[h=3]Dad dies after 'downing' full bottle of tequila in Domincan Republic nightclub[/h]The dad of a newborn baby has died after "downing" a bottle of tequila in a nightclub without stopping. Kelvin Rafael Mejía took part in the stunt in the Dominican Republic in an effort to secure prize money of 40,000 pesos - the equivalent of roughly £680. After ingesting the full bottle, Mejía raised his arms in jubilation and remained conscious long enough to be handed his prize money, but seconds later could be seen wobbling around before collapsing.

[h=3]Thousands of immigrant detainees sue private prison firm over 'forced' labor[/h]During part of her time in an immigrant detention center in Colorado, Grisel Xahuentitla spent six hours a day passing out trays before meals, scrubbing toilets and scouring showers. She was participating in a voluntary work program that allows detainees to earn $1 a day to help with the upkeep of the facility. “When you are in there, there’s not a lot of options for you,” said Xahuentitla, 33, recounting her four-month stay at the Aurora Detention Facility in 2014. “You’ve got to follow their rules; you got to do what they tell you.” Shortly after her release, she and eight other former detainees filed a lawsuit against the operator of the facility, GEO Group, alleging the company was unfairly

‘Something like road rage’: Man punched by construction worker dies after traffic cone dispute

A man has died of the injuries he suffered when he was punched by a construction worker during an argument over traffic cones at a work site in Northeast Washington last week, police say. The victim was identified in court documents as Desmond Joseph, with no age provided. District records shows Joseph lived a few blocks from Thursday’s altercation in the 200 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE. The head of the construction company said the victim may have been angry at his inability to park in the work zone. Police said in a court affidavit that Joseph suffered a hematoma to the back part of his head and was hospitalized on life support. A D.C. police spokeswoman said on Monday that the victim died

Air India claims record with all-female round-world flight

India's national airline claimed Monday to have set a new record with the first round-the-world flight staffed entirely by women. Air India said its Boeing 777 travelled from Delhi to San Francisco and back again with an all-female crew last week, the first time such a flight has circumnavigated the globe. The airline, which has faced criticism in the past for grounding dozens of female cabin crew over their weight, said it had applied to Guinness World Records to validate the claim.

  • US mulls splitting immigrant children from parents

The United States is considering separating immigrant children from their parents in a bid to deter illegal migration, Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said on Monday. Kelly, in an interview with CNN, was asked whether DHS was weighing an initiative that would split children from their parents if they were caught trying to enter the US illegally. "I would do almost anything to deter the people from Central America to getting on this very, very dangerous network that brings them up through Mexico into the United States," Kelly said.

What H-1B visas mean for Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft

The Trump administration's policies on immigration are changing again as the president on Monday signed a revised executive order banning immigration for six Muslim-majority countries. The decision revives a controversial order struck down by a federal court of appeals last month. And still Trump's executive order banning refugees and immigrants from a handful of predominantly muslim countries from entering the country could just be the beginning. The Department of Homeland Security has laid out plans for more aggressive immigration law enforcement that could significantly increase deportations, and it will temporarily suspend expedited processing for H-1B visas for foreign workers. In an unmistakeable about-face -- and a victory for common sense -- Windows 10 will no longer automatically take control of your computer, and flip the reset switch, at the worst moments imaginable. [h=3]'A Day Without a Woman' protests across the U.S.[/h]American women stayed home from work, zipped up their wallets, wore red and joined rallies across the country to demonstrate their economic clout Wednesday as part of International Women’s Day events around the globe. The Day Without a Woman protest in the U.S. was put together by organizers of the vast women’s marches that were held coast-to-coast the day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration. School districts including those in Prince George’s County, Maryland; Alexandria, Virginia; and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, canceled classes because so many teachers and other employees were expected to be out. In Providence, Rhode Island, the municipal court closed for lack of staff members. Rallies were planned in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Washington and Berkeley, California. Some businesses and institutions said they would either close or give female employees the day off. (AP) See more news-related photo galleries and follow us on Yahoo News Photo Tumblr .
