Sure! Can you give me the posting number, i.e., the number in the light blue bar that appears on the title of every posting?

Regards,
Chintana

Dear Administrator,
I feel that the following info posted by me in this thread is more apt to
find its place under the thread 'Know more about Hinduism ' :
11-1-2007 01.06 pm
11-3-2007 07.50 pm
11-4-2007 06.05 am
11-11-07 11.23 am
11-13-07 08.07 am
11-13-07 12.04 am

Can these be shifted there so that the readers would find it beneficial ?
thanks and regards,

WHO IS QUALIFIED TO APPROACH THE GURU?

To approach a Guru, you must be a proper Adhikari (qualified person). Correct understanding, non-attachment to worldly objects, serenity of mind, restraint of the senses, absence of base passions, faith in the Guru, and devotion to God are the necessary equipment with which the aspirant has to approach the Guru.
The Guru will impart spiritual instructions only to that aspirant who thirsts for liberation, who duly obeys the injunctions of the Shastras, who has subdued his passions and senses, who has a calm mind, and who possesses virtuous qualities like mercy, cosmic love, patience, humility, endurance, forbearance, etc. Initiation into the mysteries of Brahman will fructify only when the disciple's mind becomes desireless, and will produce Jnana in it.

Above excerpt relating to gurukulam - taken from the site -- http://www.dlshq.org/teachings/sishya.htm

...Maybe that's the reason why the modern day disciples like to follow the e-guru system for gaining an insight into the religious books !!

The Power of Brahmins

Dear Mr.Vijisesh,
Good to see you back, vibrant !

On Bakthi, please let me say something more.

In Thiruvembavai, there is a sloka :

எம்கை உனக்கல்லாது எப்பணியும் செய்யற்க
கங்குல் பகல் எம் கண் மற்றொன்றும் காணற்க ;
இங்கிப்பரிசே எமக் கெங்கோன் நல்குதியேல்
எங்கெழிலென் ஞாயிறு எமக்கேலோ ரெம்பாவாய்.

This idea is also conveyed by sri Adi Sankara in his 'Sivaananada
Lahari', sloka 94, which reads ;

saa rasna the nayane thaaveva karau sa yeva krithakrithya
yaa ye yau yo parkkam vadtatheeshkethe sadhaarchchatha; smarathi

That which speaks of Lord Parameswara is tongue;
That which sees the Lord is eyes;
That which does puja to the Lord is hands ;
He who always thinks of the Lord is the one who attains the
purpose of life.

In another sloka ( no.27 ), Sri Adi Sankara wonders thus : What can I
give to the Lord ! He has everything - golden mountain, kubera the lord
of wealth, kamadhenu chintamani and karpaga vriksham, moon on his
head and all good things. Even if we try to give something it would be
like showing deeparathana to Sun-god or giving a spoon of water as
arkyam and paathiyam to Sea-lord. So the best offering to my Lord
is surrender of my Mind ( மனஸ் ). He will be happy with my total
surrender. The verse begins with கரஸ்த்தே ஹேமாத்ரௌ.........
மம மன :

There is no limit to human desires; they multiply. If one desire is satisfied,
another one springs up. Iswara also goes on giving. Even the Devas have
desires in plenty. Unless our mind is firmly rooted in the Lord in the form
of Bakthi, these desires show their ugly head. Therefore, oh Lord, please
take me into your fold and bestow upon me the quality of bkathi. Saint
Thayumanavar says this in his own inimitable style :

Recommedations - Please !

Thanks Shri Ranganathan ji,

I am back after my vacation continuing my quest into learning the salient points described in our religious text , which could be put into practice during my lifetime !!

And during my search for gurkul and sishya in the net , i find that it was not so easy being a sishya those days ! Tough Disciplined procedures , stringent rules , sounds military stuff - doesn't it !

And after going through all these sacrifices and dedicating oneself to GOD , (like the texts you've quoted reveal ) , one attains salvation !

I think TIME is running out now (kalyug ), only a few berths left in the train to MOKSHA , one may not be surprised if they find KRISHNA floating in the leaf somewhere midway during their journey to attain salvation !

What would your advise be to the younger generations of today ??

Practically - I suppose to ask them to chant mantras , slokas , do sandhi daily and perform other rituals as being done by the forefather's at the apt tiime and if they find time to get into YOGA and meditation .

One may lose himself and get away from his family if he gets away from the materialistic world and follow the path of a TRUE SISHYA !!

Confusing !!!
