one’s own choice as an adult. Marriage laws that apply to Hindus have application because the caste system is primarily an idea that emerged from Hindus. The courts have repeatedly ruled that the consent of family members or friends is not required when two adults desire to get married.

According to the Supreme Court of India, inter-caste marriages are in the public interest and serve as a unifying force for the country, and they have never been prohibited in sovereign India.

The marriages of TB's are conducted by the Vadhyar. I was shocked when one of my known vadhyar in the National Capital Region (NCR) told me that 90% of marriages in last 3-4 years are intercaste.

This shows that the community is so broad minded that they are ready to renounce their culture & traditions! They are ready to marry any one!

Is there a shortrage of temples & south indian spiritual groups that has enjoined this?

Infact there are many South Indian Temples, Matts (including Sringeri, Kanchi) dotting Delhi. There are plethora of cultural festivals from Carnatic Music, Radha Krishna Kalyanam, Savitri Puranam, Sasta Preeti to Vishnu Sahasranama Group, Lalita Sahasranama group etc that conduct their programs regularly.

Delhi is a melting pot of all cultures! There are no anti Brahmin groups too!

Initially Tamil Brahmins settled in Karol Bagh, RK Puram, Munirka areas. Now there are dispersed across the National Capital region apart from Delhi from Gurugram to Ghaziabad & Faridabad ito Greater Noida.

I have stayed in multiple condominiums. The latest where I stay has 1100 families & just 4-5 Tamil Brahmin families. They hardly get together unlike the Bengalis or Punjabis. Diwali & Dusehra are celebrated together by all Hindus. Even in Navarthri Golu which is a unique festival & custom of Tamil Brahmins there is hardly any interest to celebrate together.

No wonder the community has lost its cultural moorings and ready to mix with any caste!

It is a shame that a community with a tradition & history of several thousand years have gone berserk in the 21st century! I was told that Mumbai is not far behind!

The community is dying & no body is interested in solving the problem!

We have discussed about intercaste & inter religious marriages in this group several times!

It means the community has not learnt any lesson and wants to give up its uniqueness & cultural identity and merge with the ocean! It is a civilizational collapse!

What should we do to arrest this trend...I dont think our Tamil Brahmin youngsters will listen to saner voice...They are too educated, too independent, too liberal!

We have not sought support so far....80% of India are Hindus....Except in Tamil Nadu there is no organised hatred for Tamil Brahmins. Can we escalate the problem to other Hindu Communities?

Can we put huge advertisements in all English dailes pan India pleading with other communities not to marry any Tamil Brahmin telling that the community is in danger of extinction!

Can we create a consortium fund to promote Brahmin-Brahmin marriage. It is easy to create a fund of 10000 Crores which will be used to give a token of INR 10 lakhs to 1 lakh Tamil Brahmins who in turn will take a pledge to have atleast 3 children and help preserve the community.

None of the Gurus or Tamil Brahmin community associations have been able to do anything to arrest this trend.

If nothing works let them create a separate district for Tamil Brahmins. Let all Tamil Brahmins move there. Getting jobs should not be a problem! We don't have a choice. Else our generation will be held accountable for this self genocide (I am not sure if it is the right word)

@vgane , from when did IC marriages start? What's the history?
It used to be here & there in the 60's & 70's (like US VP Kamala Harris mother) or running away with the Dhobi or barber. Ex DMK leader Murasoli Maran's wife is a Tambrahm. In the 80's it made a jump. But post liberalization in 90's it picked up pace. In Delhi & Mumbai, Tamil Brahmins continued to marry within the community. In Delhi most studied in the DTEA schools where Tamil was taught. There were South Indian temples across all major Indian cities & Kanchi Sankaracharya played a stellar role in building these & consecrating the temples. But post 2000 IC marriages galloped. With the Dravida parties being in continual power since the 60's in Tamil Nadu, our girls were coveted by the Dravidias. But now our boys too have gone berserk and 70% of the Tambrahm families in Chennai have intercaste marriages in their families & almost 100% in extended families. Moving away from Agraharams, women's education, anti-brahmin movement in Tamilnadu resulting in large scale migration to other States all this have caused the decline!

