This is becoming a mourning ஒப்பாரி session now. People who have accumulated a number of imaginary and real grievances have started the oppari session.

Let us put this behind and move ahead. A certain post was perhaps very abusive or went against the grain of the forum and got deleted because the moderator agreed with that when some one reported it. It is just that. Keep moving. The hurt ego will take some time to cure. But for others to jump in with their own grievances and start an oppaari session is a sign of some thing wrong. My view this.

Laughing Out Loud indeed :-)

The write up below is not specifically addressed to anyone but I thought I will share what is on my mind upon reading your post

ஒப்பாரி sessions may have therapeutic value provided it is limited to just a morning :-)

Many years ago in a conference room of a Global corporation I saw a notice on the wall and it described scales of responsibility and irresponsibility ...While I do not remember the exact lines I thought it was well done

So here is the list of just the behaviors that one should observe in a forum or meeting to detect levels of irresponsibility by the participants...

1. Not accepting facts and reality, always deny, keep saying the same thing after a lot of discussion without processing what was said
2. Blame others
3. Play victim
4. Unaware and unconscious of what seem to be going on
and now a new addition inspired by your post :-)

5. Initiate and/or participate in
ஒப்பாரி sessions involving many

LoL

There are professional opparis, who are contracted and paid. When a few normal people join in the oppari moved by the vocal and theatrical skill of the oppari gang, then the gang gets job satisfaction and (don't) leave with a full heart.

One of the reasons, but by no means the only reason, I started this thread was to take a look at the obnoxious and totally out of the pale tendency of some members to smell the gutter whenever their views were challenged. That is why I named the thread the way I did. Not only they see gutter in any progressive thought or argument, they, unfortunately, drag the early SV social outlook, something that deserves better, into the gutter with them.

Unfortunately, this is a fight true SVs had to fight right from the inception of SV tradition. A true SV is Periya Nambi who didn't give a damn about the prevailing Brahminical majority view. He boldly performed the last rights for his friend and fellow student, Mara Ner Nambi, a dalit, for which Periya Nambi was chastised by his fellow Brahmins. It is acharyas like Periya Nambi who deserve our reverence and whose example we must follow.

In due course of time, the hand of the bigoted SV Brahmins was strengthened. So much so, the great Swami Sri Desikan himself fell into the pit of Varna supremacy ideology. To him, an NB SV is like a temple cow, can be given deference, but nothing more for he is not a Brahmin. This is the depth of hateful varna thinking SV Brahmins had fallen into in a short span of roughly 300 years. SVs fell into the depths of hateful varna ideology from an expansive and all inclusive Bhagavatha tradition of the Azhvars exemplified by verses such as the following:

எந்தை பிரான் தனக்கு அடியார் அடியார் தம் அடியார் அடியார் தமக்கு
அடியார் அடியார் தம் அடியார், அடியோங்களே.

திருவாய்மொழி 3.7.9

Just count the number of அடியார் azhvar uses and think about its significance. Don't give or fall for the cock and bull stories of some so called SVs, they espouse the very opposite thinking Azhvars emphasized.

Take a look at the above snippet one more time if you care for common decency, the Azhvar says he is the servant below seven layers of servants of the first servant of Sriman Narayana. He does not say that any of them needs to be a Brahmin. Yet the Vadakalai patron saint Desikan dismisses all this as mere hyperbole and an NB, however great he may be in his bhakti, is still a temple cow, a mere cattle, to be respected to the extent a cow can be respected.

This is the depth to which SV tradition that started with reasonably progressive ideas had fallen to within roughly 300 years. The vadakalais took the thenkalais with them into the ditch and today, both kalais are casteist, a far cry from the early Acharyas like Periya Nambi, let alone the Azhvars. What we see today among SV brahmins are excuses. Instead of taking the ideas espoused by the Azhvars and early Achars forward and making them proud, the later and present day SV Brahmins have taken them down into the hateful vile pit of varna dharma and have made a mockery of Azhvars and the early acharyas.

The tragedy is the complete reversal of the ideals, the what could have been, given the revolutionary ideas of Azhvars and the early Acharyas. Something sublime was later tragically turned into a descent into jAti supremacy abyss hastened with vengeance by the likes of Desikan. Today, the descendants of the jAti supremacists have taken over SV tradition so completely that if the Azhvars and early acharyas were to time travel and come face to face with present day SV Brahmin community, they will be hounded out as hateful people and be accused of distorting their own age old vision -- Azhvars misrepresenting their own ideas, LOL.

