Even God cannot save this country: Supreme Court
Wednesday August 6 2008 01:03 IST PTI

NEW DELHI: "Even God will not be able to save this country," a fuming Supreme Court on Tuesday said while slamming the government for its refusal to amend the law for launching criminal prosecution against those who illegally occupy official houses.

"We are fed up with this government," the apex court said, adding "They don't have the guts to differ with the opinion of the clerks."

"Even God will not be able to save this country. In India even if God comes down he cannot change our country. Our country's character has gone. We are helpless," a bench of Justices B N Aggrawal and G S Singhvi observed.

The apex court said PILs are being filed before it by people who are vexed with the approach of the government on various issues.

"You complain about judicial activism when you are in power. When you are not in power you come to us for remedy," the bench remarked.

The bench gave vent to its anger as the Additional Solicitor General Amarender Saran bluntly told the court that the Union government has decided not to amend Section 441 IPC (criminal trespass) for prosecuting squatters of government accommodation in the country.

The government took the stance that the existing provisions provided under the Public Premises Act was sufficient to evict those illegally occupying government accommodation. Moreover, it claimed that out of 99,100 government houses only 300-odd dwellings were under unauthorised occupation for which had been made to evict them.

But this did not satisfy the apex court which said the government does not have the guts to take on the offenders.

Kashmir: Appeasement is never good for a nation

Lalit Koul | August 06, 2008 | 15:48 IST

10,000 forest trees are chopped down to build the Mughal road in Kashmir. No one makes a noise.

Acres of land in the Kashmir valley are given to install mobile phone towers. No one screams.

Acres and acres of land in the Kashmir valley are allotted to lay sewage and drinking water pipes. No one objects.

But when 40 hectares of uninhabitable land is handed over to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to provide better facilities to the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, all hell breaks loose.

Why? Because the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board caters to Hindu pilgrims who want to visit the Amarnath shrine in the valley of Kashmir. It is as simple as that.
Politically correct politicians, policy-makers and administrators might try to tell you that it is not about religion, but the fact of the matter is that it is all about religion. It is a design by communal forces within the valley to completely Islamicise the valley by removing every symbol of Hinduism and other faiths from the valley.

Today, these communal forces are preventing the setting up of facilities for the yatra, tomorrow they will even go to the extent of banning the yatra altogether.

The land transfer fiasco has already consumed the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Congress government and is on its way to now adversely damage the state's economy. The fear psychosis has already resulted in a sharp decline of tourists to the valley. Counter-strikes and bandhs announced by the pro-land-transfer parties within the Jammu province have paralysed the life in that part of the state as well.

So far it has been a win-lose situation in favour of communal forces in the valley.

Let us take a hard look at the arguments presented by the locals who opposed the transfer of land:

1. The allotment would have adversely affected the environment around the area. One wonders where these tree-hugging environmentalists were when the same government allowed the felling of 10,000 forest trees to build the 89 km-long Mughal road.

40 hectares of land that was going to be used to provide temporary shelters and night-time facilities to pilgrims was in fact going to help in proper maintenance of the current day waste that actually pollutes the environment. But who can argue with senseless politicians who instigate people to come out on the streets?

2. The allotment is the government's ploy to settle Hindus from outside the state to change the demographics of the valley. Look, who is talking! One has to only go back 18 years in the history and check who changed the demographics of the valley.

Islamic terrorists changed the demographics of the valley by ethnically cleansing Kashmiri Hindus from the valley. I wonder where these we-do-not-want-to-change-demographics-folks were when Kashmiri Hindus were slaughtered and the valley's demographics were altered.
One would like to ask a few questions: a. Is 40 hectares of land enough to settle so many Hindus that it would change the demographics of the valley?

b. By putting this argument of demographic change, are the valley's Muslims implying that Hindus are not welcome in the valley anymore? And I do not mean the Hindus from outside Kashmir. I mean the Hindus from the state of Jammu & Kashmir itself.

What if the Hindus, who hold the state subject certificate of J&K state and are legally allowed to purchase land in any part of the state want to purchase land in the area around the Holy Amarnath? Are the valley's Muslims saying that those Hindus cannot buy the land there and settle down? Is that what they are implying? Are they trying to protect the environment by preventing the Hindus from settling in the valley?
Another argument Kashmiri Muslims present is that the land cannot be allotted to the Shrine Board because Article 370 does not allow anyone outside of J&K to own land. Their argument is that since the J&K governor is the chairman of the board and he is an outsider, this transfer of land is illegal.

How dumb does one have to be to understand that the land is transferred to the Shrine Board which is an institution based in the state of J&K and created by the J&K government. The land is not transferred to the chairman or the CEO of the board per se.

Having touched upon the outlandish arguments of those who oppose the allotment of land, let us look at some facts and the real story:

It was during the first three years of the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-Ghulam Nabi Azad coalition government that the original proposal of land transfer was initiated and cleared. It was under Mufti Sayeed's leadership that his forest minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal and law minister Muzzafar Hussain Baig originally cleared the proposal. It just so happened that due to red tape, the proposal was finally approved by the cabinet when Azad had taken over as chief minister during the second three-year part of the six-year term.
(contd.)

contd..

The same PDP led by Mufti Sayeed was originally okay with this proposal. But as soon as the PDP smelt that terrorist outfits like the Hizbul Mujahideen were not in favour of the allotment of land and realised that it could become a polarising issue to whip up sentiments to garner votes in the upcoming assembly election, it backtracked.

Since it is an election year, the National Conference and other smaller political parties would not let the PDP cash in on this opportunity alone. They jumped into the fray and whipped up sentiments by fooling the local Kashmiri Muslims. And that leaves the Congress. How could the Congress not try to cash in on this polarising issue in an election year?

Azad did not waste any time and revoked his cabinet's decision to appease the Kashmiri Muslim vote bank. He did not just stop there. In addition to revoking his own order, he also effectively disbanded the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Now that is some level of appeasement! That is the real story behind the story.

It is an issue created by Mufti Sayeed to polarise the vote banks. It is his design of playing politics with the religious sentiments of lakhs of Hindus from all over the country.

Now that we know the real story behind the story, how about the Hindu pilgrims who want to visit the shrine and what about their fundamental rights to practice their religion with complete security, dignity and honour?
Isn't it a shame that Hindus living in India, where 80 per cent of population is Hindu, cannot freely visit the shrine and expect better facilities? It is only in India that the majority community has to make all the sacrifices in favour of minorities because our politicians believe in appeasing Muslims at the cost of Hindus.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on a television debate on this issue asked why there is a need for land and new facilities when the pilgrimage has been going on for many years.

Does Omar Abdullah mean to say that there is no need to improve the facilities provided during the treacherous pilgrimage? Is he implying that if the yatris were okay for so many hundred years, then why change and improve the facilities?

I have never heard him say such things with regards to the Haj pilgrimage. Every year Muslims from Kashmir and the rest of the country want better facilities and subsidies for Haj pilgrims. But when it comes to providing better facilities to Shri Amarnath pilgrims, it becomes a sore point for Kashmiri Muslims and their leaders.

Heavy rains, snowstorms, landslides and hostile environment took away 256 lives during the yatra in 1996. And Omar Abdullah has the audacity to promote the status quo!

Some of you might argue that it was not the valley's Muslims, but the political parties and terrorists who opposed the land transfer order and forced people to come out on the streets.

I can buy that argument, but that does not absolve the valley's people from their responsibility? They cannot always support these fundamentalist forces and then at the same time claim innocence.

They did the same in 1989 and in the early 1990s when they either stood as mute spectators or as vocal supporters while Kashmiri Hindus were ethnically cleansed. As a good citizen, it is incumbent upon them to raise their voice against these dreaded forces and stop this madness.

