There is a simple answer. There are contradictory passages in puranas and dharmasastras. Everyone does nor or need not follow all the lines, letters and commas. One follows as veda vakku what is practiced by his clan as prescribed by his guru and acharya. For e.g. I follow the following injunctions of manu - one must respect and protect ladies, as lakshmi will not reside in the house when she is not respected or treated well. Our elders of all jatis were wise to cull out and practice what was good for their community without creating any unnecessary social conflict. Jat will accept what is given to him by his spiritual elders.

Many mixed groups and forums (tamil too) have accepted this view of the inherent strength and superiority of each jati, and have stopped blaming brahmins for real or perceived ills and inconsistencies. In fact, when someone blames brahmins for social problems like untouchability or poverty or social exclusion, many from other than brahmin caste (!) spring to his defense and balance the issue.

Dear RR ji,

Today I was reading Manu smriti was discussing with a friend..one stanza goes that the Brahmin being born from the mouth of the Supreme person is the eldest and is the ruler of the world.

Then my friend told me thats not true cos Deva Samhita says that Jaats are the prime rulers of the world.



No idea which is true?

. Jat will accept what is given to him by his spiritual elders.

Somehow my Jaat friend was adamant and he said that Manu smirti was from Manu a (human) but Deva Samhita was from Lord Shiva.So he said Lord Shiva over rules Manu! and indeed Jaats are the true rulers.

In fact Deva Samhita also has a stanza that says this:

गर्व खर्चोत्र विग्राणां देवानां च महेश्वरी Garva kharchotra vigrānam devānām cha maheshwarīविचित्रं विस्‍मयं सत्‍वं पौराण कै साङ्गीपितं Vichitram vismayam satvam Pauran kai sāngīpitam || 17 |


|Meaning - "The history of origin of Jat people is extremely wonderful and their antiquity glorious. The Pundits of history did not record their annals lest it should injure and impair their false pride and of the vipras and gods. We describe that realistic history before you."

My friend said its clear the Lord Shiva knews others wont agree with this.

Anyway I will try telling my friend what you said.

Obvious differences:
Religion (sometimes as Jats can be Hindu or Sikh).
Skin Color.
Music.
Language.
Food.
Dress.
Social Habits.

I have good Jat friends, and I do happen to be TB.
