'Artificial egg' made from PLANTS backed by Bill Gates set to revolutionize cooking goes on sale at Whole Foods | Mail Online

I have heard that in Japan, low and cheap quality fish are being 'flavoured' with the taste of expensive tuna.

Also, i have heard that meat like products in taste and texture, are now being made, out of vegetable particles and extracts.

My question is this: Will it be the same as eating pasta or pizza, if we have 'hamburgers' or 'sushi' made out of vegetable matter? can we consider these 'vegetarian'?

Dear Shri Kunjuppu,

The advances in science and technology constantly force us to think about long held concepts more deeply. In this case if we think about the real reason for the practice of vegetarianism it is to avoid cruelty to animals. One should be asked whether he chose non-veg tasting food made out of vegetable matter so that cruelty to animals be avoided? If so I think one may be considered vegetarian. Otherwise I think one should still be thought of taking non-vegetarian food.
