No sir, I did not say that (or mean to say that).
Ask RR ji or any female here who has lived in India.
During my student days, when i lived in india, molestation was common. I can say i got touched inappropriately in buses, public places, irrespective of salwar or pants. So did every single female i know of.

I agree with you..I too was a student in India and my 1st encounter was during Holi..you see I had no idea what Holi was about so some of us girls some from US and and from TN went out on Holi day to take an auto to the beach and we all got molested by a group of male students from Kerala(another college) as we were getting into the auto.
It was quite bad and we had to fight,kick and punch to make them leave us.
We ended up having even metallic paint on our faces and they even stuffed my friends mouth with colored kum kum powder so that she wont scream.
After that we never went out on Holi without a male escort.

It is all first hand experience we are sharing here...even once when I was in final year..it was day time some 5pm and I was walking back to hostel and a car stopped in beside me and and 4 men were in the car and they asked me for directions for a hostel.
Then the back door of the car opened and the guys all in their late 30's asked me to sit in the car to show them the hostel.
I sensed danger and quickly walked away and crossed the road so that they cant drag me in the car.
Even once when I was in Chennai airport waiting for my flight one Muslim shop owner at the air port closed the shutter of his shop and came up to me and told me "madam..I am going to Chennai town..come along with me and I will take you back on time for your flight"
I was thinking did he really think I was stupid enough to follow him?
I saw that he went back to his shop opened the shutter and did not go out after I said I am not going with him.
So it was so clear he had some evil intentions.
Unfortunately, vast majority of indian males are either sexist or sexual predators; or so it seems. By nature, Indian males love (the sense of) power, much like the arabs and eastern europeans, it appears. No wonder law in India favors the rapist. What a pathetic jail term for rape -- just 7 years. And indeed 'eve-teasing' is kosher. Looks like every Indian male is a potential predator, if not sexist.

The gang had the great offer of the Night!!. Money by looting them and Free Sex with the girl. With this intention they started teasing the pair and all that followed we know.
In this, their is nothing in the psychology of the gang rapists to break one's head to figure out what was their psychological issue?

Islamic fundamentalism came out in a visible manner with one MP declaring M'sia as an Islamic state. Though the then PM, Tungku Abdul Rehman subsequently sought to paper this over in 1983, even today M'sia is an Islamic state and if one is to be counted as Malaysian and shown as such in the identity card, he/she has to convert to Islam and be fluent in Malay.
Malaysian Muslims found the tight-fitting Baju Kebaya as not good and so their womenfolk started wearing the loose-fitting Baju Kurung and, the head scarf in the place of their mandatory face cover(Burkha). All this because Islam and the men following Islam want their women to conform to certain dress code which is considered "modest and appropriate" in that country. (BTW, Kerala Muslim girls are also now compelled to wear head scarf invariably when they are outside their house.) If we Indian men say something very similar, we become "predators" but our great women's libbers do not even dare to write anything against the Islamization in M'sia, because the same MP reportedly declared in the M'sian Parliament "you tidak suka, you keluar dari Malaysia!" ("You don't like it, you get out of Malaysia!" - courtesy wikipedia). That is why I said India is being considered a basket case and anyone and everyone will feel bold to preach to Indian men about rape and dress not being linked etc.
I do wish India becomes an Islamic state, if only to put a full stop to the senselessness view of woman empowerment by some women !!

I have a feeling that this is directed towards me...I have certain reasons not to discuss politics openly after all this topic is not about politics but its about the psychology of rapist.
Rape is not a grave problem here and no Muslim is forced to wear a headscarf but many wear to follow the dictates of their religion and many also do not wear.
But as a Hindu living here I have the full freedom to even roam around in a mini skirt and no men touches me.
Please understand I do not want to drag politics into this.
All this previous statements as get out "if you do not like..get out" did not get away without paying a heavy price of loss of seats of the ruling government in the recent elections...now everyone is very politically careful of what they say or write right from Ministers to common man.
I hope you get what I am trying to say.
P.S..but no matter what..women are not blamed for rape here.

2)Rapist are dealt with seriously and jail sentences and whipping are given.
3)Rapist causing death of victim are given death sentences.
4)Women are NOT blamed for rape.
5)Public Sexual Harassment is NOT a grave problem.
6)The clothing and attire of women are NEVER blamed for rape.

I think it is not only men of the lower strata who will rape a woman, but, in fact anyone belonging to any class or comfort level. That is why we hear of rape being committed by father on daughter (so many cases have come out - from different parts of the country and from different economic levels), brother raping sister (both younger & eleder sister), uncles raping nieces, step-fathers (of course, this is a consequence of the women's emancipation efforts) raping their step daughters and so on. Added to these are cases like that of the Delhi Nirbhaya.
I also have some difference in regard to the following paragraph:

In traditional households good-looking and well-endowed girls were deliberately kept at a distance from even her brothers, male cousins, and other male members of the joint family. Why, even such girls were supervised in regard to their movements with some female members too. When I was too young I used to be puzzled by this but very much later I came to know that our older generations knew about lesbian instincts as well. It may not therefore be correct to say that Well educated and disciplined, ethical and moral people can relate these sexually appealing ladies with their Mother, Sister, Daughter, Female friends, etc. It is also a moot point whether lust is such a thing which can, at all times, be controlled even by the Well educated and disciplined, ethical and moral people, imo.
In the case of Malaysia and the Arab countries, they have the religion as the basis for asking their women to dress modestly, according to their views. But in India we do not have such a leverage. But as Palindrome says here "vast majority of indian males are either sexist or sexual predators;" While this may or may not be true, it is better for women to consider things that way and organize their lives including dress, etc., accordingly. They will be the happier and safer for doing so, irrespective of studies and the linkages of dress to rape etc.

