Heartiest welcome Sir. Veshti & Jibba is our dress. Why should we feel shy. Kudumi is indispensable for
every brahmin community. Do muslims feel shy to wear pardha or a cap. Similarly Sandhyavandhanam is
our basic need to be performed daily.

Wish you all the best Sir to be in this forum. Kindly share your valuable views. I am also from your area
hailing from Srivanjiyam, studied in Nannilam, Tiruvarur, Thiruvidaimarudur, Kumbakonam, etc.

North Parur & Chandrasekharapuram in Kerala

Hi! I am Sudarsh (Sudarshan actually but someone else has taken that name, therefore Sudarsh and officially V.Narayan Swami) from Madras, employed as an executive. We are from Ponani (father's side) and North Parur, both in Kerala, though I was mostly raised in Madras and Madurai for some time. The families were originally from Tarakkad (father) and Chandrasekharapuram (mother's family) and, still earlier, believed to be from Agaramangudi near Thiruvaiyar and settled in Kerala perhaps 250 years back if not 4- 500 years.

I am trying to find out more about my mom's ancestry, specifically my great great grandfather, one Ranga (short for Ranganatha) Jatavallabhar who lived in Chandrasekharapuram, took Sanyas in late life and is thought to be in Samadhi or Brindavan in Chandrasekharapuram (which place I visited recently and can tell you it is extraordinarily beautiful). My maternal great grandfather (Rang JV's 2nd son) was Govinda Shastrigal (also known as Rama Shastrigal but, officially, Chandrasekhara Shastrigal) who settled in North Parur after serving as a Sanskrit teacher in the Maharajah's academy in Trivandrum (he also taught Sanskrit & Maths to Shri Moolam Thirunal).

Any help from Parur or Chandrasekharapuram folks will be welcome and I will update the site on my further findings if any.

We do know the history or story of my dad's Tarakkad / Ponani family from about 1825 or 6 generations including myself (plenty of docs, anecdotes and a desk top book written by my cousin based on these sources). All the Best.

Dear All
I am so happy that our Kuladeivam Kaliamman has brought me to this site. I am a 62 old non-brahmin (Kongu Vellala Gounder) who has the highest regards for Tamil brahmin community and who had been immensely benefited by them. I did my graduation in a government college in Kerala (Tamilnadu and Kerala border) and my close association with the brahmin community happened those days. It all started with Hari, my classmate coming from one of the 'gramams' there. Hari was a brilliant boy but from the most humble background. His father was a temple priest earning a meagre some but that family of five (three children and parents) lived the happiest life. In the first week itself Hari took me home and they accepted me as one of their family members (without bothering to know my caste and even after knowing my caste their love and affection remained the same) As soon as I joined college I put on 'mala' to go to Sabarimala and made an arrangement with Hari to go to Bhagavati amman temple located near the 'thara' accompanied by Hari. The first day when I reached the temple from my hostel at 5.30 a.m. Hari was there and after the worship he took me home for a cup of coffee. When the door was opened we saw an old lady covering her head with saffron saree and the moment she saw me (I am a fair complexioned one and imagine in that age , bare bodied with a small beard, wearing rudraksha and black mundu appearing before her) she fell on my feet. My eyes still get filled with tears whenever I remember this incident. It was his grand mother visiting them after a gap of a few months. I was shocked by this and expressed my displeasure to the family but the granny justified her action saying that she saw Ayyappa Swamy in me. I lost touch with Hari and his equally brilliant brother and sister after a few years. All of them would have reached high positions in their career and would have looked after their loving parents. I had the good fortune to associate with many individuals and families like Hari and his family throughout my life. This has made me oppose many misconceptions about the community and I have been doing this in private and public sphere. It is unfortunate that we don't have a healthy dialogue on caste and sites like these will go a long way in addressing this issue. I hope I am accepted by the community just as Hari's family did 44 years ago. We have too many issues to share with each other. Thank you.
