K Venkat Raman

Kathiramangalam is near Aduthurai/Kuttalam. I think Vanadurga temple is famous in the village.

Please go to Aduthurai and visit Bodendral Adhistanam at Govindapuram near Aduthurai. Bodendral, one of the earlier acharyal of Kanchi Mutt, attained Jeeva Samadhi at the banks of Kaveri at Govindapuram. Facilities are available for stay as well food.

Probably the mutt people at Govindapuram will be able to help you with your ancestral roots.

All the best

I hail from Village Varagur near Thiruvaiyaru where the Great Sage Sri Narayana Theertha Swamigal composed Tharangini and attained Mukthi after receiving Viswaroopa Darshanam. Even today at our native place we celebrate Uriyadi Urchavam in a grand manner. All varagur origin people where they are presently will visit and participate in this. In our village we have two Gothram Sangrithi and Bharadwajam. We used to call Sangrithi Gothram people as Kaurava Kootam and Bharadwaja people as Suri Kootam.

IN OUR TEMPLE ALL URCHADADIGAL AND FESTIVALS WILL BE CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. ALMOST EVERY DAY SWAMI KALYANAM WILL BE PERFORMED SOME OR THE OTHER DEVOTEES. EVEN TODAY WE CONSIDER OUR PERUMAL AS :KALIYUGA KADAVUL". THEERADHA VYADHIYAI THEERTHUVAIKUM KADAVUL.

Introducing myself

My name is Swaminathan and I am born and brought up in Thiruvaiyaru and am son of Sri Pakshi Iyer (hotelier in 30s and 40s). After matriculation from SRHS I had to start out to support my family. Worked in Salem, Dindigul, Mettur and in the early 60s came to Bombay and here I am (now) in Dombivli for the last 48 years. I am past 70 and have my wife, a son and daughter. Seriously looking for an alliance for my son from Tamil Brahmin Community.

VK Swamy of Varagur

Varagur is famous for "Uriyadi" performed on JanmAshtami. What with the oiling of the 'kamba' to defeat the yadavAs from climbing to the top for fetching the prize. I had witnessed the performance one janmAshtami. A very united village near my native, Thiruvaiyaru.:gossip:

kindly give me your email id i will send all the details of my daughter and let us hope something comes up....sagribow@yahoo.co.in

Mostly brahmins in THILLAISTHANAM belong to Kousika Gothram. Do you know my GF Mr T.S.Krishna Swamy Iyer of Thillai Sthanam ?

I know Thillai Sthanam as I had a few classmates - Iyengar, Telugu boys . SRHS school teacher Sri Krishna Iyengar (maths) who would repeat every thing 3 times, including his phrase "I will not tell more than once". I do remember a name "Panchu Bhagavathar" who was familiar to my father (Hotel Pakshi Iyer) and infrequently he had visited our house at North Street. The Things I remember of him are that even beyond 75/80 he would eat substantial qty of ghee (for all that he was frail but healthy) and after "payaththam paruppu payasam", beautifully sing a Keerthana. I doubt the name you refer and I mention is one and the same. Any way all the best with peace.

Dear Iyyarooran Uncle :

Thanks for your reply and complimented about my village. I came to know that you are on the look out for a suitable alliance for your son. Pls. send me the details of your son. I have a girl in my family and let us hope for the best.

Check with your `thayathi' people about their `kula devatha', gothram' etc. I hail from Kaveri belt and my village people migrated to Payyanur near Kannur and Nellayi near Trichur. After few decades, we were able to trace the origins and also possible families in our village through `gothram' link.

It is possible to find out origin with the above links.

All the best

thanks for the reply and the direction to find the link.infact, our kuladeivam is sree parakkat bhagavathy at kavassery near alathur, palakkad dist.gotram is kaundinyam.i only remember about my grandfather who lived in kunisseri village of palakkad dist but later shifted to calicut.how to find the earlier generations?
