Hello,

I am Chakravarthi residing in Chennai. We all are aware of the pathetic state of brahmin community, which is gradually disappearing, with the present generation getting obsessed by the western culture and life style. Added to that is the commercialization of the services for vedic rituals, with the greed gripping the few adhyapakas and sastris, who would do anything for money and distort, cut short all the written procedures and mantras and slokas etc. In such a scenario, it is heartening to see some noble volunteers coming forward to create web sites of this kind, which contains many treasures of information on the vedic rituals , worship etc. This will undoubtedly serve as a guide who sincerely seek to learn and follow the cherished principles of our culture and tradition. I am not against any culture or tradition. All I wish to say is know every thing , learn every thing but be your self and uphold the values, culture, traditions, practices of the clan which you belong to and preserve it, while respecting others. This forum is a great one and I am sure this will be a platform for propagating the values of Hinduism in general and brahminism in particular.
With regards to all

Can any one guide me to the procedure for performing abdapoorthi ayush homam function (if possible Iyengar sampradayam- only if possible or else any common procedure is ok). I would be grateful is some one can provide me the source of information on that, which gives all the details including the Mantras/slokas from the beginning of the function to the concluding jayati or aseervadam process.

Regards
Chakravarthi

Hello to the Community

It is a pleasure to join the community. Let me introduce myself. Past, it is said, is over and done with and is no more a reality. Future is mere speculation beyond our control. I will, therefore , stick to not too distant past and not too much in to future. Three years back when I retired after 36 years of work two questions became critical. When does learning stop? and Should learning have an end objective? On the first one there is generally agreement that one can learn at any age as long as the desire is there. As for as the second opinions vary. Through most of my career I was involved in traditional training and towards the last phase of my career, with development in technology, eLearning or online learning looked to be the future of learning. Desire grew in me to learn to design and develop eLearning modules. This meant learning graphic design, web design, animation which all come togetehr in developing eLearning in an engaging way. A tall order even for a youngster. I decided to dive right in and have been at it for the last three years using online resources which are surprisingly plenty and I have set myself time limit of another two years to become competent enough. With out the pressure of time, career or earning a living the process has been an unmitigated pleasure, more so, because whilst learning I can also listen to carnatic music (on the computer) which is my other passion. I am also quite committed to regular work outs like walking, yoga and swim for physical fitness and meditation to keep my mind calm and composed. I also spend at least an hour post dinner reading classics, light fiction or business magazine. All these keep me happily busy that I do not find time at all for TV which is not bad.And now the question is - is it worth spending time and effort on learning just because it is enjoyable!!May be some of you are undergoing the same experience as me and sharing it will help us to motivate each other more.

Looking forward to a happy and fruitful engagement with the community.

Shri Ananth,

My answer to your doubt will be "depends on the person". Since you have clearly indicated that for you it is enjoyable, I will say that you should practice it. But a stage can (and probably will) come as one ages, when our faculties will turn out to be less and less cooperative. Hence we should also be prepared to adjust to that stage when learning turns difficult and should then learn the lesson that "learning has become difficult for me now" and we should be able to feel happy with that learning. That is life till the very last breath, imho.

I am younger to you but I hope you dont mind me sharing my thoughts here.
I feel learning never stops and most of us feel learning is pure academic but we learn most not from text books but rather from daily experiences.
When we say "we learn" most of us are looking for results which may differ from the expectations and thats when disappointment comes in.
Let learning be like our breath..no one teaches us how to breathe but this most important act for sustenance comes with no human teacher.

I feel just let each day be a new page in the book of our life and don't stop to think was it worth the effort.

Have fun and be happy.

Just joined this group today. Grew up first 20+ years in Chennai,

Am part of a group (Rudralaya) learning Vedic chanting for the last
few years. Found this site when searching for the text and meaning
of some suktams. Will lurk for some time checking out all the discussions
before venturing to contribute from my side. best wishes to all- Siva.

Hello!

Hello! I am R.Krishnan studied in SIES school, Matunga presently working in Goa. I am very happy to join the portal of Tamil Brahmins and I see a wealth of information in this site.

Namaskarams.
My name is Prakash Krishnan. I am from Kadayanallur (Thirunelveli Dt). After spending 10 years in the busy life of Mumbai, last year I moved to Germany with my wife & son. Though I am closely related to the Bhagavathas from Kadayanallur, my search for "meaning of life" started only now (may be because of exposure to the western life style and time availability???). While searching on Sanathana Dharma, I came across this website. I am glad to join and to know the views and meaning about our culture.
Krishna, Krishna, Krishna.