If they sincerely believe in peace, then they need to stand up and reject these terrorist outfits and their masters. Conversely, if they don't, then they are as much party to the madness as the principals and thus need to be held accountable.

Appeasement policies are never good for a nation, particularly for a nation like India that is so diverse in ethnicity and culture. Whether it is amending the Constitution during the Shah Bano case, releasing terrorists during the Rubaiya Sayeed kidnapping case, freeing dreaded terrorists during the IC-814 hijacking or continuing the temporary Constitutional provision of Article 370, all such policies will one day result in the nation's doom.

It is incumbent upon the leaders of the nation as well as the citizenry to be on guard and not allow such appeasement policies to take effect in a nation that is based on the concept of secularism, democracy and fairness to one and all.

'Commercial' renovation or atheistic destruction?

V SUNDARAM | Tue, 05 Aug, 2008 , 04:07 PM
.
We don’t have to go to Kabul or Karachi or Islamabad to see the State-sponsored destruction of non-Muslim heritage structures or objects or places of worship. We can see that happening in Tamilnadu today. In 2001, the Talibans in Afghanistan gave a death sentence to the ancient gigantic Buddha relics of Bamiyan in Afghanistan in these words: ‘All we are breaking are stones.

These infidel statues are insulting to Islam and should be destroyed so that the infidels could never worship them again. These shrines of infidels should be destroyed forthwith and torn down’. These Buddhist relics had withstood the onslaught of centuries and ravages of nature for more than 2000 years. The then UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL ENVOY, Pierre LaFrance, in Kandahar pleaded for the continued existence of these exquisitely carved, beautiful and gigantic Buddhist statues of Bamiyan. The Taliban rulers treated this request with contempt and unconcealed hatred. Thus the Taliban Government destroyed those Buddhist statues forever and ever.

Under an anti-Hindu and atheistic DMK government in Tamilnadu, ancient relics – cultural and religious Hindu relics – are getting destroyed everyday as part of high State Policy. Human hands have brought down the massive and beautiful mandapa situated in the historically famous Varadharaja Perumal Temple at Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu, which has with stood the onslaught of five centuries. This ancient temple was built by the Cholas in 1053 and it is one of the 108 divyadesams or the holy abodes of Vishnu. It is located in that part of Kanchipuram which is traditionally known as Vishnu Kanchi. Vishnu Kanchi has been the home for a lot of famous Vishnu temples, including the Varadharaja Perumal Temple. Ramnujacharya is believed to have resided in this temple.

Nootru Kaal Mandapam in Varadharaja Perumal Temple (God only knows when this will receive the sentence of sudden death!)
Varadharaja Perumal Temple is a huge temple spread over a 23 acre complex. The earliest reference to this temple is in a Pasuram of Boothathazhwar, dating back to 600 AD. Perhaps this temple was a small temple during the time of Pallavas. The temple originally consisted of an image of Narasimha at the foot of a small rocky boulder. Later, a standing form of Vishnu was installed on top of the rock. It was then called Arulalar temple. The village was called Athiyur because there were a number of ‘Athi’ trees around. The temple began to gain prominence in the 11th century, during the period of the Cholas. Kulothunga Chola-I encased the rock and built a structural temple around the standing Vishnu in A.D. 1100. Later by stages, spread over a few centuries, this temple expanded with the construction of several shrines, prakaras (corridors) and gopurams. According to Dr. Nagaswamy, Vijayanagar Emperor Krishnadevaraya (1509-1530) built the present sanctum sanctorum, the Vimana above it and covered it with gold sheet around A.D. 1525. Krishna- devaraya also rebuilt the sanctum of Thayaar (Vishnu’s consort) and the Vimana, and covered this Vimana also with gold. Krishna- devaraya’s successor Achyuthadevaraya built the Kalyana Mandapa on the left side beyond the western entrance to the temple in 1535 AD. This Mandapa is known for its several hundred pillars with intricate carvings of horse-riders, dancers, musicians, and Gods and Goddesses. It is known as Nootru-Kaal Mandapam.

Apart from constructing the exquisitely beautiful Nootru Kaal Mandapam, Vijayanagar King Achyuthadevaraya also built another Mandapa with a few hundred pillars, all hewn out of granite. This was used for conducting temple festivals in the past. Later, it was used as a Goshala, or cow shed. It is this Mandapa that has been pulled down now under the pretext of ‘RENOVATION’ . This Mandapa originally encased a Central Mandapa with carved pillars. This has already been demolished. Broken pillar-members, some of them numbered, lie in a heap. This Mandapa was not touched in any manner during the days of English Rule. I am presenting below two pictures relating to the destruction of this Mandapa in Varadaraja Perumal Temple at Kancheepuram.

http://www.newstoda ynet.com/ images/stories/ columns/sharpsho t/2008-images/ 0508-sun3. gif

The Mandapa of the Varadaraja Perumal temple being demolished.
When this Mandapam was being destroyed, Dr. R.Nagaswamy, former Director of the Tamilnadu Archaelogy Department rightly said: ‘What is happening now is total destruction. They are not dismantling it. They are smashing it with a crane’. I fully endorse his view that it is ‘a thoughtless act of destruction and renovation. The Mandapa could have been cleaned easily, conserved and preserved. The entire Mandapa is in good condition…. The walls are in perfect alignment. It has survived for 500 years without tilting or developing cracks. Except that it has not been cleaned, it is in good shape’.

The Varadharaja Perumal temple was earlier subjected to a bout of cultural vandalism (Dravidian Talibanism!) when the murals of Vishnu, Lakshmi and other Gods in the Hindu pantheon were whitewashed. The surviving paintings have faded or peeled away. They have not been preserved. Thus, the atheist government may be working in a phased manner for the total obliteration of the Tamilian temple heritage and ethos.
I spoke to Shri Ramgopalji, President of Hindu Munnani. He told me that Hindu Munnani activists launched a strong protest outside the Varadharaja Perumal Temple yesterday evening (4 August, 2008 Monday evening).
Shri Ramgopalji also told me: ‘What is happening in Tamilnadu is a total State assault on Hindu Religious and Cultural Heritage in an uninhibited and unabashed manner. Even in the dark days of British Rule, there was no such organised State assault on Hindu Temples and places of worship. Even an unpopular Viceroy like Lord Curzon was a great Champion of India’s Cultural Heritage. It was he who was responsible for the passing of Ancient Monuments Preservation Act of 1904′.

(contd.)

contd..

Lord Curzon who was Viceroy of India from 1899-1905 said: ‘There is no principle of artistic discrimination between the Mausoleum of the Islamic Despot and the Sepulcher of the Christian saint. Whatever is beautiful, whatever is historic and whatever that tears the mask off the face the past and helps mankind read its riddles – these and not the dogmas of a combative theology should be the criteria by which a responsible Government must be guided in its approach to preservation of monuments. I regard the Stately or beautiful or historical fabrics of bygone age as a priceless heirloom, to be tenderly and almost religiously guarded by succeeding generations; and during my administration of the Government of India, no one shall find me niggardly or grudging in the practical realization of this aim’.

I would like to invite the attention of Tamilnadu government to the four-pronged destruction of temple heritage taking place in Tamilnadu with the full connivance and participation of the Department of Religious and Charitable Endowments:

A. Mindless Destruction of Temple Pillars, Mandapams, Prakarams etc. in the name of ‘Renovation’ .
B. Destruction of Temple Walls and Pillars with ancient, precious and irreplaceable of Pallava, Chola, Vijayanagar and Nayak inscriptions.
C. Paintings of Vijayanagar and Nayaka periods are getting vandalized in temples under the cover of ‘white washing’ and such other routine maintenance works. Dr. David Shulman, an Indologist who has studied mural paintings of Tamilnadu has observed, ‘The problem is very urgent. If action is not taken immediately these treasures of Tamilnadu, which are part of the national heritage will disappear’.

