No doubt IT/ITES, next to Bank jobs is the second best job for women ...The brain power is used and there are less wrangles..Pay wise also it is a good pay master..Only in case of shifts there are problems for women especially in BPO line...Women now constitute a third of the work force, a highest among the private sector...TCS being a top employer at 3 lacs + is now employing women a third..Women are increasingly used in leadership positions and customer facing ones in the past 10 years..Welcome this! A whopping 1 million women are employed in IT/ITES in India!

I think too much is being made out of employing ladies by TCS as if they are doing them a favour.

they not only underpay professionals

they also behave as if they believe in gender justice in employing a few ladies in low level BPO work.

if the numbers of both are almost equal at all levels , it can be said that they are equal oppurtunity employers

otherwise they are only paying lip service and looking for cheap publicity

All listed Companies should have a female director on board by March 2015 as per SEBI directive and all are trying to beat that deadline! Besides TCS, Reliance, L & T also do not have female directors on board..Gender diversity helps

All family owned companies might nominate their wives and daughters

others could also nominate maids home to retain full control

it is like politicians putting up their unlettered wives for election when they are in jail.

Come on Krishji...There are smart women in all Companies who can raise the Corporate ladder..Talent is available..It requires some nurturing..

TCS is there to make money and they are able to find talent among educated women of India.
Smart companies know that seeking diversity of workforce is in the interest of their long term success.

There is a segment of Indians from yesteryears - old, stupid and useless - that have only known chauvinistic lifestyles in their lifetime.
Such people are out of workforce for most part and the new breed of employees and executives are recognizing the fact that seeking diversity in employment pays.

I have not doubted the ability of women to excel in corporate india.

in our days the number of educated women engrs and IT in colleges and jobs were very few less than 10 percent .

now they are almost equal in all academic institutions.

when you see the corporate world they are nowhere. the percentages are very few though increasing a bit.

of course there are some who are climbers in corporate world overcoming odds against them . we find some in banking and finance sector. a few in It.but in hard core engg

it is still a no-no.

let us see if there is a need for reservations here also.

No, no, no.

Why do you want to deprive tamil brahmin women?
I hope you saw the recent airtel ad. Wife the boss, orders her subordinate, her husband to stay behind in the office and finish deadline work before leaving for home. The husband is visibly annoyed and stressed.
Boss wife goes home, prepares a nice dinner of hubby's favourites, calls him and shows a live video of the dishes on the dining table. The poor guy beams.

I wonder why feminist organizations have not objected to this stereotype presentation of women who work and cook for the husband.

I was talking of reservations for women -not necessarily TB women in work place .

they have to be given their rightful share

that will reduce the Ads presenting women as cooks for husbands

The ad has been objected by males too as they are being ordered by their wives in office too...

Thalaveli Thaangale Appa!

But I was told that this is the Ad getting maximum eye balls as there are points to belittle the other sex, the opposite sex enjoys

Ganesh Ji,

You are right and most of them are very smart and hence HR Department of IT Firms are in favour of them.

This article published in the Business Line way back in 2002 is more relevant today even after a decade of time.

"Where women excel

R. Ramkumar

In no other industry have women proliferated and grown as quickly as in IT. Perhaps it is the very nature of the work, requiring more intellectual capital than physical prowess, which has opened doors for them."

P.S:
They are star performers, no doubt. One needs to admit this instead of wandering in a wonder land.

Dear Bala Sir,

The article quoted by you is very apt for the topic...I second the one where the author says that joint family will get impetus if both husband and wife are employed in IT..The family requires seniors to take care of the children...Hope the elders too like the arrangement without a tinge of over burden!

The whole idea that if couple shoud be career minded and parents [seniors] should run their home is totally unacceptable

they have carried the burden of house work for their children.

they would like to be free and enjoy their old age and retirement without being loaded with house work in old age,

this is exploitation of the old .

such a view requires condemnation by all senior citizens

are senior citizen elichavayans to be exploited like this by next generation.lol

If the couple work in shifts, managing the household and children will be a lot easier.

There is lot of advantages by having grand parents in every house. Members of such family can very well enjoy the love and warmth and also make best use of their experience. They will teach the children also the right way, giving respect to elders, family values, etc

For them spending time with grand children is a blessing, everyone loves it and the joy derived out of such act is immeasurable.

Talking about burden, exploitation, Elichavayan, condemnation, etc are only for those who are highly mean minded and belongs self centered group, mostly undesired by others.

Senior citizens with such mentality should better find shelter in Retirement homes, isolated with kith and kins which are a hell as advocated by a Member of this very same Forum.LOL

VBji
There is a need to change this mind set to hang on to children after they are adult and working.

For whose joy are senior citizen living with son and daughter in laws who want them as unpaid baby sitters

all this is gas and cheating yourself.

they have done enough bringing up one generation.

living independantly may not be hell as some think .

one should learn to live with oneself instead of hanging on others on some pretext or other

Krish Ji,

In fact one should feel lucky to have grandparents to live along with them.

How can one treat his/her parent who brought them up as ‘unpaid baby sitters’? One with poor mindset will only get such thoughts.

One can change his dress, hair colour, etc but definitely not culture which only time can do. That will take more time.

One has to live l…o…n…..g to see such changes in culture.

I would like to share the news items appeared in the 'News Today' today.

Balancing work & family

Chennai: Vaishali, an employee with a corporate company, drops her child in a popular day care centre in the city before heading to her work place. 'It is a daily ritual,' she said.

Many young working mothers have started depending on such centres, which help them balance work and family. It is a pressing need in the modern hectic life in corporate jobs, especially IT industry which demands round-the-clock work.

Divya, a software professional, said, 'The nature of my job demands long working hours. Workers usually race against time to achieve targets. Thus, working mothers are caught in the warp'.

Another software professional N S Hemalatha, agreed and said, 'Post- pregnancy, we are allowed to take maternity leave for three to four months. Otherwise, one year without pay leave can be availed, which is the maximum.'

She said that taking a break to take care of child will not be a viable option. 'Joining after a gap will mean that we have to start from scratch. The person will be inducted as a junior and she has to climb from the bottom rung again. It is not an easy job', Hemalatha pointed out.

Recently, a day care centre struck a five-year deal with a software company located inside the MEPZ complex. Accordingly, it will provide onsite child care facility, solutions, preschool, day care and post-school for tiny-tots.

Such centres are widely believed to ease the life of new generation of young mothers. Divya said,
'There must be somebody to take care of the children and the only option is leaving them at day care centre. They monitor well and keep them occupied for the day.'

We have all gone thru these things . My wife has been and is a working career lady

.I have brought up two kids with one year difference.

all such couple find their own solutions

creches are an option

but the kids have to be old enough for that'

working couples have to make adujustments.

leave , different working hours, one taking a soft job, working from home, relatives as a last resort[ I do not really advise it as it puts a lot of pressure on them if they are

senior citizens] are all options.

what one finally does is a mix of all of he above.

after going thru all this , I would say do not be a senior citizen getting emotionally caught with career minded daughters and end up as a wreck.

leave it to them to find other solutions which modern young ladies are capable off.
