Why iyengars are being targetted here and their visit to shiva temple mentioned?

There may be some pseudo iyengars who do that or the poster is ignorant or wrong.

Iyengars do not patronise shiva temples or navagraha.

Vishnu and avathars of vishnu are considered supreme.

If you have doubt , vaagmi sir will enlighten you.

well this wall painting I captured in my Micromax on 14th while climbing up பெ ரிய மலை Sholigur - Lakshminarasimhar Tremple

While going up the மலை I saw this Looks rather strange in a vaiahnavate temple in Tamil Nadu! - Is யாேக நரசிம்மர் சங்கர பிரியன் ? Dragged from my thread "Spiritual Pondy"

Your மானசீக குரு should be proud of you Hang on to him for your salvation! அவர் காலை பற்றுங்கள் - காலை வாராதீர்கள்!!

ThiruvaLLuvar gives a short cut method:

பற்றுக பற்றற்றான் பற்றினை அப்பற்றைப்

பற்றுக பற்று விடற்கு. (# 350)

Translation given by Project Madurai:

Desire the desire of Him who is without desire; in order to renounce desire, desire that desire.

Glory to the Guru! There is every reason for him to be proud again about another மானசீக சீடன் who has learnt her lesson correct - Guru was not ispired by Kabir but by Tiruvalluvar and challeged if Kabir had read Tirukural!

Even if want to integrate with the rest, we still can be identified by our speech, taste, behavior and look...

Even if we want to mingle with the rest, others want us to be kept aloof as they would then score brownie points!!

But we go all out to cultivate the rest then nobody can stop us !

Ultimately we have to take a call whether we want to be aloof & have a unique identity or merge our identity with the rest!!

"But we go all out .......nobody can stop us"

Are we not stopping our own selves!

"Ultimately we have to take a call...merge our identity with the rest"

Don't we choose to be aloof! Aren't we reluctant to merge with the rest! Are we not facing challenges in this area!

Gyna Sunderji,
I fully appreciate your post.

When I moved to Manchester, England, I found a Indian association. They used to have a Hindu temple meeting every Sunday. I used to attend, and made numerous friends. They were all North Indians, having been born and brought up in North India i did not have any problem. I was curious as to why no Tamilians were there. On enquiry I was told that a Tamil family lives in the next block from the Temple. I made some more enquiry and found the name of the gentleman. I called him and found him to be very affable and friendly. I acquired an invitation for Lunch from them. I had a wonderful TB lunch. During the conversation I brought up the Temple. The gentleman told me that his wife will occasionally visit the temple, but he refuses to go to that Temple. There were Pictures of Deity in his house, so obviously he was not an atheist.

I persisted and asked his boycott of the Temple. His reason was a surprise to me (not having lived in TN). He said one time he visited the temple and others spoke to him in Hindi (he does not like Hindi), so he told them of his disgust in Tamil and left. I was shocked.

So I do not know who lost more.

Dear Prasad Sir,

I have noticed that those who can converse well in Hindi think they are one step up among tambrahms.

They will seldom talk in Tamil and the mAmis in particular, will show off their knowledge in Hindi to the

Tamil speaking people. Tamil faces this sort of treatment even among tambrahms (they speak in English,

if not in Hindi!!) whereas, the Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada speaking people opt their mother tongue.

P.S: If I see tambrahm mAmis speaking mostly in Hindi, I too keep away from them. :D

That is precisely my point. Iyengars are traditionally staunch Vaishnavites. When I lived in Secunderabad the few staunch Vaishnavites we knew would not even go through the streets that had a Siva temple. Whereas to my knowledge, Iyers like my family generally went to all temples, Siva, Vishnu or even Brahma or any of their avataras. Even Rameshwara was off limits to staunch Vaishnavites. We all know the story of "Rama Ishwaran" or the Vishnu Avataram Rama's Ishwaran(Siva) temple!
Vishnu is the Lord of the Living beings. Siva's territory is the Rudrabhumi or the gaveyard.
Vaishnavites believe that they go directly to Vaikuntam(Vishnu's Abode) after their earthly life.
Please, correct me if I am wrong about any of these abstractions of our mythology!

Dear R S,

You have missed a heated argument which started off, when the 'story' of Rameswaram was given in a post!

This 'story' is introduced by a staunch Saivite and that IS IT!!

P.S: My mom has told about some elders, who say 'ari' for 'arisi'! Howzaat, Sir??

RR,
Even if I read Ramayana 1008 times and recite 1008 names of Vishnu, I cannot go to Vaikuntam. Iyers are destined only to Rudrabhoomi. To go to Vaikuntam, you must be reborn as Iyengar!

OMG! Then what about those like me who are not Iyer or Iyengar?

Where will I go?

Yamaloka I guess!LOL

Dear R S,
Not to worry! We can go to cool Kailasam, abode of Lord Shiva! :smow:

Yes...RR ji...you would be happy cos you can play with your favorite deity Ganesha.

Shiva Loka should be more fun...firstly Lord Shiva is so good looking and macho...then there is Parvati who has a mind of Her own and a happening Lady.

Ganesha is so cute and Lord Muruga is the War Lord...so you would be well protected.

Also you can go skiing down the cool cool mountains!

It would be like some spa in Switzerland!

"Kailasam" the tip of Mt. Kailash(Mt. Everest) is merely a mundane Heaven. Many have been there and said that with the biting cold and blizzard it was "Hell on Earth". But to get to Vaikuntam, you would need to get aboard the Viscount (pronounced Vaikount) Airliner. Unfortunately that service has been discontinued.

The Pushpaka Vimana is Vishnu's private business Jet and "Iyengars" are occasionally allowed as part of the "Press" to travel and Interview "Sri Vishnu" and get His "Vishwa Roopa Darshanam". The boarding pass is the "Thirunamam" stamped on your forehead! The TSA will send you through an "Xray" scanner to detect any ashes on your forehead or body!

So I really cannot give you any other suggestion but to pray to be born as an "Iyengar" in your next birth!

Lord Rama, after putting an end to Ravana, worshipped Lord Siva at Rameswaram and then came to Tiruttani to find perfect peace of mind by worshipping Lord Subrahmanya here.

The richness of our Indian Mythology is incomparable to any other mythology of the western world. One can spend a whole life time and still not get enough or all of it. That is why we need so many rebirths!
Greek mythology has lot of parallel stories to Indian mythology.

Ramanuja's Visit and Absence of Garuda:-

Ramanuja made trips to Divya Desams such as Thiruvattaru and ThiruvanParisaram. From Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Garuda carried him fast that same night back to Thirukurungkudi. And to Ramanuja’s surprise, he was on top of the Thirukurungudi rock at the blink of an eye.

As a result of this event, it is believed that one does not find Garuda in the Anantha Padmanabhaswamy temple.