D. Many Tamil Brahmi inscriptions have already been destroyed by a mindless approach to the public issue of stone quarrying throughout Tamilnadu.

Talibans in Afghanistan only destroyed non-Muslim structures. We have a government in Tamilnadu which believes in total obliteration of all Hindu heritage in the name of ‘Periyarism’ . The common people of Tamilnadu have already declared themselves against the anti-Hindu and anti-God philosophy of ‘Periyarism’ . The number of common people visiting temples everyday in every district in Tamilnadu has reached astronomical proportions today. No popular government believing in the rule of ballot (not bullet!) can afford to ignore this patent fact.

According to Will Durant, ‘As a result of fanaticism, thousands of temples which had represented the art of India through a millennium were laid in ruins. We can never know, from looking at India today, what grandeur and beauty she once possessed. India before Islam was one of the most advanced civilizations of all time. The Islamic invasion of India was probably the bloodiest story in history’.

It will not be fair to compare anti-Hindu and anti-Rama men like Karunanidhi with Emperors like Aurangazeb. Aurangazeb was a devout Muslim and true to his faith. According to historical records, he prayed to the Supreme Allah in Mecca in the thick of a battle in which he was leading the forces against the Uzbeg Chiefs of North Western India. On the contrary, Karunanidhi has said ‘The word Hindu itself means a Thief’. Against this background, it is highly amusing to read the infantile statement of K R Periyakaruppan, Tamilnadu Minister for Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) to the effect: ‘The DMK led government has been more Hindu friendly than earlier regimes’. The whole world knows today that how very Hindu-friendly Karunanidhi and his DMK Government are, mainly on account of their total commitment to the wholesale destruction of Rama Sethu.

Gujarat riots and the history of incessant Muslim Violence against Hindus

Amarnath Imbroglio Will Bury Islamist Tyranny In Kashmir

Can we allow descendants of Ghauri and Ghazni and followers of Genghis Khan and Osama Bin Laden pollute our environment and subvert our democratic way of life?

A US based Islamist wearing an academic cover has made a vicious attempt to mislead the American lawmakers so as to make a case to deny the travel documents to India's most popular state Chief Minister namely Mr. Narendra Modi of Gujarat for visiting the US . This is despite the fact that Mr. Modi has categorically denied having made any attempts for seeking a Visa to undertake a US visit.

To further spread his venom against India's national leaders he has called Mr. Modi an 'Avtar of Hitler.' The author of this cheap and untrue Islamic propaganda is Mr. Muqtedar Khan, Director 'Islamic Studies, University of Delaware . In this enlightened age a member of thispredatory religion can not be allowed to get away with such slander and diatribe. (Attachment A)

As an honest person Mr. M. Khan should have told the people of this great democracy the truth about the fundamentals of Islam as propounded in the Sira and Hadith which stand for Darul Islam, Darul Ahad & Darul Harab given the numbers of Muslim population in different states. If Muslims are an absolute majority they are required to enforce Darul Islam where non-Muslims are kafirs, therefore, without equal rights. The so-called kafirs cannot practice their religions, pray, preach or display their gods as in Saudi Arabia . Where Muslims are in a hopeless minority they must live in Darul Ahad and must make a deal with the majority and make no demands; and finally when the Muslims are not in a hopeless minority they must conduct subversions and act against all human values to leverage their position in the polity and ultimately rulers and that is called Darul Harab.

1) Political Islam as practiced by almost all of the Muslim countries believes in jihad building and not in nation building. The mobilization of Muslims for a civilizational war and jihad will be relatively easy in Darul Islam. Mr. Khan has attempted to use his arsenal not only to achieve the goal of denying Mr. Modi the opportunity of visiting the US and educating the people about the Islamist conspiracy against Hindus but also to appease the titans of the UPA Govt. whose political energy is utilized in scheming to destabilize the popular and verystable Modi regime in Gujarat. But that's not all - in his capacity as a member of the Islamic intellectual elite and a network Mr. Khan in his own devious and sinistrous way has in fact initiated a renewed civilizational war against Hindus and their leadership and at the same time delivered a message to the keepers of the sleeping Islamic cells in India to gear up for impending jihadi earthquakes and explosions.

2) As a matter of rule, the Islamist propaganda only highlights the public reaction against the extremist Muslims burning of Hindu pilgrims in a train in Gujarat . However, when the sufferings of Hindus as a result of the atrocities committed by the extremist Muslims in India are reviewed it becomes abundantly clear that these extremist Muslims actually are the cause and the culprits of these inhumanities.

To achieve and expand its goals, the expansionist and predatory Islam is universally known for distorting and misrepresenting the facts. Following this general rule Mr. Khan has groundlessly alleged and implicated Mr. Modi's political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in systematic killings of Muslims and burning of their homes and businesses, year after year. He conveniently suppresses the fact that a Muslim mob reportedly attacked and burnt a bogeyof a passenger train, in Godhra, Gujarat killing some 60 Hindu men, women and children returning from a pilgrimage. There was a spontaneous public backlash resulting in riots in Gujarat , and in spite of the immediate response by the authorities some Muslims and Hindus died in the rioting. Some died in the police firing which became necessary in order to control the situation. Instead of stating the facts in an unadulterated manner this Islamist has exaggerated the sad development by turning and twisting it with a view to blame the whole incident upon the Hindus.

Going by their incessant propaganda on Babri Masjid demolition and post Godhra riots the Islamists have attempted to paint a picture of injustice against the Muslims in Hindu India. This falsehood has caused multiple, including psychological, damage to Hindus. Truthfully Islamists must be reminded of the Islamic inhumanities, genocide, kidnappings, loots, arsons, rapes and atrocities committed by their sultans during the last thousand years against Hindus. Above all they must be reminded without mincing words that not even in one single Muslim country in the world do Hindus enjoy equal rights as the Muslims do in Hindu India.

3)A Broad summary of instances of atrocities and injustices inflicted upon Hindus by the Muslims:

a) Genocide of some 50- 100 million Hindus by some estimates during 700 years of cruel Islamic tyranny including Hindu Kush - the worst in the history of mankind, and demolition, vandalizing and looting of tens of thousands of temples and conversion to mosques;

b) They massacred some 20,000 people in Calcutta in August 1946 in three days to force Congress to accept partition against Mahatma Gandhi's declaration of "Partition over my dead body";

c) Massacre of millions Hindus and Sikhs during the partition in 1947;

d) Over three million, mostly Hindus were massacred in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, and the exodus of some 9 million Bangladeshi Hindus to India as refugees in early 1970's, when the Indian army had to intervene to rescue the populace;

e) These self styled Islamist victims have expelled, exterminated and ethnically cleansed the entire Hindu and Sikh populations from Kashmir region since 1989;

f) The recent incessant terrorist Jihadist attacks in various parts of India have cost hundreds of lives.

g) Forcible conversion of millions of Hindus into Islam. In fact 98 % of Muslims in India are a converted lot. A particular note should be taken of the fact that there was not a single Muslim in India prior to 711 AD.

h) Imposition of Jazzia (penalty tax) on Hindus for not becoming Muslims.

i) Thirty million Bangladeshi Muslims have illegally infiltrated in to India thereby stressing India's economy, civil society and posing a security threat.

j) The ethnic cleansing of Hindus & Sikhs in Pakistan where they are now less than one percent reduced from over 23 percent at the time of partition and in Bangladesh where they are now about 8 percent from over 30 percent at the time of partition in 1947.