Now, if it was one flouting or falling short here or there one could argue successfully that it is just a random aberration, but, as I have shown in post after post, there is a repeating long pattern here. Azvars and acharyas say accept everyone irrespective varna, and these SVs don't want to even sit next to them. Acharyas say give and take knowledge, these guys say don't come near us to study anything. Early SVs accepted women even as Azhvar, and the present day SVs keep them as far away as possible. Not only Azhvars, the early acharyas say accept their ஸ்ரீபாததீர்த்தம் and these guys say you can't have பெருமாள் தீர்த்தம் before all the barhmins have taken it. The list is long as I have shown.

These SV Brahmins are rank hypocrites, for all the lip service they so proudly provide, they will be the first to hound out NB Azhvars if they were to show up here and now. Kulasekarazhvar will be asked to stand all the way back in Udaiyavar sannithi. Nammazhvar will be asked to stand outside his own sannidhi in Azhvar Thirunagari because he is NB. Allowing Thiruppanazhvar into the temple will be such a great affront that the orthodox SV would rather not enter the temple ever again.

I do believe we would be living in a different society if the ideas professed by the Azhvars and promoted by all acharyas in the beginning and by Thenkalai acharyas for as long as they could manage, found resonance and taken hold. Unfortunately, it was the bigoted ideas of the likes of Desikan that gained acceptance among SV Brahmins, and so it was, not only SV was doomed, biut the only hope of progressive reform was doomed as well.

p.s.
as always, every idea I expressed here is based on actual texts. I am willing to go toe to toe if any reasonable rebuttal is offered. All ad hominems and pointless meta-data comments will be ignored.

Folk,

This is with reference to post #154:

I have plenty of time this week. So I keep rebutting everything said by this hypocrite. Do you remember that I had challenged this hypocrite to prove that he is not a hypocrite and that challenge still stays. Please remember this member is also an atheist. He champions the cause of Alwars and Acharyas quoting their words (out of context and misinterpreting them freely) which is like the Satan quoting the scripture. As you and I have time let us enjoy the fun (what tks calls 4[SUP]th[/SUP] quadrant activity).

The naming of the thread , calling all the members who differed with him as “idiot brigade” were all perhaps fragrant activities coming out of his ‘progressive’ thought. What a progress this!! So I asked him to get a nose (which he appears to be lacking) fixed. It appears he prefers to wallow in the gutter and so I leave him there.

Periya Nambi performed the last rites of a dalit and so he deserves the reverence and every one should go hunting for dead bodies of dalits and perform final rites by following his examples. What can be more stupid than this. There is an organization functioning in Chennai which has volunteers exclusively from the Brahmin community. They perform the final rites for all those unclaimed bodies which lie abandoned in the city of Chennai. They do not know Periya Nambi or Maraner Nambi. But out of their own intellect and compassion for the poor they thought it is a worthy cause and so they are doing that. A monority who can not personally participate in this activity because of their circumstances contribute funds for this cause. The majority of Brahmins in Chennai do not do this. That does not make them any less decent human beings. For arm-chair revolutionaries this myopic outlook is a congenital disease which can not be cured. None of the SV members of that organization ever think that they are doing something great. That is the kind of humility with which they work silently. Now this is the most important point: They(the volunteers) have not given their children in marriage to a dalit just to prove any point. They know the difference unlike our arm-chair revolutionary. There is no need to go for such name dropping frequently (Periya Nambi, Maraner Nambi etc., etc., SVs know what they speak and what they do. They also know what they should do and should not do.

In due course of time, the hand of the bigoted SV Brahmins was strengthened. So much so, the great Swami Sri Desikan himself fell into the pit of Varna supremacy ideology. Varnas are for real. They do exist. Differences between human beings is generic. There is no use wishing it away with a homogenizing fervor which is against nature’s ways. Varna based and caste based totemic position claiming, and committing atrocities is inhuman. There is no need to homogenize the society. The heterogeneous society as it exists is a beauty. Even scientifically, the centuries of cultural values super imposed on the genes have helped the genes mutate. There is no need to work against the nature and homogenize them. This is the position of not only learned SVs but also learned Brahmins in general. If there are exceptions to this desirable position and there are IC/iR marriages taking place, let them be. SVs and Brahmins just do not bother about such wayward children. Let them live happily wherever they are. Why I am saying all this is because the final goal of all this arm-chair revolutionary lecture is towards this goal of IC/IR marriages. Having made this position of the Brahmins clear, let me say this too: Brahmins do not think they are superior and others are all inferior just because they are born in Brahmin caste and others are not Brahmins. Whoever (includes a Brahmin too) proves himself in life should enjoy the respect of every one. When you deny that kind of equal treatment to a Brahmin, a Brahmin also hits back. What did Desikan mean when he said Holy Cow? That needs going into a lot of Desikan’s work and this is not the place for that. This member is known for his quoting such snippets out of context, then going to misinterpret it by twisting and bashing it. So I am not going into the Holy Cow discussion now. Aa repeated reference to the BhAgavatha tradition is dished out here. BhAgavatha just means one who is free from ego and has completely surrendered himself to the God. An atheist trying to interpret this is just funny-to say the least. The member has quoted the Nammalwar’s pasuram here. This is just an exact word to word translation of Kulasekara Alwars Sanskrit words which I had quoted in my post #144 (for ready reference- “thwadh bhruthya bhruthya, parichAraka bhruthya bhruthya, bhruthyasya bhruthya ithi mAm smara lOkanAtha” bhruthya means அடியார் and the sloka is from Sri MukunthamAlai) . If the member had counted the number of word bhruthya there he would not have found the need to waste bits and bytes here again writing the obvious and asking members to count the words again. I do not understand what is new that the member is trying to say. Perhaps he has a felt need to impress people with his (mis)understanding of Alwar’s pasurams!! Yes, name dropping, at times like this-when you are just hollow- impresses people particularly if they do not know about Alwars’ and Acharyas’ works. It is like giving a surfeit of references in a thesis paper in Science.

I have already said why I do not go into temple cow statement. I will ask just a question to this member: Is temple cow just a cattle? When an atheist speaks about temple he is bound to make mistakes. LOL.

Alphabet soup without any flavour served repeatedly. Repetition of the same wailing. Deserves no reply.

A hypocrite has no locus standi to speak about the hypocrisy of others. Please cure yourself and then come here.

SV is not doomed. From the shores of Atlantic it may look like that depending on what had passed through the alimentary canal few minutes before the viewing. But come here to this glorious country. You will find that in Chennai, just as in Srirangam or Kancheepuram, when the God’s deity is taken out on procession , there is an Arulichcheyal (அருளிச்செயல்)Ghoshti (with large number of SV members) happily and reverentially chanting the Alwar pasurams and there is also a Veda parAyana Ghoshti chanting the Vedas with equal fervor and devotion bringing up the tail end of the procession. You will see men and women reverentially paying their respect with folded hands(irrespective of caste or creed) some prostrating on the road itself, not only to the deity but also to the ghoshti. That is what is called devotion/bhakti, the “thwadh bhruthya bhruthya, parichAraka bhruthya bhruthya, bhruthyasya bhruthya ithi mAm smara lOkanAtha” kind of devotion, and an atheist can never understand that other than counting the number of times the word bhruthya occuring there. For your misplaced enthusiasm for the SV women folk and their rights, you will find a number of Kotha Ghoshtis and Nappinnai ghoshtis vibrantly chanting the work of Alwars and Acharyas in every Vaishnava temple here. When you next visit India please do not confine yourself to your room in the hotel. Go to the temple (after carefully removing your elephant size ego to leave it behind in your travel bag locked up) and be observant. You will find the profound truth then.

as always, every idea I expressed here is based on actual texts. I am willing to go toe to toe if any reasonable rebuttal is offered. All ad hominems and pointless meta-data comments will be ignored.

The usual small print. I do not care. I just smile.

The black shirt wants everyone to become a black shirt and talks like seeman. There are thousands of devoted souls to approach for learning and experiencing prabandam. I am not sure whether in his next trip to singara chennai or any other town, he will for snatching bodies for unceremonial burial or burning. The relatives of the departed soul will make a mince meat of the intruder.

The abhorrent behaviour of insulting a group of people and their devotional literature deserves strict condemnation. He can find all his jalra and adulation if he writes his unholy views in a dk magazine; it is highly possible even that magazine will find the skewed content not worthy of publishing. Perhaps that is why all drivel is vomited here. Hope other family members keep a safe distance to minimise mental pollution.

I'm sure you're referring to Nara here. If you have a grouse or grudge against him, say so. Do not drag his family into this, it is abhorrent and in very poor taste.

The usual small print. I do not care. I just smile.
