"Life is like that!"

When we were young and craved for ice-creams ,

we could not afford to buy them. :hungry:

Now when we can afford to buy them,

we are forbidden from eating them! :nono:

Life is like that!
Very nice, as all the posts from you! somewhat similar: "One works for over 30 years, earning money, often neglecting health: and, after that, spends all that money on account of health care in just about 5 to 10 years!"

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main" (John Donne)
Comments: "The unity underlying life is so complete and pervasive that when we inflict suffering on the smallest creature, we injure the whole. When we refrain from habits that harm others, when we take up jobs that relieve suffering, when we work to put an end to anger and separateness, we strengthen the whole.
There is nothing more important in life than learning to express this unity in all our relationships. Violence, war, and insensitivity to our fellow creatures are external manifestations of the disunity in our consciousness. When we begin to practice spiritual disciplines, right from the first day, however slowly, we begin to transform our character, conduct, and consciousness. When the divisiveness which has been agitating us and making life difficult begins to mend, we get immediate evidence in our daily life. Our health improves, long-standing personal conflicts subside, our mind becomes clearer, and a sense of security and well-being follows us wherever we go"

There is a Tamil saying which can be translated to

"Mind is a monkey."
:suspicious:

All the troubles are started by its 'monkey-business'.

Vasudevachar's "Bhajare re manasa" in aabheri is a lovely krithi with some deep meaning (in my view), one line (charanam) says, "ravijaadi vaanara parivratham, naravaram", with a possible connotation that human mind surrounded by 'monkeys' could still be controlled, like 'naravara', SreeRama! but, of course, as SriSankara says in 'MohaMudgara', the mind has its preoccupations in various stages of life, like 'kreeda', 'tharuni' and 'chintha' (parame brahmani kopi na raktaha!) -- Life's like that!

In Bhagavat Gita, Arjuna tells Krishna that controlling one's mind is as difficult as

controlling the air.

When we achieve this we reach a higher level than the lay men.

Mind is as difficult to control as the air.

But we have air conditioners to that job for us!

We have mind conditioners too to control our minds.

But the pity is they can't be bought in a shop and installed for

immediate use!

Mind conditioner must be developed by oneself in a long, laborious

process called Ashtaanga Yoga.

It costs not a pie but demands Determination, Discipline and Devotion!

There is often virtue in calculated deafness.

will save the unpleasant situation)

Let us not waste a minute

thinking about those
whom we do not like! :clock:

When the children are young and make a lot of noise we wish for some peace and

quiet in the house.
 But when they grow up and leave home under different

pretexts we wish for some noise and disturbances since the house so peaceful

and quiet!

Why do some people get the boost :thumb:

God and the honey bees!

Bee P told to Bee Q," I saw God in my dream yesterday! I can't

describe how magnificent He was."

Bee Q asked Bee P," What was so great about Him anyway?"

Bee P told bee Q,"He was very much like us but he had two stings!"

Every creature including man imagines God in his own form but with a

few extra heads / hands / stings! God is endowed with extra Power and

Infinite Knowledge.

Thankfully He always has only two legs to enable his devotees to hold

on to them tightly.

This has set me thinking about how in addition to imagining GOD in his

own form, man has unknowingly transferred various human attributes,

life style, moods etc to God. Given in one day it may be too much to

relish. We will see them one after another in a relaxed manner. You

must trust me when I cross my heart and swear that these are aimed

more at the working of the human mind than on the Gods themselves.

See you tomorrow with more of these! :hail:

You learn more about a person by just

allowing him to talk than by asking questions.

You get more fun that way too!

[FONT=comic sans ms,sans-serif]Brahma and Saraswathi.

Brahma is the God of creation, the God in charge of a very important portfolio. He is responsible for all the creations in the entire cosmos. He is always kept busy by his assignments and duties.

He is attributed with a Rajasic temperament. He is the perfect replica of a business man with no time for his family or family life-who keeps his wife in a comfortable and safe place and goes about his business relentlessly.

A husband always on the move and extremely busy to give his wife physical company.

Saraswathi Devi.

The goddess of Intellect and arts. She is overly intelligent, hyperactive since she too is attributed with a Rajasic temperament.

She is pretty but not rich like Lakshmi Devi, nor does she have the power and boldness of Parvathi Devi.

So she has to marry Brahma who is-more often than not-depicted as a very old man sporting flowing white mustaches and beards.

She lives a life of solitude. She keeps herself usefully engaged by learning-she has a bundle manuscripts in one of her hands.

She does Japam since she carries a Japamaala in one of her hands. She plays veena whenever she is neither studying nor doing japam.

She has to control her natural instincts .So she wears a white sari, sits on a white lotus and is surrounded by snow white swans-all of which are symbols and promoters of purity of thoughts and feelings.

To put it in a nut shell she is a 'brahmacharini' who happens to be married!

How better can a person depict the forlorn wife of a busy person?

A few interesting facts from wikipedia about Goddess Saraswathi ...

A hamsa is often located next to her feet. The sacred bird, if offered a mixture of milk and

water, is said to be able to drink the milk alone. It thus symbolizes discrimination between the

good and the bad or the eternal and the evanescent. She is usually depicted near a flowing

river, which may be related to her early history as a river goddess.

Sometimes a peacock is shown beside the goddess. The peacock represents arrogance and

pride over its beauty, and by having a peacock as her mount, the Goddess teaches not to be

concerned with external appearance and to be wise regarding the eternal truth.

:decision: . . .

dear Raji,

Thank your for adding more interesting info.

But white swan is the vahana of Saraswathi Devi and Brahma.

Lord Muruga uses peacock as his vahana.

There is no doubt that peacock represent the pride and vanity of a person.

Looking forward for more active participation from you,

with best wishes,
V. R. Akka.

Then why peacock appears in this Ravi Varma's picture?

From Wikipedia:

Devanagari: सरस्वती

Sanskrit Transliteration: Sarasvatī

Affiliation: Devi (Tridevi)

Abode: Brahmapura

Mantra: Om Eim Sarasvati Svāhā

Consort: Brahma

Mount: swan, Hansa Bird, and often peacock

Hansa or the swan is the first choice.

We get the words 'Hamsa vaahini' describing Saraswathi Devi in some songs!

Thanks for the lovely photo!

The peacock must be enjoying the divine veena gaanam played by Devi. You

must have seen all kinds of animals, birds and even snakes pictured around

Krishna as if mesmerized by His divine music in the flute.
