Think or sink!

why some Gods are prominent by their instruments like, gudugudupand (dont know the actual word here), bow and arrow, spear, veena

Dear Sandhya,

All Gods and Goddesses are created by humans and given different forms as per the fertile imagination!

IMHO, there is ONE supreme power which keeps the world going and that power is to be prayed! :pray2:

But I too have ishta Deivam! :thumb:

Hello sandhyav ,its not gududupand as you stated its known as DHAMARU ,which one of the instrument specially been placed in lord shiva s hand ,hence he is known as DHAMARUGANADHAN .BOW and ARROW seen in lord RAMA known as KOODHANDAM ,hence he is known as KOODHANDARAMA ,also in MANMATHAN, VEENA is seen in Goddesses SARASWATHY /SARADAMBAL , HYAGREEVAR, certain HANUMAN temples also .The powerful SPEAR-Lord MURUGAN ,Has it ,the story of spear is very well known to all our people.Spear is known for its power, destruction of enemies, protection of his bakthars. It takes more time to give detail history ,hence its just a small information .hope we get more details .:pray2:

Dear RR ji,

Come to think of it we Hindus rarely have an image of a Sattvik God/Goddess.

Almost all of our God/Goddesses come with weapons capable of mass destruction!LOL

Dear Renu,

Most of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses appear with calm face but have lethal weapons.

So they will have to save the good and destroy the evil! :)

Gross over generalisation. Please show me a weapon in the hand of Bala Krishna or Saraswathi or Lalita Tripurasundari. Almost every God has a shanta swaroopam with no weapons in their hand.

Go by the dhyana slokas and not by the popular brand of pictures you see in the photos.

Mam, There are also Gods with animal faces! They are also Gods having Book, Flower, Beging bowl, Music Instrument, etc Lord Dhakshinamoorthy (who is in tapas/yoga) seems to be the exception.

Dear Sir,

I knew someone will ask me about Saraswathi..well she has a Veena in her hand and that can kill anyone with one blow on the head.

Bala Krishna sucked the life out of Putana so never mess with Krishna!

Lalita Tripura Sundari has a noose, sugar cane and goad in her hands..these itself can injure anyone if used with force.

So far the only unarmed Divinity known to us mankind was Lord Buddha.

Dear RR ji,

Yes I agree....so never mess with calm looking individuals we have no idea when even a harmless violin case might turn out to be mafia style weapons!

First you talked about *images* of the Gods and Goddesses and now you use over fertile imagination of using VeeNa as an Ayudha.

Well I can be imaginative too. Lord Buddha does not need any weapons for mass destruction, because he can release the poisonous gas you know from where when everyone is in deep meditation.

Dear Sir,

Lalita Tripura Sundari has a noose, sugar cane and goad in her hands..these itself can injure anyone if used with force.

As regards Lalita Tripura Sundari, I requested to pay attention to the dhyana sloka and not by the popular images. As you know sanskrit quite well, the word used for hands in the dhyana sloka is "pANiBhyAm", meaning only two hands (and not the usual four depicted in pictures) and there is no mention of any weapon in the two hands.

Lord Buddha was the cutest, sweetest darling of all times.

Can anyone look calmer than Him??

Dear Sir,

Ok will do.

Thanks.

There are two factual problems here.

Lord Buddha might not have been actually so cute. There were some persons who had seen him in blood and flesh, unlike the imaginary mythology of many Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Secondly Lord Buddha himself advocated 'nireeSvara", he would be grovelling in his grave if people thought he was an "ISvara" himself.

When we like someone or any form of Divinty that form looks cutest and best to our eyes.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in this case Lord Buddha was always described to be a good looking prince.

BTW tell me who or what is NOT God?

முக்கண்ணன் மீது ஏவினர் முனிவர்;

முத்தலைச் சூலத்தைப் பற்றிய சிவன்
அத்தைப் பணித்தார் “எம் படையாகுக!”

மான் கன்று தோன்றியது வேள்வியில்;
மண்ணுலகம் கண்டதில்லை அதுபோல!

விண்ணில் பாய்ந்து செல்ல வல்லது!
மண்ணுலகப் பொருட்களை அழித்தது.

சிவன் மேல் செலுத்தினர் மான் கன்றை;

:noidea:

I am very much here. Do not convert this thread into a free-for-all-fist-fighting-field .......
Oh dear Sis,

Do you think our discussion is like a fist fight? If you think so, this thread will turn out to be a soliloquy! :blabla:

P.S: I have already deleted on of my posts which was not quoted! :typing:

My dear Raji,
You have witnessed how harmless comments can be converted into seeds for verbal riots,
creating general confusions leading to closure of a cherished thread.
I will rather have a monologue than a dialogue with virtual people.
No need to get worked up. You have seen it happen in the other threads also.

Frequent fliers know the list of forbidden articles in an aircraft.

The list seems to be unending and exhaustive but it may not be so.

To know the reason please read on ...

It is forbidden to bring the following items into restricted areas of an airport or on board an aircraft

as unchecked/hand luggage:

  • Toy or replica guns
  • Catapults
  • Household cutlery
  • Knives with blades of any length, including letter openers made of metal or any other material that is strong enough to be used as a potential weapon
  • Open bladed razor blades - razors that can be opened and the razor blade removed. Razors that have the blade set into a plastic moulding are not prohibited and may be allowed on board an aircraft.
  • Tradesman's tools
  • Darts
  • Scissors
  • Hypodermic syringes (unless you notify the airline in advance and have a current letter from your doctor confirming you have a specified medical condition that requires you to carry hypodermic syringes with you. You should also be aware that the airline may insist that the medication be packed in a certain way and may be retained by the captain until necessary)
  • Knitting needles
  • Corkscrews with blades attached
  • Sporting bats
  • Snooker, billiard or pool cues
  • Any other article that could reasonably be used or adapted to cause injury to a person.
The articles listed above will be confiscated and/or consigned to the hold of the aircraft. When on duty, flight crew are allowed to keep certain articles, such as cutlery, when they are essential for in-flight duties.

I was told by a friendly airport employee that

an expert CAN KILL a person with a match stick!

Vallavan kaiyil pullum aayudham???
