Dear Lakshminarayanan,
I fully agree with you. Unfortunately our practices/ rituals have no support documents that are available easily. The present generation need proof for each and every thing. If we say, this is what my father taught me, who in turn was taught by his father and so on, they pooh pooh everything. Will anybody inform of any written materials for the practices/rituals.
R.Ramaswami

Dear Mr. Ramaswami
Practices / rituals mentioned in your message is a general term. For instance srardham, samskarams like upanayanam, seemandam are supported by texts published by various persons quoting from vedas and sutras. Rituals like ganapathi homam, navagraha homam are by tredition and the family customs are being followed. So there has to be some element of belief in what the previous generation had done and taught to us and need not look for authentication or proof Belief is most important and can be supported by printed materials
