Dear Sangom

No it will take a long time for the nation to get tolerant about others. I was born in Mumbai and brought up in Puthu Delhi and Dehradoon. I was the only stupid South Indian studying in a Hindi School(K.V) courtesy my parents. They always fighting with each other. I was more exposed to the Aryan culture than my tamil culture. எனக்கும் நறிய ஆசைகள் இருந்தது. ஜோசிகர் told your son has tremendous talent in music. But I never received any training since my parents never thought about it. I didnt knew tamil script(my தாய மொழி). I wish I attended any Vedic discourse. But now I don't have any time. But thanks to internet I have downloaded primary school books from tamil virtual university website. எனக்கு திருக்குறள் தெரியாது. From My experience of living in Puthu Delhi I think they basically do this coz they can't understand a thing of what we say. But I'm determined to converse only in tamil, Watch tamil channels, browse net about vaishnavism, great tamils etc etc. எனக்கு தெரியும் தமிழ் கல்ச்சர் ஒரு கடல் போல ஆனால் I have made a beginning.
Dear Ramanujan,

From what you have written I think you are a youngster, at the starting point of life; I am, on the contrary, at the other end! I would like to state in the beginning itself that what I give below are just my experiences in life. They may or may not hold good now. Anyway, entering into an argument is the last thing I want. (I had, unwittingly, done so in this forum - as you can very well find out for yourself - but now it seems to me that such arguments do not benefit anyone.)

While I agree that Tamil Culture is an ocean, in my view many other cultures (if we may denote them with such a word) are also equally vast and fascinating, if you gain proficiency in the language, live with the people concerned and understand their customs, traditions, mythology, etc.

I would therefore suggest that you approach life with an open mind and try to assimilate as much of this world as you can. It will show you a new dimension of this world.

Bharathanatyam and Saastriya sangeetham

Pranams to all.

I am Prof.A.Gopalakrishnan and I am now familiar to all those who are connected with performing Saastriya Sangeetham and Bharathanatyam in Chennai. Retired now long from Insurance company, I have now dedicated myself for promoting the Sabha 'Ganamukundhapriya'.

I just starting some interesting threads in this forum but find it very difficult to respond continuously to the subsequent postings. But I find responses invigorating and interesting.

I am not clear as to why my photograph is not being displayed with my postings in this forum! I have submitted in it in my profile.

Hi Radhika,

welcome to this forum. from what little you have given us in your profile, i find that you are a responsible care giver, taking care of two humans other than yourself or your own children.

re needing trusted friends - friendship is a bond, that is built and strengthened over time. it involves trust, acceptance, giving, and above all, a feeling of mutual satisfaction between the two interacting entities.

i am not so sure, that this will come at the blink of an eyelid.

friendships can cross caste, gender, religion, nationality. true friendships are the matching of minds and interests, and necessarily, of the same caste. though similar bringing up and experiences would go a long way in cementing friendship.

do not confine yourself just to brahmins. best wishes in your search for friends. i am quite sure there are a handful out there, waiting for a person just like you. :)
