There are even some scientists who don't agree that AGW is real or if it is happening, it is no big deal. But they are in the minority, no that is not true, they are in miniscule sliver of a minority. Take a look at this site, a small excerpt:

A follow-up study by the Skeptical Science team of over 12,000 peer-reviewed abstracts on the subjects of 'global warming' and 'global climate change' published between 1991 and 2011 found that of the papers taking a position on the cause of global warming, over 97% agreed that humans are causing it (Cook 2013).

Incidentally, both the sites, I had referred before, have pointed out all that is wrong with the paper. The conclusions derived in the paper shown as excerpt above were basically false.

There are a number of critiques on this paper. For the benefit of the readers, I have shown a few below.

UnderCooked Statistics « Climate Audit

Global Warming ?Consensus?: Cooking the Books-
consensus-cooking-the-books

Tol statistically deconstructs the 97% Consensus | Watts Up With That?

Popular Technology.net: 97% Study Falsely Classifies Scientists' Papers, according to the scientists that published them

Let's hear from some of the scientists themselves, whose research were part of this study.

Idso: "That is not an accurate representation of my paper. The papers examined how the rise in atmospheric CO2 could be inducing a phase advance in the spring portion of the atmosphere's seasonal CO2 cycle. Other literature had previously claimed a measured advance was due to rising temperatures, but we showed that it was quite likely the rise in atmospheric CO2 itself was responsible for the lion's share of the change. It would be incorrect to claim that our paper was an endorsement of CO2-induced global warming."

Shaviv: "Nope... it is not an accurate representation. The paper shows that if cosmic rays are included in empirical climate sensitivity analyses, then one finds that different time scales consistently give a low climate sensitiviity. i.e., it supports the idea that cosmic rays affect the climate and that climate sensitivity is low. This means that part of the 20th century should be attributed to the increased solar activity and that 21st century warming under a business as usual scenario should be low (about 1°C).

I couldn't write these things more explicitly in the paper because of the refereeing, however, you don't have to be a genius to reach these conclusions from the paper."

Dr. Morner, your paper 'Estimating future sea level changes from past records' is categorized by Cook et al. (2013) as having; "No Position on AGW".

Is this an accurate representation of your paper?

Morner: "Certainly not correct and certainly misleading. The paper is strongly against AGW, and documents its absence in the sea level observational facts. Also, it invalidates the mode of sea level handling by the IPCC."

Carlin: "No, if Cook et al's paper classifies my paper, 'A Multidisciplinary, Science-Based Approach to the Economics of Climate Change' as "explicitly endorses AGW but does not quantify or minimize," nothing could be further from either my intent or the contents of my paper. I did not explicitly or even implicitly endorse AGW and did quantify my skepticism concerning AGW. Both the paper and the abstract make this clear. The abstract includes the following statement:

"The economic benefits of reducing CO2 emissions may be about two orders of magnitude less than those estimated by most economists because the climate sensitivity factor (CSF) is much lower than assumed by the United Nations because feedback is negative rather than positive and the effects of CO2 emissions reductions on atmospheric CO2 appear to be short rather than long lasting."

In brief, I argue that human activity may increase temperatures over what they would otherwise have been without human activity, but the effect is so minor that it is not worth serious consideration.

I would classify my paper in Cook et al's category (7): Explicit rejection with quantification. My paper shows that two critical components of the AGW hypothesis are not supported by the available observational evidence and that a related hypothesis is highly doubtful. I hence conclude that the AGW hypothesis as a whole is not supported and state that hypotheses not supported by evidence should be rejected.

With regard to quantification, I state that the economic benefits of reducing CO2 are about two orders of magnitude less than assumed by pro-AGW economists using the IPCC AR4 report because of problems with the IPCC science. Surely 1/100th of the IPCC AGW estimate is less than half of the very minor global warming that has occurred since humans became a significant source of CO2."

Few other authors have also opined on how wrong the classifcation was. You can get more information from the link above.