Dear Sir,

There is nothing wrong in IC marriages but it should be for the right reason. Not for money or power . If so it is pathetic situation and needs to be stemmed.

@sravna do you know when IC marriages started in Delhi?, why is it so high Delhi compared to Mumbai or the south,

Did women start marrying out first in Delhi, how did shortage of brides hit men, How did they Marry or did they remain unmarried.

I can only guess. South is a lot more conservative than Delhi. Are you sure it is much higher in Delhi than in Mumbai? If so I am not sure why. Other members may help answer the question.

@sravna who would know about this, please add them in the discussion
My understanding is that Delhi is a very racist city and misogynist city back in the day as it's today and south Indians unfortunately suffered racism, also sex ratio in Delhi is skewed which drove demand for women, which unfortunately meant Women from South Indian communities (TB, malayalis etc), were in unfavorable position and preferred to do IC to escape conservate families as well as to be with a local strongman if you will for protection, thats my hypothesis at least

As far as I know Shri Ganesh(vgane) is very knowledgeable. He has already expressed his views. He may answer your query.

Ganesh Sir would you want the address the query?

The IC marriages happen of the second and 3rd generation who are settled in Delhi region. They are convent educated, hardly can read & write Tamil and jump to Hindi in a conversation. They may not have studied in Tamil schools. I am not aware of any sort of pressure being applied. Very recently a TB girl married a Gujjar(ST) boy with consent of parents. Boys choose any girl-can be a Punjabi or Bania or a Rajput or a Kayasth allmost all with consent of parents

Don't we have Delhi based TB's in this group!?I wrote basis my interaction with a Tam Brahm priest & my own corroboration! Can others too comment? I have raised a serious issue that is impacting the survival of the community! Suppose there is a news that 90% of Marwaris in Chennai are now marrying the local Tamils will it not create a upheaval? Why are we silent? Can we check with our contacts and get the multiple perspectives? Should this be a topic of investigative journalism? I think so

It is indeed a concern if it is happening on a large scale Ganesh Sir. I believe in diversity at the physical level in the sense group identities need to be preserved but believe in unity of higher values. That makes the world an interesting place. I believe if what you suspect is true it is already going out of control. I agree that something needs to be done.

The situation when i would approve of IC marriages is when it is natural as with compatibility of gunas. That is it should be based on the compatibility of mind.

Intercate marriages take place because caste division itself is adharmic. The four fold divisions found in Purusha suktham and Gita is not birth based and have no connections to Jaathi except name related confusion.

Secondly those professing to uphold Brahmin values are clueless about what they are. All religions of Hinduism may have survived onslaught of invaders over thousand years but the current invasion by western excesses is by far the worst. Many Indians ape the west for their worst qualities.

India is invaded by fake gurus of huge influence and they support superstitions. There is a joke that there are two professions open to school drop outs. One is politics and the other is to become a guru. Followers are waiting to be told to follow.

Everything is passed off as sanathana dharma but almost all practices are nothing but few decades old customs that are rooted in ignorance. Current invasion by the likes of vastu shastra is not eternal but invented and evolved in four hundred years. That is but one example

Corruption has become a way of life including the support by the silent majority that goes along tolerating and yielding

It is hard to tell with reason what one has to protect and why anymore. Youngsters are moving beyond the hypocrisy.

This can all be reversed in about few decades but it will require unifying Matams and various Gurus on few basics.

No one has emerged thus far to take on this challenge

There are rotten people in every profession. Why blame spirituality alone? If snything has to be blamed, it is the prevailing times that in general has to be blamed. It has to do with unabashed embrace of materialism. What can spiritualists do if the rest are thinking only of money and power? One needs to be thoughtful in ones analysis and understand the context.
