Dear TKS ji,

Another example of non attachment..when a doctor sees a patient...A doctor cant give in to sentiments while at work..the greatest test would be treating a family member during an acute emergency... I had done this two times once with my mother and another time with my father..at that time I just thought of them as patients and tuned off to the fact that they were my parents.

I know some doctors cant treat their own relatives cos they cant tune off the attachment and emotions and let another doctor do it..I remember once a fellow doc could not stitch his wife when she had cut her hand and he asked me to stitch her and he could not even see me stitch her cos he was so worried and tense... but once when my husband acquired an injury on his nose I stitched the injury.I told my husband..just relax and you are in safe hands.

So its a matter of being able to tune off and we can be detached from our actions.

I am sure most doctors actually do this easily daily but not many would want to admit it cos no one likes to be thought of as mechanical but in reality if we let emotions get us we can never do a job well.

Dear Renu,

Let me give a non-medical example of action without attachment! It happens everyday in many households in Sing. Chennai.

The servant maid does her work just as a robot, keen to finish her work and go away, whereas, when the maid takes a day off,

the homemaker takes more time to clean and maintain the house because of her attachment to her sweet home! Howzat? ;)

Nope...its possible...ask any sex addict and they will tell you how they can perform action without attachment.

Nope, Sex addict by definition is addicted to their act, perhaps not to the person involved.
Attachment cannot be narrowly defined as attachment to a person or a set of persons. The same reasoning applies to all other examples as well if each is taken and analyzed.

Yes I agree..when I wrote that I meant not attached to the persons involved.I do agree with you that the addict is attached to his/her actions.

Actually the act of sex might actually teach us a lot about detachment if properly analyzed cos at first the initial thought of it is a personal decision then the next step is a combined action with partner/partners and it culminates in personal pleasure finally..doesn't that mimic life? That we come alone..we get involved with other people/situations and finally leave alone!

So the Mannangati lesson for the day is "Life is just an act..we should know when to connect..when to play.. and when to disconnect!"LOL

Good example but RR ji before when I had a maid she used to take so long to do work but now when I dont have a maid and do my work myself I am taking even less time than my maid..what my maid used to take 1 hour would only take me 30 mins and I clean better than how she used to clean.

I guess the maid only had 1 job...that is to be a maid..I have to rush to work too so I got to speed up and clean well!

Dear Renu,

Speed depends on the person who does the work! We all know your speeeeeeeed! :)

But, the attachment as 'OURS' makes the difference! That is what I meant.

Dear RR ji,

Yes and No..... Yes when we think we actually own it and No when we know that everything is temporary..frankly speaking I am not that attached to my house! Its just a house but for my car I used to have some attachment for it but even now that very less!

But I am very attached to my collection of books.