To summarize briefly, The statistics is cooked; there was bias in the selection of the papers itself for the study; Even among the papers selected, the conclusions derived on many papers were wrong according to the authors themselves. But Nara wants us to believe there is no political interference.

Folks, here is what President Obama said today about those who deny global warming,

"We don't have time for a meeting of the Flat Earth Society."

The measures Obama announced today are mostly aimed at mitigating the effects of AGW, not reversing its causes. This means he is preparing the U.S. to try to cope with the effects AGW. India has a huge coast line, and what is India doing to prepare for the calamity the next generation will face most likely, or the one after that for sure? Nothing -- because India lacks the resources.

The effects of AGW is not felt like a tsunami or torrential floods. Yet, the effects can be seen through scientific research, and there is, the quibbling about 97% not withstanding, a near unanimous consensus among the scientific community about the reality of AGW and the catastrophic danger it poses. If we take these scientists seriously and if they are wrong about their warnings, then the consequence is we would have spent a hell of a lot of resources finding alternatives to carbon based energy source, which is not exactly a bad thing. On the other hand, if they are right and we don’t take them seriously, then we not only face the annihilation our species but we will take a whole host of other non-human animals species with us as well.

I will sign off with this exhortation, if you are interested in this issue please do some research on your own and find out what the truth is.

This thread has many topics like most such threads. Concern about climate change is one such topic.

In fact the meat eaters in the world pollute much more and may be contributing significantly more to the climate change.
If vegetarianism becomes much more pervasive in the world there will be much less impact due to the transportation industry. All the concerns of 'pollution' by developing countries will be mitigated by the true impact which the universe may be able to withstand.

Taking on a powerful industry of meat production is not easy for anyone and so there is not a good solution to the problem.

AP Cong, TDP leaders scuffle over ferrying U'khand pilgrims - Rediff.com India News
In a brazen show of competitive politics, Andhra Pradesh MPs belonging to Congress and Telugu Desam were Wednesday locked in a scuffle in public view at the Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun over ferrying pilgrims back to the state.

The embarrassing altercation between Congress MP Hanumantha Rao and TDP MPs Ramesh Rathod and K Narayana, who nearly exchanged blows, came in the presence of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu over taking the flood victims back home by air.

Sloganeering by supporters of TDP and Congress only added to the ugly drama of political one-upmanship that unfolded in the airport which for more than a week has been a scene of hectic activities in mobilising succour to the distraught pilgrims.

The argument between the two sides was over who will ferry the victims to Andhra Pradesh as both of them had arranged flights.

Hanumantha Rao claimed that TDP leaders were preventing the flood victims from boarding a flight arranged by the Andhra Pradesh government to Hyderabad.

"There is already a flight arranged by the government which is waiting for the pilgrims. TDP leaders stopped them from boarding the flight saying that they have already arranged another flight to take them to Delhi," he told mediapersons.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Civil Supplies D Sridhar Babu, who was deputed by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to Dehradun to supervise the relief operations, alleged that the TDP is trying to obstruct government’s duty.

Dismissing the Congress MP's claim, Ramesh Rathod, TDP Lok Sabha member from Adilabad, said the ruling party leaders tried to delay the bus carrying flood victims from reaching the airport and boarding the flight arranged by his party.

I am not understand why people raised their doubts on GOD that why He did this calamity in His own shrine.
Is It O.K if He destroys all dwellings except His own? God is everywhere...we should not restrict him in particular shrine.
This happened because God also obeyed Nature's judgement . Man's greedy nature and foolishness led to an excessive burdening upon the fragile Eco system in Himalayan foot hill.Human extreme disrespect and irreverence of all divine things has contributed this grave situation But man got a big lesson at the cost of thousands of innocent lives

.....If vegetarianism becomes much more pervasive in the world there will be much less impact due to the transportation industry. ..
vegetarianism is certainly preferable from a crass materialistic POV, meat takes lot more carbon to put it on kitchen room table, but there is a powerful persuasive case to be made to give up on that steak, bacon, or chilli chicken. Here is an hour long lecture by the humanist Peter Singer.

Peter Singer: "The Ethics of What We Eat" - YouTube

If we all turn vegetarian we will lead a more moral life and save the world as well.

if all turn vegetarians, the demand for milk increased, which leads to explosion of cow population.

Cow 'emissions' more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars

Cow 'emissions' more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars - Climate Change - Environment - The Independent

Beef and pig productions in factory farms are the cause of a lot of 'emissions'. Vegetarians consuming required milk is hardly the issue. The real problem is excessive use of milk marketed as too much ice cream and other milk products which are luxury and not necessary items

Dear Sri tbs,

The above photographs are of Archival pictures of Kedar and Badri taken in C1882.
The routes taken by earlier Pilgrims including Sri Sankaracharya, Sri Vaishnava acharyas
and other saints seem to be just make-shift bridle path on mountain slopes.
Great indeed.

'India should start preparing for a large earthquake in Uttarakhand

The difficulty of coordinating the response in Uttarakhand suggests that the country is ill-equipped to deal with a large earthquake in a mountainous area. The effects would be many times worse,' warns Dave Petley, expert on landslides

Dear TVK Ji

Sorry for this belated revert. Yes, I agree with you when you say that certain things are 'revolting'.

But, the sort of 'sensitive' things that I was referring to are things that we as a human race have to
be collectively responsible for and ashamed of. These are no 'state secrets' / 'military secrets' / 'espionage stuff'
that I pretend to hold and attempt to cause a mystery out of.

But certain facts are better kept hidden than written about / spoken out in the public domain.

As you would already know, women in general, have been the victims of savage lust in war times and would
also have read/heard about the 'sex slaves' that armies kept - abducted from the homes of the fallen and defeated.
This has happened all over the world - not just the Far East / Europe.

Even in India, there is enough historical recording of how the women-folk of minor kingdoms and fiefdoms were consigned to the harems of the Mughals and their sympathizers to live a life of misery and beget offspring of illegitimate liaison.

It is pathetic to see how young girls [ some as young as maybe 13/14 ], having survived through a war-like situation
end-up in refugee camps to deliver a baby - no clue as to which man could be held responsible - the girl might have
been subjected to the horror several times by several men, over a period of time and left - presumed dead.

Such children brought upon this world were once referred to a Children of War [ no longer so ], looked-down upon
and generally shunned by the society. The thinking changed gradually. Govts, NGOs and Charitable Organisations
worked over-time to provide a certain 'identity' and 'dignity' to such hapless women and their offspring by way of food,
shelter, education, jobs, pensions etc etc.

Now between you me and the TB Forum, I really don't care if someone takes-off into fundas like 'Karma' /
'Dharma' / 'Maya' / 'Janma-Punarjanma' etc etc as a means of seeking justification / explanation for such shameful behavior of the species that considers itself at the very apex of the Animal Kingdom.

This is what I meant when I said 'sensitive' - the deeper one digs, the more the muck.

I was meant to have met Raji Mami yesterday - but got got stuck with some old buddies and got
lost is recounting 'them days' - I will make it up with her soon.

:welcome: back Mr A.M Ji. :)

I believe that no relationship or friendship can be broken

UNLESS both the people want it that way.

From my side I am putting out my hand to shake hands with you

with absolutely no hard feelings of any sort.

If you wish you may shake my hand or just walk away in silence. :decision:

My mind won't trouble me anymore - in either case. :peace:

If I had been very harsh on you I won't hesitate to say "Sorry!"

Mr. A.M Ji loves reversible names like K.K and R.R.

I too have a reversible name. Actually I am Mrs. V.V.!!!

For that matter all the four sisters could have been with reversible names.

My elder sister's name was cut short, so the palindrome was lost.

My little sister is another Mrs. V.V. too!!!

And everyone knows and adores the famous Mrs. R.R.