(contd.)

contd..

4) Relentless Acts of Islamic terrorism:

It may be recalled that after the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on December 13, 2002 there was a massive build up of Indian forces on Indo- Pakistan border that sent an unmistakable message to Pakistan and the Jihadists about the possible severe consequences. Unfortunately, under the UPA regime the terrorists have received a boost courtesy of the appeasement policy, religion based reservations and politically motivated Sachar commission's recommendations. Even after the increased frequency of bombings in India , the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, has refused to activate POTA in the country.

Most recently on July 25-26, 2008 the attacks and bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmadabad , another in Jaipur in May 2008 killed hundreds and injured many hundreds of innocent men, women and children. Over the past years, major terrorist strikes have been engineered by Pakistan-backed Islamist groups in Delhi, Bangalore, Ayodhya, Mumbai, Varanasi, Hyderabad, Malegaon, Panipat ('Samjhauta Express'), Ajmer and Ludhiana, with lesser attacks at a number of other locations.

Earlier, the terrorist attacks on CPRF and in UP courts were a partof an ongoing series. India , a soft state, for the Islamic jihadists particularly under the current governance, had a renewed series of terrorist attacks on Friday, November 23, 2007 when bombs carried on bicycles ripped through courts in Lucknow , Faizabad and Varanasi and killed at least 14 people. This should be taken as the latest warning specifically that Bin Laden, Mullah Omar and Musharraf guided Islamic jihad will not let the Indian Govt. or its judiciary to function against the wishes of the fundamentalist crusaders.

Jihadist terrorist attacks on Hindus and their temples continue in the country. The temples such as Raghunath, Akshardham, etc were specially targeted. In fact Varanasi , the most revered holy city of Hindus , bore the brunt of Islamist terrorist attacks twice. On March 7, 2006, at least 21 Hindus were killed and scores injured in bombings at Sankat Mochan temple and the railway station in Varanasi . Before that, terrorists had made an abortive bid to attack the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. In Kashmir alone hundreds of temples were looted, desecrated, burnt, destroyed and some of them turned into mosques. The latest crisis on Amarnath land issue is also the continuation of the same anti-Hindu crusade.

5) In J&K State Hindu Institutions are being destroyed at an unprecedented Scale:

Muslim protests led by the PDP to deny 100 acres of barren land for setting up temporary shelters for Hindu pilgrims transiting to Amarnath shrine during summer months is a recent example of the Taliban like intolerance demonstrated by the Muslim majority Govt. in Kashmir.

The process of desecration, loot, vandalizing and destruction of temples has continued in J&K under the anti-Hindu Islamic rule through generations with intent to wipe out all traces of religious and cultural symbols of Hindus. These targets, besides the temples, included libraries, schools, universities and ashrams. After the country became free and Kashmir acceded to the Union of India in 1947, the destruction and desecration of temples under the new Islamic regimes wearing secular turbans received added impetus and acceleration.

Temple lands, cremation grounds and other such entities belonging to Hindus were usurped and utilized for expansion of the Islamic populace. The famous Bhairavnath temple of Chattabal , Srinagar was locked up by the police. The judicial case pending in court concerning this temple was never allowed to be decided. Precious lands around Hari Parbat hill, Durganag temple of Srinagar and lands at several Hindu places of worship in the Valley were slowly and steadily turned into lands under the occupation of the Muslim trusts (Maqboozai-Ahali- Islam).

6) The law and order situation in Kashmir since 1986 deteriorated progressively and temple desecration became the order of the day.
The Islamic fundamentalist conspiracy against Hindus received unqualified support from the Pan Islamic Movement and from across the border. Here are some of the glaring examples that defy and shred into a million pieces the tall claims made by the Muslim leaders of Kashmir about their dedication and adherence to nationalism, multiculturalism, secularism, Kashmiriyat and religious freedom.

In 1967, Shivala temple, Chotta Nazar, Srinagar was desecrated. Again in 1984 Shri Hanuman temple at Hari Singh High Street was damaged and in the same year Arya Samaj temple of Wazir Bagh , Srinagar was burnt down.

7) Temples desecrated, damaged and/or shut down in Kashmir from 1990 to December 1992

1. DASHNAMI AKHARA, SRINAGAR
2. GANPATYAR TEMPLE
3. RAGHUNATH MANDIR, SRINAGAR
4. SHIVA TEMPLE , JAWAHAR NAGAR, SRINAGAR
5. HANUMAN MANDIR, SRINAGAR
6. SHIVA TEMPLE , BARBAR SHAH, SRINAGAR
7. JAI DEVI TEMPLE , BIJBEHARA
8. VIJESHWAR TEMPLE , BIJBEHARA
9. SHIVA MANDIR, BIJBEHARA
10. RAGHUNATH TEMPLE , ANANTNAG
11. GAUTAM NAG TEMPLE , ANANTNAG
12. THREE TEMPLES OF LUKHBHAVAN, LARKIPURA, ANANTNAG
13. WANPOH MANDIR, ANANTNAG
14. SHAILPUTRI TEMPLE , BARAMULLA
15. DAYALGAM MANDIR, ANANTNAG
16. BHAIRAVANATH MANDIR, BARAMULLA
17. BHAIRAVANATH MANDIR, SOPORE
18. RUPABHAVANI MANDIR, VASAKURA
19. KHIRBHAVANI MANDIR, GANDERBAL
20. SHIVA TEMPLE , GANDERBAL
21. MATTAN TEMPLE , ANANTNAG

(contd.)

contd..

There have been reports of further destruction of some 39 temples in Kashmir after December 6, 1992 for which FIR were filed. Please note that FIRs on all destruction cases were not filed with the authorities in view of the complicity of the administration and warnings of retaliation against the complainants by the Islamic terrorists.

These examples represent only a fraction of the systematic mass destruction of thousands of temples in J&K after independence of India when the Islamists assumed the total and unfettered control of the state. But now the Amarnath imbroglio is bound to bury the Govt. promoted Islamist tyranny in Kashmir .

8) The facilities for Haj pilgrimage by Hindu India are unmatched - not even the Islamic countries provide such patronage:

India provides an airfare subsidy to more than 100,000 pilgrims selected by the Haj Committee of India who go for Haj annually. According to official figures, this subsidy was Rs 280 crores in 2006 or about Rs 28,000 per pilgrim. Today, with rising fuel prices, this figure would have gone up to Rs 350-400 crores.

For the convenience of pilgrims, charter flights are operated directly from 16 airports in India to Saudi Arabia . Returning pilgrims can transport 10 liters of holy Zam Zam water with them free of cost. At Delhi airport there is a separate Haj terminal. To improve the comfort of pilgrims, Air India has been advised to use wide-body jets in future for their Haj flights.

There is a separate Haj cell in the ministry of external affairs. The Haj Committee of India has its own premises in Mumbai. Similarly the State Haj Committees have their own premises in various other Indian cities. These facilities have been built on land provided by the state governments. Yet the Muslims and their Kashmir government denied a mere 100 acres of forest land for building temporary shelter for Amarnath bound Pilgrims!

For the Muslims however, the Govt. provided accommodation in Mecca and Medina is decided keeping in mind the need to provide maximum convenience and comfort to the pilgrims. Typically, all accommodation has lifts, telephones, running water, electricity and telephone at the minimum. There is total computerization of pilgrim location and movement. During Haj, a large contingent of seasonal local staff, supervisors, data entry operators, as well as drivers and messengers (whose job is to round up and bring home safely elderly pilgrims who may have got lost) is appointed by the consulate general of India , Jeddah, during the Haj period.

