Lawmakers look to stop shrinking airplane seats

Lawmakers are trying to put a stop to shrinking airline seats ... again. A bipartisan bill introduced in the House and Senate would establish a minimum airplane seat width as well as a minimum distance between rows. The SEAT Act of 2017 would task the Federal Aviation Administration to set the limits and require airlines to display their

High winds off lake turn western New York home into an ice house

While the Northeast braces for an expected blizzard, parts of western New York are already coping with the effects of extreme weather. In Webster, New York, on the edge of Lake Ontario, a summer home turned into an icicle haven after high winds over the weekend sprayed the house with waves from the lake. The winds reached 80 mph, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Rochester Gas & Electric reported on Sunday evening that 114,000 of its customers had power outages due to the high winds that gave the Monroe County home its icy look.

Baby gear injuries surging, often due to falls

By Lisa Rapaport (Reuters Health) - - Every eight minutes in the U.S., a child under three has an accident related to baby products like strollers, carriers, cribs and walkers, a study suggests. Injuries are on the rise, and roughly four in five are due to falls, researchers report in Pediatrics. “What’s surprising is how many children are still experiencing nursery product-related injuries serious enough to result in a trip to the emergency department - one every eight minutes,” said senior study author Dr. Gary Smith, director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

38 popular Android devices ship with malware already installed

Keeping malware off of your mobile device should be a top priority for anyone who purchases a new smartphone or tablet, but what if the battle against bad actors has been lost before you even open the box? That's exactly what security firm Check Point says is happening right now , and it just released a report claiming that it detected malware on 36 different Android devices being used by multiple large tech companies. The devices on which the malicious code was detected are thought to have been compromised at some point between manufacturing and eventual sale to the end user. "The malicious apps were not part of the official ROM supplied by the vendor," Check Point's Mobile Threat Prevention team explains in a blog post, adding that the malware must have been added "somewhere along the supply chain." In Check Point's investigation, the devices that were shown to have preinstalled malware come from many different manufacturers. They include: Galaxy Note 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8, Asus Zenfone 2, LG G4, Nexus 5 and 5X, and Xiaomi Mi 4i and Redmi. For better or worse, the malware found to be installed on the devices is fairly well known in mobile security circles and includes Loki, a malicious advertising bot, and Slocker, which uses the Tor network to send data back to its creator while avoiding detection. This is obviously a very serious situation, and it's certainly not the first time Android devices were found to have security issues right out of the box . Check Point hasn't revealed what company the devices belonged to, but that might not actually matter in the grand scheme of things, as it appears preinstalled malware is becoming something of a trend on Google's mobile OS.

Tenali Raman

Once Tenali Raman annoyed the King so much that the king ordered his executioners to behead Tenali. But
Tenali was granted one last wish and he opted that the execution must take place in a flowing river.

The king granted the last wish and no one understood the significance of the flowing river water. The next morning the two executioners and Tenali entered the river and stood in a shallow spot. At the count of 3 the executioners swung their swords menacingly!

Lo and behold Tenali was nowhere to be seen and only the decapitated bodies of the executioners were seen in the river!

The clever Tenali ducked under the water surface at the count of 3 and the executioners beheaded each other. Needless to say the king pardoned Tenali and made him his court jester once again! :clap2:

I can't help recollecting this story after the two submarines of the same country torpedoed each other !

Thailand seizes rhino horns worth $5 million in biggest haul for years

Thai customs have confiscated 21 rhino horns with an estimated value of nearly $5 million in the biggest such seizure in Thailand for years, officials said on Tuesday. Thailand has become a major transit point for the trade in endangered species to other Asian countries. The seizure of the nearly 50 kg (110 lb) of rhino horn came days after 300 kg of elephant ivory was impounded and a month after the discovery of almost 3 tonnes of pangolin scales destined for Laos.

[h=3]400,000-Year-Old Skull Fragment Points to Undiscovered Neanderthal Ancestor[/h]The skull bears a mixture of traits-some link it to the Neanderthals, such as a fused brow ridge, while other features are representative of other extinct fossils in Europe, according to the journal Science. Researchers made the discovery in 2014 in the Gruta da Aroeira cave in central Portugal and believe it is a member of the genus homo, according to the study published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS ). Neanderthals are thought to be the closest ancestor to homo sapiens, the species to which all modern human beings belong.

The ultra wealthy will get a $207,000 tax cut in the Republican health-care plan

Who benefits from the GOP health care bill? Monday, 13 Mar 2017 | 4:56 PM ET | 02:11 The proposed repeal of taxes that were put in place to fund Obamacare would give America's top earners the biggest tax cut. According to an analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, the health-care bill introduced by House Republicans last week would give the top 1 percent of earners a cut worth about 2 percent of their after-tax incomes. That shakes out to an average of $37,240 per year. The Tax Policy center defines the top 1 percent of Americans as those making more than $772,000. The top 0.1 percent of earners, those making $3.9 million or more, would fare even better. They would see their taxes cut
