Dear Smt Subbulakshmi

My brother lives in Valparaiso IN and sister in New York. My Manni, is leaving back for the US
- 2nd week April, is there any way you could arrange to collect is from Valparaiso ?

There 50/60 others, strewn all over the US and Canada - I wouldn't bother asking any of them to carry
the Prasadam for you. These are folk who make annual visits to India and I get sick of them after a
one hour meeting with them - these are just those " HI & Bi " types.

From Valparaiso, if it ok, I'll send it.

Dear Anand Manohar,

You are so kind.. Please do not worry, I live very far from both places and there is no way I can pick it up.. I do have children living in NY but they are in different ends.. When I happen to meet you please give me some in Madras.. I just would feel blessed just to hear your experience in person.. so I will wait to come to Madras, it hopefully will be later this year.. Thank you so much for thinking of me..

Do have meeting with all the other esteemed members and have fun by giving them your trip in detail, I am sure all would enjoy that very much.. God Bless..

Best wishes.

Bushu/Subhalakshmi :-)

Dear AM-ji:

Now that you are back after the great pilgrimage, let me offer my sincere congratulations and a warm welcome back.

It was indeed my pleasure to have gone through all your posts . The only reason I did not actively participate was this – reading about your valid personal experiences during your sojourn at the Kumbhmela , it was really a transformational experience for me. I did not want to interrupt the free flow of your reporting abilities. If it was indeed a totally personal self- sponsored trip by you, ( and not in any official capacity – say as a retired army general or whatever), I must admire your stamina in sticking through it all. Presumably you are still young man( like just still in your 60s ?).

Whatever, since you are a resident of Chennai, I hope to be able to meet you when I return from my stay in USA. Since you mentioned Marundeeswarar temple, I presume you must be staying in or around Tiruvanmiyur or Valmiki Nagar, in which case we will, as neighbours, probably be hardly a couple of miles away!! So, please, if at all possible, save some prasadams for me too!!

Dear A M Sir,

It is worth waiting for a get-together if Renu, Ravi, Bushu and Naina Sir are joining!

Meanwhile, you are most welcome to my sweet home. Shall send the map by PM! :)

Dear Smt RR

Please, you need have no doubt actually. Soon as I got back, the Brahmotsavam [ Marundeeswarar Temple ]
started and finishes with Panguni Paruvam. Moreover I sort-of took it easy because Dr Renu indicated
that she'd be in Chennai in August for her Higher Sanskrit Course / Exam.

Ravi [ Sheikh ] too must be having his vacation and should be in Chennai around that time. Now it looks
like Smt Subbulakshmi also will here. So, that's three very important and involved people I thought it was
worth waiting for.

That really is the cause of the delay. Hope you will bear with me. However, if you wish, I could come any day
and hand over the Maha Prasadam to you and Mama.

The Prasadam doesn't belong to me - The Almighty is only using me as a conduit / courier to ensure it
reaches assigned people.

Your feedback on this, most welcome.

Dear Dr Ross, TBS Ji

Thank you both so much for your good wishes.

If you have been a resident of Tiruvanmiyur for a long time, then I should know you / your family.
Valmiki Nagar came up only in the mid 70's. Before that it was a large stretch of barren, undulating sea sand.
The location that is now termed Tiruvalluvar Nagar was a casuarina grove through which the sea breeze would
howl, giving an eerie feeling - made a safe hide-out for brats like me to go and have a smoke.

There was also the remnants of a huge cannon - placed there by the British Military, to fend off attack
from the Japanese Navy in WW 2. There were only two villas in that area - one that was Justice Balakrishna
Iyer's and the other was M.G.Balasubramaniam's. MGB was related to my G Father and was called "Jeemu"
in family circles.

It was a small village-town that consisted of a population of TBs and Naickers [ and Graminis, who are essentially
a sub-sect of the Naickers ] - where everybody knew everybody else. Typical of any rural population, common
bloodlines / lineages, connected identities and communal spirit was the order of the day, then. As the place got
swallowed by an ever enlarging city, everything typical of urban life - most prominently un-common bloodlines /
lineages, disconnected identities and ruthlessly competitive spirit, is what one can observe nowadays.

There are three Dr Balasubramaniams from Tiruvanmiyur that I can immediately recall

1 . Dr M.Balasubramaniam - known as Mani Bhagavathar, a contemporary of Sirkali Govindarajan
2 . Dr K.S.Balasubramaniam - a Medical Doctor who served time in military field camps in WW2
3 . Dr T.S.Balasubramaniam - a Prof of Maths, whom we drove nuts, while he tried to put some sense into us.

MGB's house was called "Saradindu" and I don't think he went by the title "Dr".

No Sir Ji, I did not go in any official capacity. I did earlier turn down Somalia, Rwanda and Afghanistan.
This was one of those " Just for the heck of it " things - I actually had a knack of getting into awful trouble.

When I saw the movie " Nothing But Trouble " - early '90s release, I actually thought that a few pages
from my life story were plagiarized - imagine sitting and watching a movie and actually laughing at oneself!

Such things happen only to clowns like me! Been an eventful life so far, and given a chance, would
love to live it all over again.

Raji Mam, I have noted your address. Dr Narayani, TVKS and [presently underground] Yem Kay are somewhere
in the vicinity of Chennai. Would love meet every one and play the role of " Baron(Friedrich) Mancahusen " .

Dear Tmt RR

Yes Mam. Every year we conduct the 108 Vilakku Poojai in the months of Aadi and Thai
on a Friday. This year, Aadi month is between 17th July and 17th August.

The Fridays this year Aadi [2013] are July 19th, July 26th, Aug 2nd, Aug 9th and Aug 16th.
The precise date will be decided in our next committee meeting - the dates have to be
'convenient' for 108 ladies to perform the poojai - in case they need to nominate 'proxies'
they can do so well in advance.

I am thinking of scheduling our meeting on the date of the Vilakku Poojai so that we can strike
two mangoes with one stone.

Just to let everyone know, we don't invite Swamijis / Mutt heads / Jagadgurus / VIPs and we don't make a fuss
around famous personalities [ I wont mention names ] who are regular attendees.

I hope to make it such that, all in the TB Forum attending can watch the Poojai for while, have darshan
at all the Sannidhis and then come to Amarabharathi Hall, receive the Kumbh Mela Prasadam and have
dinner with us [ organizing committee members ].

Timing [approx] between 6.30pm and 9.00pm. Tiruvanmiyur is well connected by Bus and Train [MRTS]
therefore, the people coming shouldn't have a problem getting back home.

Yes Mam, I did do the initial posting on 5th March - but I was still there in Prayag then. Now we have
narrowed-down to five possible dates - that's getting closer, now.

No special invitees - all the lovely people in this austere Forum are welcome - it would be a help to
get an idea of [approx] number of people attending.

Your feedback(s) most welcome

Dear A M Sir,

Your idea about meeting at the 'viLakku poojai' is good.

Let us think about it because we have to return at night!

In honour of TBS Sir's visit we can have the get together of our forum members even during the last week of August! :)

Now back to the 'printed chapAthis'!

It is said that the burnt part of chapAthi is harmful to our health! It is so?

If it is so, the 'karunjufied' part carrying a good message is bad for health!! :dizzy:
