Think or sink!

it is difficult to find ladies who want to be just fun and irreverent inspite of academic or professional excellence .

most like to go to conferences ,not only to participate in boring sessions details of which are given in conference proceedings but to enjoy the change of life and be happy

talking of other insignificant things.

they would like to see the beauty of the town , their pubs , cruises, mountains around , roam with gay abandon in shopping areas and see the night spots.

who would like intellectual garbage in seminar/conference sessions?

how does harem fit into all this unless you can think of a harem where smart men can be kept in bondage

You are right...when I attend such meetings or seminar its mainly to have a break and to chit-chat.

Who cares to hear even what is spoken.

I see so many people trying to record even lectures in their gadgets!

Then everyone tries to ask questions non stop and prolong their lectures when some of us might want to actually have a tea break!

Then most females will talk only boring stuff and then try to act so sophisticated.

Cant stand such crowd yaar.

Coming to a harem..there are no smart men!

most of my foreign trips after retirement were with my wife to exotic spots in countries all over the world where there were conferences which we chose only to enjoy

the place and visits to tourist spots organised by those organising the conferences. They were most convenient as the organisers arranged the trips to various tourist

spots ,hotels, transport meals etc . we were free to enjoy the hospitality of the country visited .great experiences

A very learned gentleman entered my blog of poems.

He made poetic comments filled with

original thoughts as well as quotes.

I was happy that at last I had found someone

who can talk to me in my own wavelength.

The very next day he vanished

as silently as he had appeared!

Who could he be??? :noidea:

Why did he appear?? :noidea:

Why did he disappear??? :noidea:

He is a brilliant young man with a degree in Business Management.

He maried the pampered and spoilt daughter of a celebrity couple. They even have a child.

This man was pestered to give up his good job and promote the products eof his parnts in law!

He was put under terrific pressure. His wife and child were used a baits to retain him.

Finally he thought that enough was enough. He got a divorced and found another girl - a real inncent victim of incompatible marriage.

Long ago the wife was forced to burn alive along with her dead husband.

Later she was allowed to live with a shaved head and and white sari to serve and help whoever needed physical help in the family.

Later she was left on her own to earn and raise her children single handedly.

NOW she goes in for a second marriage and most often succeed in this new famiy life.

We have come a long long way from the days of SATI!

The reason I read for SATI was as shocking as the custom of SATI itself!

Deadly Poisons were available in ancient India and no one could pinpoint the cuase of death - when those venoms were used.

So If a young girl wanted to get rid of her husband, it was very easy.

Just to deter daring young girls from doing such things, they were indirectly threatened with this fearful fiery end - to keep them out of mischief.

CAN this be true???

Long ago the wife was forced to burn alive along with her dead husband.

Not correct, not correct, not correct. There is no forced, enforced or cajoled sati at any time in any era in any yuga. In ramayana and mahabharath wives lived long after their husbands died.

Quote if any instance of forced sati is known or recorded.

May be the queens managed to live longer by sacrificing just one of the queens in the harem.

But for the commoners the life of a widow was made so very miserable that the wife must have opted to get burnt alive rather than suffer humilation all her remaining life.

Remember the story (?) of Eighty days around the world and how our hero saves a lady from foeced sati and the funeral pyre of her husband?

Queens can do what they want.

PaaNdu's wife Maadri sacrificed herself on his funeral pyre while Kunti lived on to take care of the Paandavaas.

Maadri caused Paandu's death unwittingly and unwillingly. May be that was an escape route from being torn asunder by her guilty conscience. :tsk:

expected; media reports. was she forced by her in laws or parents or the village. what happened, with such media glare and exposure, who was convicted as promoter or abettor.

it is NOT sanctioned by vedas or manu. even british reports in 16th and 17 th centuries mention about 600 cases per year in the four states - rajastan, up, bihar and bengal. there is none it seems from southern states, especially from tamilnadu. rajput ladies suffered a lot frm muslim invaders and resorted to mass self fire to escape indignity (now happening to yezdias).

matri ascended the pyre because she held herself responsible; kaikeyi did not when dasarata died. iso the generalization that it is a barbaric hindu custom is plain vicious propaganda.

our ancestors did not burn widows.

