Dearb Vaagmi ji,

As far as I know Swami Chinmayananda does not say Dharma =Law but he said the Dharma is the Law of Being.

He gives an example of Fire..that the Dharma of Fire is to burn.

He says that Law of Being is what that defines a particular object.

So when Kulvala said 3 lettered word..so I was wondering which 3 lettered word cos Swami Chins said Law of Being..that is more than 3 letters!

Law on its own can mean lots of stuff..it can be part of outlaw or part of inlaw or even Shakila!

I wonder if you remember the Vivek Comedy where he will be a TB and admonishes a fellow TB for child labour and then asks the small servant boy what he wants to study and the boy says LAW..he pronounces it as LA and the Vivek gets all teary eyed and hugs the boy and says "which LA you want to study" ..the boys says SHAKILA!

Renukaji,

English is an alien tongue. I do not know how to express many ideas in that language without hitting the keys in the key board repeatedly in a massive effort to get me across. Why LAW meets the requirement is this: I was buying tulsi from the flower vendor lady the other day. I picked up a few items from her makeshift table and gave her a 100 note. She gave me some balance , I counted it found it ok and left the place. I would have walked just a few yards when this lady comes running and gives me a 10 note and asks me to count what she gave earlier. I counted and found 10 short. As I accepted the money and said thanks in my own way which she will understand she said in so many words of her own slang Tamil that her thozhil tharmam was such that she would not have slept if she had not given that 10 to me then. So I interpreted it as "business law"-self imposed business discipline-and found you to be nearer to the point.

You are right indeed! but everyone in this forum is a friend indeed. hence we are obliged to enlighten them.

For that matter few people in the world know the simplest meaning of the word 'dharma', yet this word is being subjected to numerous tribulations in the tongues of many (anegarudaya naavil indha padham padakkoodadha paadu padugiradhu). some say it means righteousness, some 'truthfulness', 'generosity' etc while it's equivalent in english is a very simple 3 lettered word which few know and use. My once upon a time guru chinmayananda never used that simple word himself and would beat around the bush interpreting the word.

Dharma - Righteous way to noble truth. It is ‘Way’ - The Way, I believe. The Pharisees used the word hodos, The Buddha called it the ‘eight-fold-path’. Japanese recognized it as the way of gods or Shinto, and to the Chinese it was fully symbolized by the pregnant notion of ‘Tao’–The way.