For Haj 2007, a contingent of 115 doctors (including 63 specialists with post-graduate degrees) and 141 nurses and other para-medical staff, 3 coordinators, 46 assistant Haj officers, 165 Haj assistants and 186 Khadimul Hujjaj were sent from India on short-term deputation to Saudi Arabia. Special attention is given to medical facilities for the pilgrims.

It is not the Central Govt. alone that has been lavishly spending Hindu taxpayer's money on Haj subsidy -- almost all State Governments have set up Haj houses. In fact, the State Governments across the country spend roughly about Rs 1,000 crore annually for the Haj pilgrims. The government in Delhi is constructing a six storey Haj house at a cost of Rs. 30 crores.

9) Preferential treatment of Muslims by Govt. is unconstitutional:

The official commitment for Aurangzebish, unconstitutional and privileged treatment to the Muslims by Govt. in enforcing the politically motivated Sachar Report, Prime Minister's commitment for first preference to Muslims, his 15 point plan for the Muslims; and enforcing a communal quota system in employment and even at the topmost technical and management institutions - not practicedby any other country is absolutely baffling. Such naked discriminatory policies have the potential of leading the country towards a new dismemberment. The uncalled for and unconstitutional largesse amounts to open bribery and class war, initiated by Congress, for clinging to power.

10) Exaggerated and false Islamic propaganda on Gujarat riots must be exposed:

As stated earlier the Gujarat riots so widely publicized were a spontaneous reaction against the burning of some 60 Hindu pilgrims in a train at Godhra, Gujarat . The highly exaggerated reports about these riots by anti-Indians and Islamists, foreign owned Indian media and their sponsors, hide the fact that the Muslims themselves were the cause and the culprits of this upheaval. There is a concerted effort to defame Hindus and their leaders with the sole aim of Islamizing India and establishing a Darul Islam. How can we ever forget the fact that India was partitioned on the basis of religion, as the Muslim leaders proclaimed that they were a separate nation and therefore, were unable to live with Hindus in a single country? They demanded a country of their own and the British masters readily obliged them.

Mr. Khan and his brand of Islamic society need to do some introspection on their own past violent crusades against Hindus. Using Mr. Khan's language of calling Shri Modi and his party "self styled Hitler and fascists, etc" is rather ironic. By the same token the way Mr. Khan has unleashed his anti-Modi tirade rooted in Islamist thinking, he too could be called "Mr. Goebbels" of terrorists' Goebbels being Hitler's propaganda man. The spate of terrorism in Bangalore and Ahmedabad in India on July 25-26 and the Amarnath Land imbroglio could possibly have been incited by people like him and his recent provocative articles and utterances.

Perhaps US Homeland security should take a note and look into any possible links between his outfit and the terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda, Taliban, and Mujahideen etc. For Mr. Khan's satisfaction the most popular Chief Minister of a progressive Indian state has much to do at home for renovating people's lives including that of the Muslim citizenry of Gujarat . Unlike some self styled leaders he does not need to visit foreign countries with a view to strengthening his political base at home.

11) Mr. Khan and the people of his politico-religious persuasion must realize that by now the curtain has been lifted:

The global community understands their inability and incapacity to coexist with members of other religious formations. The hard core Muslims like him believe that they must live by the Islamic trilogy consisting of the Koran, Hadith and Sira, which are considered to constitute the complete way of life for them. Tragically such a way of life is in direct conflict with democracy and freedom to practice one's religion therefore, the prospects of coexistence in harmony with other religionists is rather unthinkable.
Under these circumstances unless Islam is tamed and/or reformed the continuation of civilizational war would remain a reality. With more than a billion free people of India , exercising freedom in every walk of their lives, unlike in most of the Islamic countries, the 'siege of India' as envisaged by Mr. Khan's Islamists has absolutely no prospect of succeeding. The freedom- loving Indians like Mr. Modi will not sacrifice their liberties and way of life for any amount of petro-dollars and out dated regressive religious philosophy which promises nothing but ideological slavery. Indian people did not accept the slavery of the British imperialism and tyranny of the Muslims sultans and there is no way in hell they will accept the slavery of the fundamentalist wahabies. On the other hand the day is not far away when not only in India but all over the world 'jihad' will be outlawed as a crime against humanity thus putting terrorists, Islamists and fundamentalists out of business.

Centre must keep an open mind

The Sri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading the ongoing protest in Jammu, cannot be faulted for dismissing Wednesday's all-party meeting as "meaningless". In retrospect, it would appear that the meeting, called by the Prime Minister, was meant to provide a platform to Muslim leaders of Kashmir Valley to criticise the protesters and reiterate their communal views under the garb of 'secular' concern. Hence, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah was heard wondering whether his family had done the right thing by deciding to stay back in India after partition while PDP chairperson Mehbooba Mufti was at her shrieking best, hurling invectives at Jammu's Hindu protesters and shedding ersatz tears over the 'plight' of Kashmir's Muslims. Others, not to be outdone by either Mr Farooq Abdullah or Ms Mehbooba Mufti, waxed eloquent on how the protest has turned 'communal' in 'secular' Jammu & Kashmir and similar gobbledygook. Had it not been for the interventions by BJP president Rajnath Singh and his colleague Arun Jaitley, the all-party meeting would have become a conclave for unrestrained Hindu-bashing; since the Prime Minister chose not to set the record straight, we can only assume that this is what he and the Congress had hoped for. Indeed, Mr Jaitley has pithily summed up the crisis that continues to snowball with each passing day: If Muslim-majority Kashmir has a 'psyche' of which we should be mindful, so does Hindu-majority Jammu have a 'psyche', which has been trampled upon in the most grotesque manner by those who insist Jammu & Kashmir is only about pandering to the Valley's Muslims. Governor NN Vohra's astonishing decision to snub Hindu aspirations and ignore Hindu sensitivities, obviously to either please his patrons in Delhi or carry out their instruction, by asking the State Government to cancel the order allotting 97 acres of land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board, as well as divesting the board of its responsibilities, is only the latest instance of Jammu's Hindus being given the short shrift in order to appease Kashmir's Muslims. In a sense, the Amarnath shrine land dispute has proved to be the tipping point. Jammu's Hindus, smarting under Srinagar's high-handedness for decades and tired of brazenly biased Governors deaf to their appeals for justice, have decided that enough is enough: Latent, simmering anger has boiled over into uncontrollable rage.

However, it is instructive to note that the protest in Jammu remains anchored in nationalism; this is in sharp contrast to violence in Kashmir which is firmly rooted in separatism. Faced with an economic blockade, whose merits are no doubt debatable, the Valley's Muslims are looking towards Muzaffarabad and not New Delhi for succour, and threatening to use the Srinagar-Muzaffarab ad highway to transport their orchard produce -- this is sheer blackmail and must be met without any leniency being shown to them. Seen against this backdrop and in the context of the Congress's partisan politics, it is doubtful whether the proposed all-party delegation, led by Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee, will be able to break the deadlock that prevails in Jammu. The protesters have made it abundantly clear that they will settle for nothing less than the land being restored to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board and Mr Vohra being recalled. This is not a maximalist position. If the Government is genuinely interested in an honourable and fair settlement, it should be willing to consider these demands with an open mind.

Jammu (Rome) is burning!

Friday, 08 August, 2008 , 03:30 PM
There is an open public Hindu rebellion against the atrocities of Jammu and Kashmir government. Ever since the government land allotted for the use of pilgrims going to Amarnath Temple was cancelled
0808-sun1.gif
Hum jaan denge aur zameen lenge!Protestors of Shri Amarnath Sangharsha Samiti in Jammuin a peremptory manner by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad (private secretary to Sonia Gandhi in waiting!) just in order to appease the terrorist, anti-national and anti-Hindu Muslims of Kashmir, there has been a mass uprising of Hindus in Jammu. The anti-Hindu and anti-national action of J & K government has created conditions of Hindu rebellion and revolution in Jammu. The peace-loving Hindus of India in absolute majority (a fact not politically recognised by any political party in India) are solidly backing the Hindus of Jammu in their ‘non-violent’ struggle for getting back the land earlier allotted by the J & K government for the Amarnath pilgrims. I am presenting above a graphic picture showing the protestors of Shri Amarnath Sangharsha Samiti on the streets of Jammu. Now why don’t you see this image on front pages of prominent Indian news websites. Either it is hidden in layers, or you see a tricolor-less picture showing a guy throwing stuff at policemen. This is what I call the organised ‘criminal’ bias of the Sonia-Congress embracing pseudo-secular mafia of print and electronic mass media in India!
Thomas Jefferson said, The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure’. I am reminded of this famous saying of Thomas Jefferson when I see the reports relating to the popular Hindu rebellion that has been going on in Jammu in recent weeks. Victor Hugo, the great French writer said, ‘Revolution is the lava of civilization’. If that be so, the Hindu rebellion against the tyrannical attitude of the J & K government can be viewed as the lava of Hindu civilization. In my view this sudden whirlpool of Hindu outburst of the hour and the moment should also be viewed as engulfing the suppressed growth of centuries!

Fiddling while burning

What we are witnessing in Jammu today is a mass patriotic uprising, quite unprecedented in our recent history. Perhaps it is something very much like a second Ayodhya wrapped in the Tricolour, outshining, both in letter and spirit, the 1952 Praja Parishad movement, which demanded one flag, one constitution and one head of the state. Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee came forward to give up his life for this sacred cause. In fact he died in the jail of Sheikh Abdullah, grandfather of Omar Abdullah who gave a beautiful Islamic message recently in Parliament which was soaked with ‘Islamic compassion’ to the peace-loving Hindus of India in absolute majority: ‘Hum Jaan Denge Par Zamin Nahi Denge’ (we will lay down our lives but won’t part with the land). The mass Hindu movement that has erupted in Jammu cannot be controlled by any political party or organisation. And of course it is beyond the control of the ‘anti-Hindu Islamic J & K government’ and the equally anti-Hindu ‘Sonia-strangulated’ UPA government in New Delhi. For the last three weeks, all the roads in every town in Jammu are wearing a dead blank look. All economic and social life has come to a standstill. We have a third grade Sonia-Congress servile page boy holding the post of Governor in Jammu and Kashmir and awaiting instructions every moment from No.10, Janpath in New Delhi. The Hindus of Jammu are out on the streets and crying out to him: ‘Shamelessness on stilts! Vicious anti-Hindu malice on stilts! Thy name is Vohra’. Grandfathers and grandmothers, husbands and wives, uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters are marching together on the streets to get back the land for the Amarnath pilgrims. Their cries of ‘Har har Mahadev’ are renting the air! A callous J & K government under Governor’s rule and equally callous Union ‘overnment under an insipid and surrogate Prime Minister are watching this ugly and lurid drama in Jammu everyday.

I fully endorse the words of Tarun Vijay in this context: ‘And see what the de-Indianised intellectuals wrote on the front pages in Delhi’s newspapers: ‘All over a piece of land!’ Really? Then why are the Indian soldiers defending a barren piece of dead snow in Siachen? Or what’s that piece of cloth known as the Tricolor? Is it worth dying for?’ Such true patriotic feelings are wholly alien to the Islam-embracing and Hindu-hating J & K Government in Srinagar and UPA Government in New Delhi.

(contd.)

contd..

What are the simple facts relating to this legitimate mass agitation in Jammu? The Amarnath Shrine Board was created in 1996 based on the recommendation of the Nitish Sengupta Committee which itself was appointed by the J & K government and not Government of Pakistan! The Government accepted the recommendations of this Committee and decided to create a separate board called Amarnath Shrine Board on the model of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and this was done through an Act passed by the government of Farooq Abdullah in 2000. This fact would clearly show that government had clearly understood that the facilities for the Amarnath Pilgrims were totally inadequate. The Secretary, Tourism Department, was appointed CEO of the board. Till 2003, nothing very much happened. It was only when Gen. SK Sinha took over as Governor in 2003 and hence became Chairman of the Shrine Board that the office of Amarnath Shrine Board was fully established with Arun Kumar, IAS, as its full-time CEO. Kumar did outstanding work by providing the Amarnath pilgrims with livable camping facilities. Earlier, concrete toilets were constructed year after year and this had helped the unscrupulous contractors to make as much money as they wanted every year. When government land for construction of facilities was allotted, the contractors felt threatened by the move and they have played a key role in fermenting a communal agitation against the allotment of land to the Amarnath pilgrims. And subsequently what has happened is well known to the whole world’. When the Islamic terrorists with the full connivance of J & K government (Gulam Nabi Azad [de jure] plus Sonia Gandhi [de facto] took the matter to the streets, it was not viewed as an act of obstruction by the Sonia-congress and other secular parties. Only when the Hindus of Jammu started an agitation to get back the land, the whole movement was viewed as communal blockade by these reprehensible, anti-national and anti-Hindu political parties. And of course the pseudo-secular mafia of mass media in India owing their total allegiance only to 10, Janpath and to no one else, have viewed the mass movement of Hindus in Jammu as a small and minor affray which should not be allowed to disturb the secular polity of Kashmir by deranging its communal harmony!

Hindus in Jammu are crying out : ‘You have died for our tomorrows’

The above picture shows a young man, named Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, who took his life in utter disgust on a street in a city in Jammu after reciting a patriotic poem before the hunger strikers in Jammu. Policemen in plainclothes forcibly took his body away and tried to burn it in his village in the dead of night without even informing his family. A monk saw them burning the pyre with country-made liquor and used car tyres and managed to alert the villagers. The policemen ran away seeing the protesters swelling in number. And none of the so-called champions of human rights raised a voice of protest against the inhuman atrocities of the police. Do these policemen belong to India or Pakistan or Bangladesh? I am giving below a few paras of the poem recited by the great martyr for Hindutva Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, a few minutes before his self-chosen death:

‘Bigul Baj Raha Hain Andolan Ka Gagan Goonjta Hain Naroon Sai’.
‘Mila Rahi Hain Aaj Jammu Ki Miti Nazar Sitaroon Sai’.
‘Ek Baat Kehni Hain Laikin Aaj Desh Key Piaroon Sai’.
‘Janta Sai, Loogoon Sai, Foojiyoon Ki Khadi Kataroon Sai’.
‘Sambal Kai Rehna Apnay Ghar Main Chupay Huyay Gadaroon Sai’.
‘Jhank Rahai Hain Apnay Dushman Apnay Hi Devaroon Sai’.
‘Sanbal Kai Rehna Apnay Ghar Mian Chupay Huyay Gadaroon Sai’.
‘Jago Tumko Dogron Ki Jagir Ki Raksha Karni Hain’.
‘Jago Tumko Lakhoon Ki Takdir Ki Raksha Karni Hain’.
‘Abi Jo Bani Hai Us Tasveer Ki Raksha Karni Hain’.

The message is ‘Be Alert! Be Careful about the traitors who are hiding in your house. These traitors are peeping like sly criminals through our own walls. Wake Up! Be Awake! You have to rise to protect the free hillock that has been given to you by the nation’.
Popular history says that the Roman Emperor NERO was a sadistic, psychotic tyrant who set fire to Rome and then sang and played the fiddle while it burned. The above picture on the left shows Nero playing the fiddle with gusto. The picture on the right shows Sonia and her Son Rahul Gandhi signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Communist Party of China. More than 800 million Hindus of India are clearly seeing the priorities of Sonia Gandhi and her Son today.
To conclude with a moving and evocative poem on the current tragedy of Jammu and Kashmir:
They talk about Jammu
and they are silent about Jammu
Those who talk about Jammu
disapprove of those
who are silent about Jammu
And those who are silent about Jammu
disapprove of those
who talk about Jammu
Talk about Jammu
is lost
in the silence about Jammu
And the silence about Jammu
is lost
in the talk about Jammu.
And time passes
in Jammu
and does not pass!

J&K atrocities

Dear Mr. Saab
Thank you for enlightening us with all the articles about the atrocities being committed against the Hindus in J&K.
What do you think we all should do? Maybe send copies of these articles to the Congress High Command (I was always amused at this word 'high command') and to the Prime Minister? Maybe start a signature petition?

The Shameless secular Govt. can't even decide on 40 acres of land when the Muslim separatists oppose it. How on earth can they defend our motherland?

Arif Khan remembers Kashmiri Rishis’ paradise

They forget their history by Arif M. Khan

The Kashmir Valley people seems to have sacrified their unique culture at the altar of separatism

Kaabe mein budkade mein hai yeksan teri zia
Mein imtiaze dero haram mein phansa raha

(The divine light equally illuminates the Kaaba and the house of idols (temple), but woe to me that I remained obsessed with the differences and distinctions between the two)

(Allana Iqbal)

Jonaraja, the 15th century chronicler of Rajatarangini, has recorded an interesting dialogue between Sultan Shihabuddin (1354-73) of Kashmir and his Minister, Udaysri. The Minister had suggested to the King to melt a grand brass image of the Buddha and use the metal for minting coins. The infuriated Sultan remarked: "The past generations have set up images to obtain fame and even merit, and you propose to demolish them. Some have obtained renown by setting up images of Gods, others by worshipping them, some by duly maintaining them and some by demolishing them. How great is the enormity of such a deed."

The words were the Sultan's, but it was the soul of Kashmir speaking through him. It is a soul that is steeped in the ethos and morality of the Rishi Movement. Kashmiris, regardless of their religious affiliation, revere Lalleshwari (Lall Ded), the wandering Saivaite mystic woman, and Nund Rishi, (Sheikh Nuruddin) the Muslim saint. This Guru -- disciple duo of the 14th century have deeply impressed the collective Kashmiri psyche. Their sayings in simple Kashmiri language are short, sweet, inspiring and laden with moral and spiritual insights and are described as the 'pearls of Kashmiri literature'. Two small couplets could help us appreciate their life-long mission and the humanism they instilled in Kashmiris.

Lall Ded said:

Shiva abides in all that is, everywhere
Then discriminate not between a Hindu and Muslim.

Nund Rishi said:

We belong to the same parents
Then why this difference
Let Hindus and Muslims worship God alone
We came to this world like partners
We should share our joys and sorrows together.

This is the glorious heritage of Kashmir; a heritage rooted in the concept of fellowship of adherents of various religious traditions. It is true that the history of Kashmir mentions about the excesses of Suha Bhatt, an overzealous neo-Muslim minister of Sultan Sikandar, but same accounts show that Rishi Nuruddin boldly stood against 'forced conversions and orthodoxy'. Till date, the name of Rishi Nuruddin commands respect and inspires Kashmiris, whereas Suha Bhatt has been relegated to the dustbin of history.

Anti-Bangladeshi wave in Assam

August 9, Syed Zarir Hussain | Guwahati, The Pioneer

# Cops push illegal immigrants back

# Bengali-speaking Muslims urge caution

Assam is witnessing a massive uprising against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, commonly referred to as ‘foreigners’. The State authorities have stepped up their drive to arrest and push back Bangladeshi immigrants, and student groups are busy identifying suspected foreigners and handing them over to the police.

The spurt in official action against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and anti-foreigners activism follows stinging comments by a Gauhati High Court judge in a recent ruling. “Bangladeshi infiltrators have not only intruded into every nook and corner of Assam, but have already become kingmakers,” Justice BK Sarma said in his judgement, ordering the police to detain and deport 49 foreigners, among them a Pakistani citizen, who had appealed against the ruling of Foreigners Tribunals.

Pointing out how the Pakistani man had entered Assam from Bangladesh and contested the State Assembly election in 1986, Justice Sarma commented, “This can only happen in Assam.” He went on to add, “The day is not far when the indigenous people of Assam — both Hindus and Muslims and other religious groups — will be reduced to minorities in their own land.”

The past week witnessed the arrest of seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in eastern Assam’s Nagaon district after the Gauhati High Court pronounced them foreigners. They were pushed back into Bangladesh through the border point of Mahisasan in southern Assam’s Karimganj district.
But six of them were back in Assam by Thursday. “There is no formal agreement between India and Bangladesh and hence the only way to expel such immigrants is by simply pushing them back across the border,” a senior Assam police officer said.

Even as the State authorities were enforcing the court judgement, in which 61 persons were found to be infiltrators, student groups — including the All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) — also started hounding suspected foreigners. Last week, AASU and AJYCP activists rounded up nearly 50 suspected Bangladeshis from various parts of the State and handed them over to the police.

The anti-foreigners issue has gathered momentum with Opposition parties joining the protest. “Very soon, several Assam districts will be swamped by Bangladeshi Muslims and the State will be ruled by a Bangladeshi Chief Minister,” warned former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Bijoya Chakravorty.

The sudden surge of anti-foreigners sentiment has resulted in apprehension among Bengali-speaking Muslims, who are at the receiving end of the AASU and AJYCP action against non-Assamese daily wage earners. “The victims being picked up by the student volunteers are mostly Bengali-speaking Muslims. This trend is dangerous, to say the least,” warned Hafiz Rashid Choudhury, leader of the Asom United Democratic Front (AUDF), a minority-based political party..

“We want that all illegal immigrants who entered Assam after March 25, 1971, be expelled. But caution is needed to ensure that genuine Indians are not harassed,” he added.

The State Government has also cautioned the Opposition against ‘communalising’ the issue. “It is unfortunate that some parties are trying to dub all Muslims as foreigners. If that happens, even Indian Muslims in Assam would oppose the anti-foreigners drive,” State Government spokesperson and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. “We must defeat such designs. A foreigner is a foreigner, be it Hindu or Muslim,” he added.

The AUDF maintains that action cannot be initiated against religious minorities just on the assumption that they could be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. “We are against providing shelter to any illegal immigrant from Bangladesh. But any action such as pushing back or deporting foreigners must be carried out within the existing legal framework,” AUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said.

The AUDF chief said that the Government must immediately upgrade the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and make arrangements for issuing identity cards to all citizens. “It will help genuine citizens and avoid unnecessary harassment,” he said.

The AASU had led a six-year-long agitation against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants between 1979 and 1985. The movement ended with the signing of the Assam Accord in 1985 which fixed March 25, 1971 as the cut-off date for detection and deportation of East Paksitanis/Bangladeshis staying illegally in India.

AP Govt to pay fee of 20,000 Muslim engg students

Omer Farooq | Hyderabad
The Andhra Pradesh Government will pay the tuition fee of 20,000 new engineering students of Muslim minority this academic year.

State's Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has also sanctioned additional fund of Rs 29 crore to pay the tuition fee of the engineering students studying in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of engineering courses.

This is the first academic year in which the State Government will be paying the tuition fee of the Muslim students of professional courses. "The State Government has allocated a budget of Rs 140 crore towards the payment of fee of the Muslim minority students giving a big fillip to uplift the community educationally," Shabbir said.

