The Hindu launched its Tamil Daily today...I liked the look and feel of it..

Tamil papers thrive on hot news be it TN politics, Cinema or Sports..

The newspaper is likely to meet readers expectations

A good beginning!

Lack of perspective in naming the journal as“தி இந்துˮ. தமிழால் இணைவோம் ? If using the english article ‘the’ in front of a Tamil noun is justifiable, they could as well have used the name “ தி ஹிந்துˮ ? What is the need for தி anyway?

Dear Naina_Marbus,

In TN Hindu is always pronounced as Indu...That may be the reason for putting it as [FONT=&quot]இந்து [/FONT][FONT=&quot]
[/FONT]& not[FONT=&quot] ஹிந்து[/FONT]

Also they may have wished to retain the old name which is a brand by itself
Otherwise they have to advertise the paper big time which will involve heavy expenditure

For example Times (of India) has retained Times in its regional publications also

It is actually a good marketing move! A smart one as they do not have to build the brand!

As far as using The ([FONT=&quot]தி[/FONT][FONT=&quot]) [/FONT]is concerned as it is part of the old brand they may have retained it
 
The Editor of “தி இந்து " is from "Ananda Vikadan" where he had given importance to Cinema and TN Politics. I hope he would cover news and views required for a Daily News Paper.

There is nothing new in this...It is Mathimaran's traditional style of writing..If you look at the comments some highly controversial statements about other politicians is also published

But surprisingly The Hindu has taken 135 years to publish a Tamil magazine?

mathimaran talks nonsense. there is no logic in his blogs. only hatreds. fanned hatreds of brahmins and anyone else whom he dislikes. i read a few of his blogs continuously a while ago, and found that he tends to repeat himself, and his pet peeves. does not mince words and when it suits him, he is a diehard casteists of the middle caste who blasts the dalits.

i would call him a hypocrite.

What I hear is that the newspaper is called as Tamil Indu by the local guys who is buying the paper which is suiting them

In fact when I was visiting the Tamil Hindu website, I forgot to put a . between Tamil & Hindu, I went to a new site...It is a Hindu site..Good stuff in it ..The material in it can easily will whipsaw the types of Manimaran

In TN, to be a successful tamil daily, it should follow daily thanthi culture. Even a common man should easily understand the news. We have to wait and watch what culture the new paper is going to adopt.

I agree...Thanthi But of late Thanthi has also tied up with Economic times for Financial news..It has become hi-fi in that..Need to check Tamil the hindu for a longer period of time..Starting with 5 lacs copies which is approx a third of Daily Thanthi is a good beginning
 
What are the circulation figures and ranking for tamil newspapers? I read somewhere that 100 tamil dailies are sold for every 70 english dailies.

I could get the ABC figures of circulation for July-Dec 2012....

Daily Thanthi is 1.614 Million
Dinakaran is 1.267 Million
Dinamalar is 0.865 Million

Regarding Dinamani I have the figures for Jan-June 2012 which is 0.202 Million