Women want women lib rights.
Some want voting rights.
Some want education rights.
Some even want bragging rights but the most important we forgot is some men want raping rights!
I think its a basic primal instinct for some and taking away their fundamental raping rights is a seen as a major problem hence that is why women are blamed..left right and centre.
In that case men should not complain that women dress in an exposing manner..they should be happy and sing " I am rapist and I know it " when he hears the sexy lady singing 'I am sexy and I know it"!

Smt. Renuka, Palindrome, other members holding views similar to these two in regard to "rape"!
However much you may write, compare, lament, etc., India of today is not going to change and that too just because of the hue and cry created here in this Forum. You people are transmitting the pov of today's woman but it will be better if you consult some of the elderly ladies in your family also about how they view this problem. Their views will do immense good to you, I think, because they have grown up in India and that too safely (without getting raped, overtly or even covertly) and have given birth to a new generation, reared it, etc. My advice is, please listen to them instead of vehemently arguing for a complete change in the mindset of the entire male population of India, that too in a jiffy.
There is no harm in continuing to dream about that good day in future when beautiful girls in the prime of their age also can walk in the loneliest by-lanes of anywhere in India and no male will even notice her or her beauty. But that day will be far distant in future. So, people like me do advise young women in our family to dress according to the place and situation and be spared of possible troubles. They may not be liking this but they do listen and comply with our advise. It has done them good only and no harm, thus far.

Yes I did that...I consulted even my mother and she said that as long mothers do not teach their sons to respect women (besides their mothers and sisters) even wearing a Burka wont help eradicate rape..her comment was when she read about the mannequin lingerie ban.

By obliquely trying to brand some members here as "rapists" who are clamouring for their "raping rights" and so on, you are not going to change the mindset of any one, including the members you are aiming at. It is not going to change the ground reality that immodest dress causes increase in public rapes as different from what they now call "custodial" rapes.
US has one of the highest incidence of rape and there is huge under-reporting, because of the "the belief that it is a personal or private matter, and that they fear reprisal from the assailant. A 2007 government report in England says "Estimates from research suggest that between 75 and 95 percent of rape crimes are never reported to the police." (Rape statistics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
It will be seen from the url furnished that "rape" - that too male-female rape is very much alive and well, throughout the world and it is the most under-reported crime. Come to think of it, is not sexual intercourse itself "rape" in one way? Will a man be able to do a good job of it unless he has sufficient power of erection and staying capacity? These are natural instincts, not some ability cultivated by yoga etc. This same ability sometimes breaks all barriers, like a dam burst or earthquake and then the man concerned will forget everything else including the punishment of death. Even in Malaysia with all the good conduct certificate you gave elsewhere, there are 3,500 rapes reported. Rape, incest, molestation are all increased over the last decade.

Perhaps you have a cocoooned existence as a Government doctor or perhaps you are not allowed to dress in any whichever manner in that country and you are following those dress codes for fear of legal action, you seem to be living far away from possible rape situations. What I am trying to say is that the world over, men will be men, despite whatever they may pretend; may be they are all "predators" but in that case, your father, brothers and male ancestors will be no exception to this universal rule. Have you thought about this aspect? I feel Islam knows human psychology well.

Firstly I am not targeting anyone in specific in Forum.
Secondly I am a private Doctor.
I dress according to the situation..professional at work and dress differently after work.
Last but not the least..the males in my family or all those distant male relatives of various grades have never been convicted of any crime involving sexual assault on women.
I can walk freely in a swim suit of any choice at the beach in front of my father,brothers,father in law and brother in law when we have been to picnic..so nope...no predators or pretenders in my family circle.
Men are not "men will be men" as most wrongly thought.
Men are men(as in male species) and a rapist is a rapist.
I hope you know the difference.

I asked my mom. As a medical student itself in her time she has handled rape victims including underaged ones (having also performed abortions). In her time, media never reported it. People never went to police fearing either their reputation or policemen themselves. She is glad media is reporting plus people are protesting. Mom' verdict -- HANG RAPISTS. Hang any man who thinks he has the right to rape a woman if she is naked, or under any circumstance.

Any one can say 'Hang the rapist" as my mother too says!! But fortunately, my mother though a female, understands the natural phenomena and wants ladies to be modest in their dressing for their own safety. She understands that all men are not same and also understands that sexually exposing girls potentially attracts Rapists towards her.
My mother as a lady understands that Rapists don't think its their right to rape a lady and that he even fails to think what will be the legal repercussions. All he thinks is to achieve sexual pleasure unmindful of what it can cause to the girl in front of him. Rapists only thinks that they got the opportunity to rape a Lady to satisfy his lust. She is too strict and careful that she would not allow me to be in a home alone with my uncle's daughter. LOL!! But, fortunately we humans evolved for better to decide and control as with whom alone we can/should have sex (with mutual consent). At the same time, the ground reality is NOT "All Men" are equally evolved.
The family background, upbringing and the culture followed - all together matters a lot that helps in evolving for better. Unfortunately, in this world NOT "all" are blessed with parameters that supports evolution for better AND unfortunately, it would most probably ever remain so!
