Some of my favorite Kishore Kumar's melodeous songs.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOaFw6OsDG8&feature=related

Tum aa gaye ho, noor aa gayaa hai...You had come, the "light" followed..

YouTube - ‪Kishore & Lata - Hamein Aur Jeene Ki - Agar Tum Na Hote [1983]‬‏
Hamen aur jeen ki chaachat naa hoti, agar thum naa hothey...I would have not had further desire to live, if you would have not been there...

YouTube - ‪Hindi Song - O Mere Dil Kay Chain - Kishore Kumar‬‏
O mere...Dil ke chain...Chain aaye mere dil ko dua kee jiye...O peace of my heart, May my heart have the peace, wish me.

YouTube - ‪VERY POPULAR INDIAN BOLLYWOOD SONGS - AATE JAATE KHOOBSURAT - KISHORE KUMAR‬‏
Aate jate khoobsurat awaara sadkoan pe, kabhi kabhi ittefaq se ithne anjaan log mil jaathe hain, unme sey kuch log bhool jaathe hain, kuch yaad rah jaathe hain.

On our way as a beautiful wanderer on the roads, sometimes by chance such strange people we come across, out of them we forget some and some remain in our memory

Some of the best songs of Lata Mageshkar, I like the most..

YouTube - ‪Hindi Song - Jane Kyun Log Mohabbat Kiya - Lata Mangeshkar‬‏
Jane kyoun log muhabat kiya karthe hain, dil ke badale darde dil diya karthe hain...Dunno why people love, in excahnge of heart give a painful heart.

YouTube - ‪Shisha Ho Ya Dil Ho song Lata Mangeshkar by Manshah‬‏
Sheeha ho yaa dil ho...Aakhir toot jaatha jai...Whether its glass or heart, ultimately it gets broken...

YouTube - ‪zindagi pyar ka geet hai - by LATA MANGESHKAR‬‏
Zindagi pyaar kaa geeth hai..Issey har dil ko gaanaa padega...Zindagi gam kaa saagar bhi hai..haske us paar jaana padega

Life is the song of Love, every heart has to sing this..Life is also a ocean of sorrow..have to go to the other side with smile.

YouTube - ‪Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi - Kishore & Lata - [Azgar Khan]‬‏
Tere bina zindagi se koi shiqwa nehi...Have no complaints with my life, without you.

Thank you Renukaji and Dr.Anandi ; I liked the songs.

I shall now give you two melodious songs from the film ' seema ' :

YouTube - ‪Tu Pyar Ka Sagar Hai [seema] 1955 www.hotfile.com.pk‬‏

YouTube - ‪Rafi - Kahan Ja Raha Hai - Seema [1955]‬‏

I am sure Ravi sir will enjoy it.

Shri N.R.Ranganathan,

I enjoyed both these songs, full of deep menaings, fully engrossed...

But, I didn't enjoy you calling me "Ravi sir". I will be very happy if you just call me "Ravi" :)

Dear Ranganathan Sir and Ravi bhai
Thank you so much, both songs are so meaningful. I really enjoyed listening to both. Please listen to this song, when I listen to this song, I go back to my kolattam days during Navaratri... In our gramam, we girls assemble in one mama’s house and do kolattam n Kummi. The elder mami of our gramam will sing and teach us too. The experience of these extracurricular activities one get from the village life is really unexplainable. Those experiences helped me to share few steps of our types of kolattam in my School; the land of Ras Garbha. But the Guajarati’s’ are superb dancers of Garbha and Ras Garbha. No one has to teach them; even a 2 year old will start those steps when you play the songs. Fantastic people. Down the memory line is very thrilling to share with you all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFaHXnpFhSo&feature=related

Dear Ranganathan sir, if you can call me Anandi that will be more affectionate.

Thank you Ravi. Is it ok ?

And thank you also Anandi. You are living in a city where I lived for
nearly two decades, and even now I visit my friends at least once a
year. I was one of the founders of Tamilian society, which was of
course short-lived. Around four hundred south indians attended the
opening day function . Then the interest faded away with the
important founder-members going out of Ahmedabad one by one !

Regards,

Dear Anandi

I can really appreciate the work (re: dance) that you are doing being a dancer myself!

Just last week my daughter got bored and asked what shall we do! I replied - 'ம்ம்ம், நாம எல்லாம் சேர்ந்து கும்மி அடிப்போம்' in a sort of sarcastic tone. She replied, "What is that mummy?".

I danced/enacted what it means and also told her that when we use the hands it is Kummi and when we use the 'Koolattam' kattai, it is Koolattam aka. the Garbha dance!! (Hope I am not too wrong except that in Garbha dance they dance too... fast at the end!)

One cute youtube video that I found representing the Kummi song - YouTube - ‪Kummiyadi Kummiyadi‬‏

Kind regards

Dear Ramanathan Sir,
So happy to hear that you were in Gujarat. Here I didn’t hear about Tamil Samajam, but Malayali Samajam is in full swing and I am a member of that.. I do attend Gujarati Brahmin’s community functions sometimes. We are in a Secular Country which has importance of National Integration.

Dear Valli,
Oh, Thank you so much dear, very cute and nice. I became very nostalgic. In all Ilayaraja sir songs, we will get the fragrance of village life, his songs contains the essence of village life. In almost all of his music one kummi touch song will be there. Am I right???

You are right dear Anandi!

I have this one song which is a perfect song to be simulated to a Garbha song!!! - YouTube - ‪Sridevi, Kamal Haasan - Manja Kulichu - 16 Vayathinilae‬‏

Regards,

NRR,

the ahmedabad tamil sangham, atleast one version of it, was very active in the 60s. it was a tambram dominated one.

one of my relatives, ss ananthakrishnan, aka pitchai, was a secretary. whenever he or any other member visited tamil nadu, they used to buy a large number of tamil books from higginbothams in madras of that time. :)

i am not surprised, with the internet, and general attitude of the younger generation, to identify more along the lines of social interests, the tamil sangham with its emphasis on tamil, just fading away.

even the delhi tamil sangham schools are now run by the government. not sure how the bombay tamil sangham is doing. they used to have schools and colleges too.

Dear Mr.Kunjuppu,

Do you mean Mr.Ananthakrishnan who was Registrar of Companies ,Gujarat ?
If so I know him and his family members closely.

Thanks for your info. I was in Ahmedabad from 1978 onwards.
