Pranams to all,

Madras Day Celebrations - Madras week from Aug 18 - 25.

Madras, now Chennai, orignates from Fort St. George, built on land that was leased by the East India Company on August 22, 1969.

Member of this forum, spread across the entire globe, should certainly have some connection or interesting experience or some good old memories relating to this city like that of traveling in Tram, tour to temples, visit to Connemara Library, Moore Market, Spencers, etc

Besides, its rich history, rich culture and traditions, land marks and heritage buildings, etc it should have some effect on each Member and they may have some connection in Chennai's activities like well known Music Season in December, Reputed Educational Institutions, etc It is definite that Chennai has some influence in most of Member's life.

Above all, it being capital of Tamil Nadu and being the fourth largest Metropolitan city of India, provided livelihood for everyone who come to Chennai with great hope and big dreams, still offers and hope shall continue to do so.

Wishing Chennai a very Happy Birth Day.

With regards.:)

Remember Hotel Dasaprakash on Poondhamalli High Road and Gupta Hotel in Mylapore in the late 50s. Heard Namma Autos are changing the life from the squeezers.

Dear VB,

I think you got the year wrong..It was in 1639 and not 1969

Quote

it was on this day — August 22 — in 1639 that Francis Day signed the lease for the tiny strip of beach he had obtained from the local chieftain of the disintegrating Vijayanagara Empire to build a permanent trading post of the East Coast

So we will be celebrating the 374th Birthday this Thursday

Happy Birthday Chennai!
