1. Comfort dresses and tight fitting - is there a connection?
2. For velcro, pulling strength is 1 to 2 psi (pounds per square inch) and shear strength is 6 to 10 psi. A big big sigh is necessary to separate a well stitched joint.
1. Yes sir! If a stretch material, tight fitting dresses are comfortable! If non-stretch, :nono: !

2. Usually the blouses are real tight on the waist line. You may check it with your better half!

Hence my doubt about Velcro! Probably, your wife used a real broad Velcro. :)

P.S: OMG! Velcro needs capital 'V'. If not, a spell error is shown.

Of course size, contact area is important for the Velcro with capital V. 1"x4" velcro can resist 12Kg sigh pull. Instead of fighting nature, the fair ones can take a leaf out of rajastanis and lambadis, as far as waist fit is concerned.

I got it now, Sarang Sir!

A long strip of Velcro was used! I thought they were thin pieces to replace the hooks. :D

BTW, as per your earlier statement, 4 square inches (1" X 4") of Velcro can resist only up to 8 lb (3.62874 Kg) sigh pull!

Let us remember the limit!
P.S: Google search gave me instant conversion from pound to Kg! :ranger:

you know sarang ji
Due to wisdom of last generation we boys always wore clothes couple of sizes larger. they in their enthusiasm to provide for the future growth were liberal in sizing of clothes

we had half pants reaching a few inches below the knee[ they were three quartes pants] . shirts were between half and full . there were spare shirt and pant buttons in

the linings of shirts and pockets .

we had large pockets in shirts and deep pockets in pants so that nothing used to get lost .

safety pins were used if money was put in pockets.

ink pens were safely kept away from shirts.

we were well looked after kids

how right you are KK. i always wore 2 sizes too large and these tore or wore away by the time i reached that size. the habit persists however, even now, i am 64. i still buy 2 sizes too large, much to the chagrin of the wife boss, but for my own sense of accustomed comfort of loose fit. :)

Sing Chennai tailors are smart. They fix the sleeves of the blouse in gent's shirt style and make a few parallel stitches

about half an inch apart. When the lady bulges, the stitches could be removed one by one, to make the blouse fit her! :thumb:

P.S: Please check a shirt to know how the sleeves are attached!

dear raji, good lady,

the sari is basically a socialist garment ie females of all sizes can and do look elegant irrespective of their waist or height.

in order for their own health and self confidence, i think sing chennai tailors, would stop being so 'smart' so as to make easy leeway for expansion. that will put some sense of discipline as to what the females eat. suffice to say, that for most, even today, there is no self control. the indian female loves food, for comfort, for joy, for happiness, for sadness and leftovers after feeding their children.

all wrong reasons, in my opinion.

a well proportioned slim body, gives a lot of confidence and shines of good health. let us attack the root cause, and not find easy ways out of a potentially very damaging healthwise issue ie obesity.

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

I frequently remember your expression of 'gundu chatti' while walking on Sing. Chennai roads. It is rather difficult to find slim girls.

Is eating Pizza often, the reason? No idea!!

Some girls are on strict diet to maintain a slim figure till their wedding but add a few lbs soon and some more, after child birth.

Some hormones changes also increase the size. Poor dears! Some are cautious NOT to put on extra pounds.

Recently in a get together, I met a girl who used to have a
lovely, slim figure in our village and she has bloated like an inflated balloon.

She is a doctor and says she can't find medicines to control the hormone changes in her body!

some ladies go thru medical routines like liposuction -I hope I have got the term right, to get rid of extra fat .

I came across a lady who had done that. Her MIL was complaining how her DIL had blown away her husbands salary on such surgical procedures to look attractive to

her husband. see ,there is a price to pay for getting rid of fat,lol

Lo.........w cut, 'barely there' blouses are the hot fashion today!

So G C mAmis go for removing excess tyres from their back to wear such blouses! :thumb:
Surgery costs in lakhs!

P.S: We had a thread in Chit Chat sometime back about this surgery! :)

P.S: We say the code 15 - 3 for anything acquired FREE. :D

how to clean silver jewelry |???????? ????????? ??????? ??????? ???????- Dinakaran Ladies Corner

I use smooth viboothi to clean silver items.

To clean kolusu, this is the method:

Put a teaspoon of baking soda in water, immerse the kolusu and let the water boil for about 5 minutes.

Let it cool. All the dirt will be removed by brushing it well.

When I requested the provision store guy to send 'aval pori', he sent 'getti aval' by mistake. Not willing to return it,

I tried a new recipe. Two cups raw rice, one cup getti aval and one cup urad dhal - all washed and soaked together

in water for about four hours. The nicely ground batter, left aside for six hours, gave crispy golden brown dhOsAs.

Yummy!! :)

Dear Kunjuppu Sir,

The viboothi given as prasAdham is collected in a special container and the viboothi packet

bought in the market is used for cleaning silver items. I hope you can see the difference! :)

Some jewelry shops sell a special powder to clean silver items but I think it should be some ash!

once in a decade or so , one could take silverware to silver cleaning fellows[ not regular jewellery shops] for silverware.

in metropolitan cities they will do it for paltry amounts in two to three hours .

one can sit across the fellows doing it in small shops and the amount is as low as 6 to 7 hundred for couple of kilos of silverware which are normally lifetime collections

of most middle class.

They become as good as new when treated with fire, chemicals and powders .

I went thru this route when these were required for an occassion recently.

We can only clean the black stains on silverware.

But we can't make them look like new! :nono:

The 'new look' needs professional touch! :D

I people I talk about are professional and they also service big jewellery shops.

by going to them directly , one saves on money [ middle man margins] and time and get it done across the table.

it is safer also as it is done in our presence and we do not part with silver vessels

they also set right minor imperfections due to mishandling like dents

i can certify they are as good as original.

of course one has to locate the right fellow which is a matter of chance .

I have done it in delhi and bangalore.

definitely chennai must also have such professionals

OMG! The way threads crop up..... I have to dig this thread from the 6th page! :ballchain:

Krish Sir, you are right! The jewellery shop do the polishing so well that the silver items look brand new!

The charges are per gram of weight. :)

My mom has a tiny MP3 player to listen to slokams. But she had a problem with ear phones. The bigger ones are heavy and the

tiny one provided with the MP3 player slips off frequently. What to do? ............ Idea!

The ear pieces fixed with a thin metal hairband (only Rs. 5) using insulation tape, after widening the distance between ends of the

hairband, enables to hold the ear pieces in place very easily. Of course the hair band hangs upside down!

P.S: Shall try to post the photo soon.

No Sir! Do you know that exchanging old gold for new gives you only about 45% return?

Actually, now I feel that I could have made one more 'choker' with another pendent for my kutty grand daughter without

exchanging the extra piece of that chain!

So, you are a 'Paatti' now. The best title is IDEA PAATTI.:second:
