I admire Modi for all the above. My reservation is only in regard to his style of functioning/governance. It looks as though he considers people will look at him as something of a messiah. That seems ludicrous.

True for vote gathering purpose. If somebody is clean and truthful, why resort to gimmicks? That itself shows 'some other' intentions. Am I right?

This is like the so-called saints with different 'styles' resort to magic, calling themselves avatars etc. If they are truthful and indeed an avatar, is it necessary to show those magic?

Bail hearing deliberately set for Friday so that it canbe denied & the fallout contained during the weekend.

It is time for the key regional parties to come together& form a third front, so that they can control the politics at the centre.

If they remain separate, they will all be decimated !!

Exactly!!! - This cannot be a mere coincidence.
This is why I keep asking, are the judges fair and truthful?

Modi critics can chew this and derive more pleasure in counter chewing. This is from private mails among old boys network of tambrams. Many seniors from industries too have voiced a perceptible change in work culture.

See this thread about jaya has shifted to modi - that is modi effect. Perhaps maharashtra results will give more aval for munching!

Subject: Recent Modi Effect in Railways..
To:
Recently I met a senior engineer (my distant relative) from Western Railway, who works at Mumbai Central. Neither he nor me are biased in any way., but when I casually asked him if there was any change in work culture in Railway dept after the new Modi Govt has taken over.

His reply was;

"Earlier people were very casual in coming to office. Now we have the time keeping machine and right from GM to peon everyone has to come to office in time, you reach half an hour late, and you loose one CL. Very soon there will be Bio-Metric ID sensing time keeping machines installed.

We had received circulars (on e-mails) to destroy all records which are 10 years or more older. Time frame was given 30 days. Make space in office to move around. Keep all future records on computer, use as less paper as possible. And we have cleared all those files.

We also received circular for clearing earnest money of all vendors in 60 days. There were hundreds of file pending clearances. We had to search the hair, locate the vendor co, to pay or clear their dues. All files are now cleared.

We also received notifications, asking the details to be submitted about projects not completed in schedule time, reasons for not completing, steps being taken to complete, new time frame, resources needed for the same. In earlier, Govt nobody bothered for pending issues.

We have been asked to furnish details of all major railway stations, on whose platforms roof the solar panels can be fitted. We have supplied a list of 50,000 sq ft area just only in Mumbai Central jurisdiction. All these will be covered in just 1 year.

He finally said, there is suddenly lot of space to move around and we feel better to work now.

He also indicated that this is what is actually happening in all PSUs"

Of course these are just a few sample things he remembered.

A government for 1.25 billion cannot be a one-man show

Collective decision-making must for good governance.

Narendra Modi at at his swearing-in ceremony as India’s 15th PM at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 26 May 2014.PTI

Governance is a group activity
It is early days yet. Less than five months in the life of a new government elected for a full five-year term can hardly justify a considered judgement on its performance. Besides, Narendra Modi is not only new to the Prime Minister's Office, but he is also new to the capital's labyrinthine political-bureaucratic establishment. Modi deserves time and understanding before a verdict can be passed on his prime ministership.
Yet, even in the brief while he has been in the saddle in New Delhi one clear trend may be already discernible. In one word, it is his tendency to play it solo. We have said it before in this space and we have no hesitation in saying it again that all politics is a group activity. However strong and popular the team leader, and Modi, it must be acknowledged, is both at the moment, he still requires a large number of people to manage the ship of state.

[TD]The PM cannot be the one and only leader in government. He would gain immensely if he were to consciously become the foremost leader in a Cabinet full of other leaders as well. Collective leadership, with the Prime Minister at the helm, will broad-base decision-making.

To take that analogy about the ship further, the larger the ship, the grander the ship, the more the number of crew required on board — and a good back-up team on the ground as well — to ensure smooth sailing. The captain cannot concentrate all control in his own hands and expect that everything will run smoothly. He will have to necessarily delegate to trusted colleagues and allow them a say in the decision-making process. Otherwise, the ship will hit a huge rock and damage itself and, with it, the passengers and crew on board.
Modi seems happy keeping his ministerial team to the barest minimum. While it is easy to understand the negatives flowing from a legion of thwarted ambitions within his own alliance, the real danger lies in under-providing for the leadership of the huge number of ministries and departments. Without competent ministers who feel empowered enough to frame policies and take initiatives in their specific spheres, Modi will find it hard to manage the country with all its myriad problems and challenges all by himself. Criticism that he relies on a couple of his aides in the PMO, rather than on his ministers needs to be nullified by offering empirical evidence that he is not a control freak.
He may rightly have an innate trust in his own capabilities. He may well be a superman among ordinary politicians but, we are afraid, without sharing power with his party men, without allowing them to provide independent inputs into the decision-making process there is every danger of the government developing a tunnel vision. As they say, the buck must always stop at the Prime Minister's desk, but before it does it ought to have travelled a couple of desks below. Nearly a 40 lakh-strong payroll with additional 50 lakh in the Central PSUs cannot be led by the PMO alone.
To put it bluntly, the PM cannot be the one and only leader in government. He would gain immensely if he were to consciously become the foremost leader in a Cabinet full of other leaders as well. Collective leadership, with the Prime Minister at the helm, will broad-base decision-making and help end the growing centralisation of power in the PMO. As things are, faceless officials in the PMO have a greater role in decision-making than some of the senior ministers.
Modi may not feel obliged, but because it is human nature to expect a share in the pie — especially when one claims a role in its making — sooner than later his own version of "ekla chalo rey" act might begin to recoil on him. Even blanking out the entire media from official access could prove costly when the tide of popular opinion turns against him.
And even if he does well as PM, which at least we are certain he will, it would be hard to prevent the usual anti-incumbency from setting in. And when it does, he will find himself friendless because at the peak of his popularity he chose to concentrate all power in his hands. He may well have survived as the "only man" in the Gujarat Cabinet. In Delhi, he needs to surround himself with well-meaning and intelligent men and women who will further bolster his strength and help provide purposeful governance to fulfil peoples' huge expectations. Being distrustful of colleagues and supporters can only cause them to be alienated. He should avoid that sad denouement to his excellent political journey thus far.

What prevented the Madam from finishing the case quickly instead of dragging it on for 18 years ? Might be she thought that Govt to be formared at the Centre in 2014 parliamentary elections will be short of majority and she can supply numbers to them povided they go soft on her cases but thank God , Modi got the absolute Majority and in Politics there are no permanent friends / enemies and now that Modi has absolute Majority they deiced to strike madam where it pained her most and her assett case proved very handy for them and they just accelerated the process without much delay . BTW madam should not also complain as these were the same tactics that she deployed to handle others .
There is a saying " Politics is dirty and Indian Politics is very dirty but the beuaty of Indian politics is that it can humble even the most dirty of the politicians ". Right now Madam is humbled and who knows in future Modi can also be humbled .

As the common platitude goes "what you sow is what you reap", I am sure everybody will get their turn.

True. Top class lawyers can argue but winning is a different story. Center (Modi) has to pass the judgment. :-)

Why did Madam drag and delay till Modi came to power ? Might be she cacluated that Modi will not get a Majority and whoever forms the Govt at Centre will need the support of AIADMK and she could use that support to dilute and slowly destory her assett case . If she thought that she was too smart then she must remember that life is much more smarter and will put all your calculations into the dustbin .

There are stories doing the rounds about how she belittled the BJP in the local body elections by buying over BJP candidates..May be Modi was shown evidence and this came as a God send to BJP to teach her a lesson! Everything is possible! The true story will not be known! Only conjectures for you & me to ponder!!

why Ram Jethmalani is not appearing for her in SC ? why Harish Salve withdrew ? Something to think about. Of course Fali Nariman is very good.

What a coincidence! The same Fali Nariman appeared for Acharyas in the Supreme Court. Acharyas may be smiling.