Dear VR ji,

Today since I was having a Public Holiday(its my state ruler's birthday..the Sultan of the state)..

Ok since I was at home I decided to cook a new dish using tender bamboo shoots.

I have never cooked it before and tried today..its really tasty. Now I know why Panda's love to eat Bamboo shoots.

It is soft yet firm and whitish yellow in color..I cooked it along with Lotus Roots.

Lotus roots is another favorite of mine..cooked it Chinese style and added some Thai Tom Yam paste to give it a sweet sour flavor.

But my mum did not want to eat bamboo shoots..she said its jungle food!

You know VR ji..jungle food tastes good.

I also like to eat edible ferns..it taste great when cooked in coconut milk and flavored with bird's eye chilli.

Ferns take quite a long time to cook..its a Malay dish.

Jungle food is nutritious..tender Bamboo shoots have a good protein content and also regulates blood sugar.

Dear Renu,
We become what we eat.
Small wonder that you are so exotic and out of the ordinary.
You eat bamboo shoots with lotus roots and Thai paste.
You cook ferns in coconut milk and add birds eye chilli.
No wonder you are sweet and spicy at the same time. :decision:
Except for the bamboo shoots and coconut milk I haven't seen
any of the other Utopian food items you have mentioned!

dear Mr. Sarang,
We can't justify the barbaric rapes by saying that only 500 to 600 cases are reported per year.
It is not just the number of the reported cases. It is the violence involved in each of those cases.
I have read in many stories where the queens of South India performed sati.
The words used are "udan kattai eRinaaL".
The custom has existed not just in India but in South East Asia.

Sati (practice) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Considering the population nearly 600 to 700 years ago,
and the number of married couples at that time
and the number of men dying leaving behing young wives
500 to 600 must have been a good % to worry about. :(

Dear VR ji,

One has to use only one bird's eye chilli cos more than that its just too much to handle.

Malay restaurants usually make this dish and I love it.

I also like Tempe...its Javanese fermented soya bean which can be sliced finely and fried...just season with salt and turmeric and you are done.

There is another jungle food called Petai..which as far as I know not many Indians like it cos this bean called Petai has a very strong smell that its called Stink Beans.

BTW I saw a chef on Zee TV prepare an Indian dish from Lotus roots..so I guess may be some Indians eat it.

Its really crunchy and tasty when cooked right.

Then there is also wild leaf called Ulam Raja which is small herb which resembles the leaf of coriander but bigger and longer..this herb is supposed to be eaten raw and it taste like munching on mango skin..a sweetish sour taste.

Then I also eat Gingko leaves raw..taste nice.

BTW even Lotus Seeds are edible.

I have eaten lotus roots also. I got confused since we call it as lotus stem. :)

Bird's eye chillies

This the chilli I wrote about saying

"It stings like a scorpion and bites like and adder!".

They are so tiny and even 1/4 of one chilli

is enough to scorch our tase buds! :flame:

who is justifying udankattai. wherever it was done voluntarily and one's free will, it has a different hue. matri was advised by kunti not to do that. it is the false image given to hindu tradition that widows were forced to commit sati. I wanted proof or references for this statement. many rajput women, after a defeat in battle, killed themselves either by jumping into the pyre or immolating themselves to escape a life worse than death from muslim conquerors. the practice did voluntarily for a noble cause as per their wish is amplified and projected in wrong light. instead of generalizing, such statements must be made with facts and context.

Dear Mr. Sarang,
Suicide is committed by one's will and wish.
Still it is considered a crime both legally and spiritually.
Whether the ladies committed SATI willingly or were
forced to do is not the point I want to stress here.
I want to highlight how much we have changed / advanced
from those days of sati to the present age of second and
even third innings in marriage for ladies India.
As for men and widowers they have always had this privilege.

L board!!!
My neighbor owns a car for over a decade. But the red L sticker prominently displayed in the front and the rear glass winows are still there.
The reason his wife gives is that the other drivers drive carefully when they encounter a car with L displayed.
But I knew the real reason when I saw the way she was doing back-seat-driving making him a nervous wreck.
So there will be the L sign for ever since she believes him to be
a L board driver! :car:
