The inner meaning of this story is that, under no circumstances, associate yourselves with demonic qualities. Always be in good company. If you join bad company, you will also become evil. Hence, never befriend a bad person. The moment you come across such people, just say ‘goodbye’ and move on. You need not develop hatred towards them. Whomever you come across, consider them as embodiments of Divinity and salute them. Even when you come across people who hate you, offer your salutations (pranams) to them and ask them, “How are you brother?” Then they too will respond in the same manner. A human being is one who is endowed with human values and also exhibits them. Always speak truth and observe righteousness (Dharma). Be peaceful. Be happy and blissful. [/FONT]

Generally most of us in this Universe face many problems either in professional, personal or social life which one may find difficult to find a solution. Sometimes, one may take decisions which are appreciated as intelligent, but then it may bother him/her constantly, as to whether it is really right or wrong. Yet, there may be different advices and one may feel as to which one to be followed. How to proceed etc. Ultimately, one may leave it in the half way. But then if one follows the right conduct, truth, love, peace, etc even the tough decisions could be easily resolved.

One should make one's conscience secure and have confidence in himself/herself. Basically, conscience becomes the guide
and directs the behavior of a person. Whether the outcome is good or bad, it is the conscience that is ultimately responsible.
Someone may feel that if the results or outcome is not palatable, then he starts browsing his thoughts and conscience.
Thus one should have confidence in him to go by the right thoughts and conduct himself/herself in the right path so as to
do the things with complete confidence in the Divine Power and it is HE who conducts him/her in the right direction.

But when he took his position in the battlefield, he saw 'my teachers’, 'my grandfather’, 'my kinsmen’, 'my cousins', etc. and he was moved so much by this sense of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ that he discarded the bow and desired to return to the forest and beg for the rest of his life, than fight the war. The ‘I’ that has really nothing to do with earthly possessions, blinded him. Lord Krishna taught Bhagavad Gita and removed this delusion (moha). The lesson for you is “Be unmoved by duality”. Let not defeat or success affect your inner calm and inner joy. See yourself as your Self unrelated to others or the objective world. When you know your real Self, you are liberated! That is Moksha. As Baba used to say, discipline cannot be learnt from books alone. It should be an inborn
quality besides one has to adopt or follow dharmic principles. Discipline is an
inescapable one and without which life becomes unproductive. If a person has to
shine in life and come up in the ladder, discipline has to be practiced in day to day life
without fail. One cannot survive without discipline, In singing bhajans too, one
has to adhere to others. Purity of mind is derived from discipline.

A good person falling into evil company is overcome by the subtle influence and quickly slides down into evil. Reading that Krishna advises in the Gita the giving up of all individual responsibilities (Dharmas), an enthusiastic devotee gave up all obligations and limits; but he had to be told that one obligation still remained if the grace of God had to be secured: maam ekam sharanam vraja - "Surrender to Me only". What does it profit if one accumulates money, gold and grain? The bliss, derived from the worship of the name and form which arouses spiritual joy, is far more desirable than these. If you examine the cosmic scene, you will find that out of the same basic substance a variety of objects with different forms are produced. Out of a single seed comes a tree with different branches, leaves, flowers and fruits. Branches, leaves, flowers and fruits are unique and distinct, vary in form, name and use; but all of them have come from the one same seed, their source. This is the meaning of the Sanskrit term, “Ekoham Bahushyam” implying “The One, who chose to become Many.”[/FONT]

Extending the analogy, God is the changeless Creator, who creates innumerable objects in creation, which are subject to change in name and form. A pot cannot be made without the potter and the clay; both are necessary. Similarly the Creator is the instrumental cause of creation (Nimitta Karana). The human body may perish, like the pots, but the Creator and the Elements used for creation are imperishable. The human beings, during their lifetime, have a choice - to put their body to good use or bad use. [/FONT]

Some say faith is believing what you know, and knowing what you believe.
For some, to have faith in God is to trust Him and to have confidence in Him
irrespective of the outcome. If the seed sown is a good seed, then it will
automatically grow with water and sunlight and it would finally produce the
flower, raw fruit and so on, besides shadow, who looks for it. For some,
it becomes an uphill task to come into that fold, since they have always
second thinking and doubtfulness in all their acts. Small and sincere efforts
can certainly produce a good result. If a good seed of faith is sown to develop faith,
it would automatically motivate a person to make good choices in life,
which in turn would influence the closeness with the Supreme Power. Faith
is nothing but the first step in the ladder to climb up and to reach the
destination. If one steps into third and four steps in the ladder, it slowly
replaces the negative feelings besides confusion. Thus, faith in the
Supreme Power is the basic foundation.

If merely the Lord were to call Arjuna, "My friend" his ego could get inflated and he could take undue liberties with Krishna. If He were to say, "My dear, you are My devotee," he could become extremely submissive and maybe even develop fear towards the Lord. Fear should not be instilled; nor should he be encouraged to take excessive liberties. Hence the terms devotee and friend, were used by Krishna. "You are My friend. All the violence in the world today is due to the fact that people do not lead righteous lives. It has been said that the body has been given essentially to pursue Dharma. Among the teachings of the Buddha, the foremost was Ahimsa (not causing harm to anyone). Non-violence is not merely refraining from inflicting injuries on others with one's limbs or weapons. Non-violence has to be practised with Thrikarana Shuddhi (purity of thought, word and deed). There should be no ill-feelings, which is itself a form of violence. To cause harm to others through one’s body is himsa(violence). No one should be harmed even by speech; our words should be sweet, pleasing and wholesome. All actions should be helpful to others.[/FONT]

For instance, in the Gita at one place, Lord Krishna stresses the need for action, at another the adherence to Dharma, and in another place commends renunciation of all Dharma and urges complete surrender to the Lord. These apparent contradictions are not contradictions. The teaching varies according to the state of spiritual development of the person concerned and the situation in which one is placed. The lesson here is one must pay due care and attention to understanding completely the inner significance of the great teachings of the Avatars and sages before any criticism is attempted.[/FONT]