He was speaking at the inauguration of International Islamic Book Fair in Hyderabad on Friday. He said apart from paying Rs 30,000 fee for the engineering course, the State was also paying Rs 50,000 fee for the MBBS courses for the students from economically weak families of the community.

"On the whole Muslim students studying in 16 professional courses will benefit from this scheme from this year," he said. Underlining the importance State's Congress Government was giving to provide every possible help to the deserving students, he said, "Now onwards parents will not have to worry about the fee of their wards. The boys and girls of poor families will become doctors and engineers without any problem," he said.

He said that 20,000 Muslim students will be studying in engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh, both in the Government, private and minority institutions. "This is higher than the number of Muslim students studying engineering in all the States of the country," he said.

First of its kind International Islamic Book Fair, will continue for 10 days from Friday. Mohammed Azharuddin, head of the Huda Book Distributors said 30,000 titles on different subjects from all over the world be on display at the exhibition.

Another bomb defused in Surat, total at 25

SURAT: A live bomb was found on Saturday near Amroli Bridge in Katargam area of Surat, taking the total number of explosive devices found from the city to 25 in the last fortnight.

"We have found a bomb from Katargam area. It is similar to the ones that were found earlier. We have defused it," Deputy Commissioner of Police V Chandrasekhar said.

"The bomb squad opened the packet and defused it," he said. The bomb was found outside Lord Hanuman temple which devotees throng on Saturday.

As many as 24 bombs were found in and around Varacha area of the city in last fortnight. All the bombs were later defused. Two cars laden with explosives were also found in Surat.

The only relief for the administration was that none of those bombs exploded probably due to faulty integrated circuit chips.

The police are working hard to find a clue on who planted the bombs in Surat but have not been successful so far in their quest.

Five terrorists reported to be hiding in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 09: In a sensational revelation, intelligence sources have said that five hardcore Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists are hiding in the national capital and may strike at sensitive areas in Delhi particularly during the Independence Day celebrations.

Their prime target is believed to be Chandni Chowk, which is very close to Red Fort, where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour on Independence Day.

The militants may also target busy market places like Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar market, as well as bus and railway stations, said the sources.

According to the information available to Zee News, one LeT militant – reportedly identified as Jaffer - has sent five terrorists via Jammu and Kashmir into the capital. Three of them have been identified as Zahoor, Altaf and Khurshid.

Another person, identified as Ayoub Itoo, is believed to have been involved in supplying necessary materials like RDX and money to the terrorists.

Following the information, all 10 districts of Delhi have been put on high alert. Police has been instructed to conduct random checks in various areas. Cops are keeping a strict vigil in market places, bus and railway stations. Dog squads have also been deputed in railway stations to sniff out dangerous materials.

All the district DCPs have been told to keep a close watch on the movements of extremists and suspects moving in and out of Delhi.

Recently, the Delhi Police had made it mandatory for bicycle buyers to produce document proofs to establish their identity.

The step was taken in view of the use of cycle bombs during Ahmedabad blasts.

In Ahmedabad serial blasts, terrorists had used tiffin boxes on bicycles and placed them in crowded markets to cause maximum damage.

Now, India faces economic terror

10 Aug 2008, 0230 hrs IST, Pervez Iqbal Siddiqui ,TNN

LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: As it reels under the mounting terror menace with the fundamentalist outfits bombing cities to kill and maim innocents, India may also be faced with a grim threat of economic subversion.

A spate of seizures of fake currency notes across Uttar Pradesh with the trail leading towards Nepal has confirmed the fears of what the authorities call 'economic terror'.

While Indian agencies have for long been aware of ISI's plan to bleed India economically, having been engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with the the plotters, the scale and sophistication of the operation has come as a shock to them. After the initial recovery of Rs 5 lakh from one Abid in Doomariaganj in UP, seizures have been reported from all over the state — Aligarh, Lucknow, Gonda and places neighbouring Bihar — leading the authorities to suspect that counterfeit currency adding up to Rs 40 crore may have been in circulation in Uttar Pradesh alone.

But what has stung security agencies this time is not only the quantum of the seizure but the fine printing and high quality currency paper that has been used to print the currency notes and strong evidence of collusion between banks and those working at ISI's instance.

The serial numbers on the money lying in the State Bank of India chest in Doomariaganj were the same as that on the genuine notes kept there. "This explains that the gang members here would first confirm the serial number of the currency notes in the chest and then inform those printing the currency to put the same serial number on the FICN," pointed out an officer of a central agency dealing in economic offences.

A worried UP government on Saturday handed over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation, putting aside its grievances against the agency for the moment.

While it may have acquired serious proportions, use of counterfeit money to attack India's economy is not a new addition to the ISI inventory. Authorities have long had evidence that fake currency notes are printed at facilities set up for the purpose at Quetta in Baluchistan and Bangkok, with Aftab Batki, a known aide of ISI-protected Dawood Ibrahim, handling the operations in the Thai capital.

An official panel had estimated that fake Indian currency equalling Rs 1,69,000 crore has been put in circulation as part of the design to deal a blow to the Indian economy. While serious enough a threat by itself, fake currency is also being used by the terror groups to finance their anti-India activities.

The issue figured prominently in the meeting of state police chiefs and chief secretaries called here on Friday to review the security scenario in the aftermath of last month's attacks on Ahmedabad and Bangalore.

The racket was busted with the arrest of one Abid of Sidharth Nagar after Rs 5 lakh in FICN was recovered from him. Abid named Sudhakar Tripathi, a cashier at SBI's Dumariaganj branch, as his co-accused. Sudhakar was arrested after a total of Rs 7.2 lakh was seized from his residence out of which Rs 50,000 were in FICN.

On the basis of the details extracted by Sudhakar, STF requested the RBI to screen the currency notes available in the chest of the banks particularly in the districts bordering Nepal and some pockets of Western UP as well.

UP STF has confirmed that one of the two accused arrested in connection with the seizure, Abid, was in regular touch with his contacts in Nepal as well as Hong Kong apart from some other countries. "But calls to these two places were much more frequent than others," confirmed a source in the STF who also said that arrested militants, during their interrogation, have frequently spoken of the use of fake currency by ISI.

Another important element of the racket is the money which the two arrested accused have pocketed while pumping in fake currency. "If the gang had actually pumped in the amount which is being estimated at Rs 40 crore, then the profits incurred thereon must be traced on the ground to establish that they were major players in the racket," says a senior IPS officer.

The cops have so far seized fake currency from Shameem, Mehandi and Saleem in Aligarh. Another Rs 25 lakh in fake currency notes was found on Sohail of Gonda who was working with Sanjay Paswan, Vinod Kumar and Sanjay Patel of Bihar. Three persons — Momin, Anisuddin and Pramod — have been arrested in Aligarh.

Sleuths from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are now focussing on the assets of the arrested accused in order to trace the route of the money earned by them during the course of the racket which is believed to have been in place for at least over 1 year in Dumariaganj itself. The known assets of the two accused are estimated to be somewhere around Rs 10 lakh.

HINDUS OF THE WORLD UNITE! STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE HINDUS OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR!

WE ARE UNITED, WILL NOT BEND - Says Jammu!

Jammu is bracing for a long term war. Considering this, they have set up their own community ration distribution system for the weak sections - so that the poor do not suffer from the scarcity caused by the movement. Jammu Traders have proved true to their word as well. An elaborate process of equitable distribution of commodities - free or on credit - has been operationalized overnight.

Community kitchens where free lunch and dinner is served have also come up in every town - all people have come forward to support these kitchens in whichever way - by money or service.
