 Terrorists kill 21 in Pakistan university; four attackers too die

Peshawar, Jan 20 (IANS) At least 21 people including students were killed and dozens injured when four terrorists stormed the Bacha Khan University near here and opened indiscriminate fire in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is at war with the Pakistani state, claimed responsibility for the horrific attack at Charsadda that only ended when troops shot dead all the attackers after over five hours of fighting. The morning attack started around 9.30 a.m. when some 3,000 students and university employees were at the sprawling campus besides 600 guests, many for a poetry recital to commemorate the anniversary of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, popularly known as Bacha Khan.

Muralidhar Rao on Wednesday shielded his party from the allegations arising post the suicide of the dalit scholar in the Hyderabad University, saying that the suicide was in no way related to his caste and alleged that the protests were politically driven. Rao further said that dalit scholar Rohith Vemula had psychological problems which were revealed in his suicide note. The minister also stood guard of Labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya, saying that when the entire report was received by the latter, he did his job.

The University of Hyderabad SC/ST Teachers and Officers Forum also condemned remarks made by HRD Minister Smriti Irani at a press conference in New Delhi and alleged she had “misrepresented” facts and “misled the nation”. “We express our solidarity with students who are protesting against the death of Rohith Vemula and demand the immediate revocation of suspension and removal of police cases filed against our students,” the Forum said in a statement.

Sources in the university administration have told The Indian Express that the decision was taken in an emergency meeting of the Executive Council (highest decision-making body) of the university and will be communicated soon to the agitating students on campus. This, HCU officials added, has been done to calm rising tempers on the university campus, which has virtually stopped functioning for the last four days.

Suspension of four research scholars is being revoked at the cost of life of one research scholar!!
In fact, research scholars are slaves (Koththadimai) in any university.
I am telling this with all my past experience as a research scholar in one of the deemed universities in Tamilnadu.
