Racism in the west - why so many Indians, minorities, etc. tolerate/live with it ??

Dear JK,

When Nina Davuluri won Miss USA..everyone saw Racism in US.

Some racists were so ill informed that they thought she was Arab!


Ok then the same Nina faced racism in India.

I had read internet comments by Indians in India saying that Nina is too dark to be a Miss India and she will never make it far in life..no future with skin color like that and no one will marry her if she was born in India becos she is dark!

So tell me who is not a racist?
 
Renuka - Many of us who have been visiting the west knew racism exists & have heard of such stories from family & friends !. After Ferguson, the extent of racism was known. I was shocked to see all internet message boards filled with terrible racist abuses !. so what does one make of it ?. Shouldn't our youngsters know what awaits them when they go their in their 18s & 20s for education & work ???
 
Renuka - Just because Nina "may have" faced racism in India does not make it right that she faced racism in USA. Infact I don't think anyone made any racist comment, they only said, she probably would not have been miss india due to her skin color. anyways, two wrongs don't make it right !! My purpose is to educate the youngsters on what kind of racism exists in the USA/Europe/West in general !!.
 
Also - this has nothing to do with Brahminism & some of us wanting to keep our superiority !!. Most of the immigrants to USA/West are NBs.
 
Frankly – why should anyone keep denying racism in the west, when the entire world is talking about ?. I mean of all people, why would non whites staunchly deny this ????, beats everyone !

Hello – are you not reading the world news?. Are you not reading CNN, Huff post, CBS, Nytimes, Washington post etc….?

Are you not seeing, hearing & reading the huge huge noise made by everyone after the ferguson riots ?

Wow – it is a big surprise to know how some people live in a delusional world when it is falling all over !!

Anyways, the whole immigration to abroad for education & jobs is losing its magic !!. Atleast a num of Indians in the cities know what is happening & some (in time most) will decide not to put their kids through this mess !!!

Ha Ha ha...you have no idea..once upon a time Jaykay was singing a different tune.

He said TBs have one leg in US and one leg in India..but God knows what happened now that he is crying the racism song? It was the same Jaykay that said Brahmins should not venture into business. They should only work for the IT industry abroad..now all different tune yaar!

So you are asking him to handle the American Indian first?? Then who next?Some female here??LOL

Yes opinions change!. I mean how many times we think this guy is good & then we say he is bad after seeing the true colors.

All American Indians had very effectively hidden this “big ghost of racism” for so long – LOL !. Unfortunately it got busted particularly after the riots!!

On the point on Business, I meant in current times, there is NO case for business given that private companies pay such fat salaries right from the start of joining post education!. However I also mentioned that after one retires, the best thing to do is Business!

So Jaykay ji..you do admit your opinion changed..fair enough.

But do you really think everyone feels the same away as you?

Some might have differing opinions.

So let everyone go thru life and decide for themselves.

That is why partly I am not too fond of tradition..tradition makes everyone follow only one so called time tested path.

Life is not all about just towing the line..life is all about finding your own way.

Even I have been in the U.S. for a few years. So I have the first hand experience of how the whites think and behave. In general everyone there will harbor the notion of superiority because they have achieved so much in the field of science and in other areas. It is natural. But some actually do not display that superiority and behave very amiably. While some others may blatantly display it. In good times generally such display is minimal and in bad times it increases. Right now America's credibility as a leader has taken some beating and that is probably reflected in the attitude of the people in general. Unless the situation gets worse, I think by and large for someone staying there especially at a higher socioeconomic level, the problem of racism is really not a big problem.

But the situation may get worse if American continues on its decline.

life is not about always finding a different way for the heck of it.

one tows the line , if it does not get you desired result ,it is worth looking for a different way

it is not wise to be individualistic in every thing one does

such people are kept out by others as they cannot take non team players'

of course what approach one takes on various issues depends on own likes and dislikes based on their value systems

there is a lot of wisdom in your post

all issues are only for those who are not well off-socio economic level matters.

even in india caste related discrimination is mostly for the poor.

racism issues are likely to get worse due to global confrontation of two non hindu religions and we could get inadvertantly get drawn into it

I see bad times for american indians.

they can perhaps plan for reasonable alternatives if situation gets worse due to decline of a super power america

My job is not much about team playing. Even though we have para medics with us but if anything goes wrong..its the doctor that has to answer everything and sink with the ship.

If there is a law suit only doctor get sued and not anyone else.

So technically team playing does not exists in the medical field..even though there seems to be an apparent team with you.

The captain goes down with the ship..so he better know how to escape when he is sinking!

Even in other aspects of life..the same applies..there is rarely team playing when one is sinking.

as a doctor facing life and death situation what you say is true

in life , there are very few sinking possibilities

when it comes to that it might require serious consideration

Dear Sravna,

I consider your above post as well-balanced, in the thread which somehow gives me the feeling that this issue has arisen, suddenly, because there is a general "feeling" that, subject to ever so many things happening in the world according to our wishes, India will emerge as a very powerful nation equal to or even more prosperous than the US!

What makes me pause is that if this is the position when the Indian Super Power is just in the "dream stage" only, what will be our attitudes if we really emerge as a "Super Power"! Our kings and emperors of old wallowed in similar megalomania and that was the reason for India being a slave country for most of history!

Skin colour is always a factor in human mind and those with a fair skin consider themselves, instinctively, as somewhat more blessed as compared to the dark-skinned. Fair-complexion, "gori-chitti" girl/gora chitta boy, etc., are usual requirements found in most matrimonials. I have even witnessed dark-skinned girls being made to stand in the last row (away from the camera) while shooting video programmes. The white people have been ruling much of the world either directly or indirectly, for centuries; it is the US$ and not any African currency which drives the world economy even today.

Why, when Yajnavalkya threw away his original vedic teachings and got a new, refined veda in its place directly from the sun-god (Hayagreeva) the new, refined veda was called Shukla (meaning, white) Yajurveda and the old, discredited version was named "Krishna (black) Yajurveda", in this very Punyabhoomi !; so why can't the white man have some arrogance or superiority feelings towards his darker counterparts?
 
Dear members, On this Topic of Racism, Indian Americans are LEAST involved/ affected. We , all are peace loving/ whole world knows, esp. the top Political leaders who had visited INDIA, have least in mind about Racism , connecting both countries even remotely. One thing for sure we know that that PAKISTAN cannot change its Terrorist activities & INDIA cannot dream of Terrorism / In India the terrorism is fostered by the Muslims only. These are TRUTHS, legally also, absolute TRUTH, nothing but TRUTH.

I thought vedas never change. I have heard about shukla and Krisna yujurveda, but did not know the significance of it.
