Quotable Quotes Part II

Francis Bacon in his instruction tells us that the scientific student ought not to be as the ant, who gathers merely, nor as the spider who spins from her own bowels, but rather as the bee who both gathers and produces. All this is true of the teaching afforded by any part of physical science. Electricity is often called wonderful, beautiful; but it is so only in common with the other forces of nature. The beauty of electricity or of any other force is not that the power is mysterious, and unexpected, touching every sense at unawares in turn, but that it is under law, and that the taught intellect can even now govern it largely. The human mind is placed above, and not beneath it, and it is in such a point of view that the mental education afforded by science is rendered super-eminent in dignity, in practical application and utility; for by enabling the mind to apply the natural power through law, it conveys the gifts of God to man.

Michael Faraday (1791-1867)

The essence of this long message is this:

"By enabling the mind to apply the natural power through law,
it conveys the gifts of God to man.
"

All the gifts given by God obey the laws set by Him-
unless disturbed by God's ungrateful creation called Man!

Dear Mr. vgane,
You may post whenever possible.
I think a thread can survive 2 or 3 months
without a fresh post being made in it.
So there is no rush or pressure to post
everyday or even every week! :)

Very true sir! :clap2:
We are like a complicated watch.
Each wheel small or large
is equally important for the
correct functioning of the watch!
Each of us have a notch
where we fit best and match.

Intelligence is built by gaining information, knowledge from external agencies, from schools and universities, from teachers and textbooks. Distinct and different from intelligence is the intellect. The intellect is the ability to think freely, logically. The faculty to reason and judge without bias A. Parthasarathy, Governing Business & Relationships, Chapter 2

An upstart queried Swami Chinmayananda during a question-answer session: ‘Swamiji, I do not know so why much of fuss is made about Bhagavad-Gita. I have gone through it several times and found nothing great in it.’

Swamiji gave an impish smile and replied ‘Young man, I am glad you have gone through Bhagavad-Gita several times and I believe in what you say. But will you, for a change, allow Bhagavad-Gita to go through you at least once.’

Thanks to the Internet. Anyone can become intelligent now! ":thumb:

But a person STILL needs intellect to use the intelligence properly!

We gain intellect and wisdom through the real life experiences.

That is why an illiterate can still be wise and an educate person otherwise. :)

This young man spoke the truth when he admitted

to have GONE through (and NOT having studied) Bhagvat Gita!

My guru told us an incident.

A rich man suffered from insomnia torn asunder by many worries.

His Guruji told him, "Use Bhagavat Gita. It has the solutions to all the world's problems!"

The rich man came to his guruji beaming during his next visit.

"Swamiji you were right. Gita solved my problems and I sleep well now"

Duly impressed his Guruji asked him "What did you do actually?"

The rich man replied,"I use it as a pillow and go to sleep the moment I lie down on my bed!" :)

"We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons." -- Jim Rohn

There is space between the role and the person .But it is not spatial . Role playing without loosing self-awareness is possible through sadhana backed by knowledge .Japa is the sadhana .

Swami Dayananda Saraswati from the book "Japa"

We play many roles everyday.
But we do not come out of them-
the way a drama actor does,
once he gets down from the stage.
If one can do it and detach one's real self
from the different roles one plays,
that will be the pinnacle of all spiritual saadana. :first:

Quotable Quotes II
