A smile does not cost you money!
It makes you stand apart from the rest of the crowd!

paaththiram aRinthu pichchai idu! or

"Help the deserving people - not random people."

When we help the deserving people - even before they request for help -

we are helping then twice since the wise saying goes thus:

"He who gives in a trice gives twice."

What happens when we help the undeserving people???

They take us for granted and spread the word that

there is one BIG EmaaLi available and willing to be fleeced

to all their like minded friends/ relatives / cousins.

There after it will be a constant demand for the free service/ help.

No more requesting or seeking permission.

If the BIG Emaali can help X, Y and Z :loco:

he/ she can as well help everyone from A to Z!

See how it backfires on your kindness and generosity.

Such free loaders must be curbed at the very beginning.

Refuse/ deny the free service or set an astronomical fees

so that they themselves will opt out of the situation! :bolt:

If they don't opt out, they will pay through their nose

and it will generate enough respect and put a full stop

to the free advertising of your free service!

Some people expect NOT ONLY the free service but

some other free material as well as free service!

One neighbor wanted me to teach her tailoring
IN my house, ON my sewing machine, UNDER my fan
for free and provide the materials for stitching as well.

I MAY look dumb but I am NOT that dumb.
I cut off from her completely and immediately!

I had a wonderful and realistic dream 2 days ago!

I cast away my walking stick and walked past my friends briskly.

They all had such a surprised look in their eyes and I enjoyed it.

The causes of this sweet dream full of hopes...

1. My conviction that Sriman Naraayaneeyam is going to deliver me from my physical limitations.

2. Six months of devoted and sincere walking will make me shed the excess weight.

3. These two together will make the miracle possible!

May my sweet dream come true!

Then I will wear a nice fitting salwar suit and post my "chic' photo!

P.S

Today I went to my neighbor's house. Till she pointed out I did not realize that I had gone there minus my walking stick (A good omen???)

Other day I walked towards home leaving behind my walking stick at the temple.

Does this prove that I need the stick only when I remember it
and won't / may not need it if I can manage to forget it???

Dear VR Ji,

Try to wean off your walking stick eventually..you would gradually strengthen your muscles. It might be painful initially but over time you will improve.

I will give you a simple tip to lose weight fast..have your last meal(dinner) by 7 pm..do not eat after that till breakfast.
Make sure your dinner is fairly satisfying so that you do not get hungry after that.

When we stop eating by 7pm the body has time to digest food and does not go into storage mode..eating after 7pm makes body store fat.

Try this.

Some people do not like to have people visiting/ staying in their house. Not because their house is small but because their mind is narrow. They accommodate their own siblings and their spouses willingly but not the siblings of their spouses and their spouses! இடம் இருந்தால் உள்ளத்தில்... இடம் இருக்கும் இல்லத்தில்!!!
Dear Sis,

It also depends on WHO visits us!! Usually, I entertain all my guests, giving them whatever best I can provide in my sweet home.

But, I have had three families - one from our side and two from in-laws - and they invaded our master bedroom, closed the door all

the time and made us pack up our clothes in a bag to be kept in our guest bed room, till they left!! :dizzy:

So, the welcome also depends on WHO visits us!! :D

P.S: One mAmi took all the pillows in the house to keep under each part of her body!! :couch2:

Dear Renu,
We eat at supper 7- 30 P.M and brunch next day morning around 9 -30 A.M.
I want to make the supper time as 6-30 or 7 P.M. so that
I can retire for the night before 9-30 and it will be easier
to wake up before 5 A.M in the mornings.
But Hubbiji would not miss those two time slots of TV show!
As for the stick it is more to make sure that I do not have a fall
than to actually support my weight.
Now a days I plant the stick and use it as if it is very fragile! :)

My dear Raji,
I am at a total loss and unable to guess WHO might be the person(s) from outside.
As for the in laws I draw a blank with more solid reasons.
The fact that we ourselves give off the master bed room (if you can call it that)
to the guests coming from any of the two sides!
I am happy to sleep on the 5' x 2' diwan - as if during a train journey!
The master of the house is not attached to maser bedroom either.
He loves to sleep in the other diwan 6' x 3' which the kutties have named as The Pirate's ship! :)
I agree with what you say. But the party I am talking about DOES not want
anyone in the house except on casual calls lasting for a few minutes.
Very strong territorial instincts! :couch2:

We hardly realize the risk involved in traveling.
Even if we travel at the moderate spreed of 60 m.p.h, we will be covering 88' per every sec.
When the seat belt of the car is worn around the waist/chest, it can prevent us from flying off and getting bumped inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle if the windows are left open.
But it will not stop the forward movement of the part of the body above the waist.
The strain will be too much on the neck muscles.
That is why children under five years are made to sit in their booster seat facing backwards.
When the vehicle is stopped abruptly they tend to fall back on their seat and
will not fall forward as all the others in the car do - straining their neck.
I think that the toddler who go his spine detached from his brain must have been sitting facing the front as the adults do. It is really a miracle that the doctors could FIX the problem by fixing the brain to the spine! :clap2:

Front facing arrangement for the bigger children and

back facing seats for the infants and toddlers! :thumb:

I met a temple priest (who was from A.P) in an Indian temple in Chicago. The car seat of his son was meant for many purposes.
It can be carried around with the baby inside it ,like basket holding on to its handle. It can be gently rocked to make the baby go back to sleep when it gets disturbed.

The lives of housewives are planned around the activities of their owners/ masters! :whip:

The lives of those owners/masters are planned around the T.V shows and serials. :ranger:

So whether it is Dasara/ Diwali and whether we meet people after a year or maamaangam

and whether those people are talking to us with great interest making up for the lost time or not

when it is the time for the TV show we must manage to disappear from there and reappear at home.

Otherwise the neighbors can watch a real live show far better than the TV serials!

Talking about giving undivided attention -
even if we sincerely want to give it
the others will not let us give it!

Some people have this endearing habit of interfering with every conversation

to say something completely unrelated to the topic being discussed there!

They are the eternal attention seekers gone overboard and become most insensitive.

I wished my grandchildren "A Happy Dasara!"

Tejas asked my son ( his dad) "What is Dasara?"

My son said something softly. The next question put forward by Tejas was

"Dad is it already tomorrow?"

Tejas is brill int but he is yet to register that yesterday, today and tomorrow are

relative terms and not permanent like the days of the week / dates of the month! :)

That is precisely why people who are lazy to start anything keep promising themselves that

"It will be started Tomorrow!" and that tomorrow never ever comes!

I will have more faith if such people say "Now and today!" rather than the elusive tomorrow!

"DO it now" is as impressive as "DO or die!" :thumb:

Yesterday was the 'tomorrow of day before yesterday'.

Today was the 'tomorrow of yesterday' and

will become the 'yesterday of tomorrow'!

Tomorrow will become 'yesterday of the day after tomorrow!'

Feeling :dizzy: ???..... should be! But we should be thankful that

at least we have different words for yesterday and tomorrow

as well as for the day-before-yesterday and the day-after-tomorrow!

Here is a rhyme which kids used to sing 60 years ago -

to tease the monitor of the class! :)

"சார் சார் ஒண்ணுக்கு!
சட்டாம்பிள்ளை ரெண்டுக்கு!
நான் போறேன் வீட்டுக்கு! :bolt:
நாளைக்கு வந்தா கேட்டுக்கோ!!"

Prayer Meditations

May all be well with the people!
May the rulers rule the earth righteously!
May there be welfare at all times
for all animals and people of wisdom!
May all the living beings become happy!

(from a book we received as yagna prasaadam from the hands of poojya Swami Dayanada)

The happiness / peace of mind of each one of is affected by that of the people around us.

No point in praying that "I should be happy and at peace always".

It will make more sense to pray for everybody's happiness / peace of mind!

Devi showed her involvement in our pooja and presence by these rare events.

A big solid black bee ( like a Nano car shrunk to the seize of a bee)

flew round once the temple mandapam at the beginning of today's dasara pooja.

The same bee came at the end of the pooja and flew around one more time.

Bramari may be one of the forms Devi assumes so that people will not get

scared when she decides to visit them.

A black butterfly also fluttered by during the pooja. Once it came and settled on

the base of me left thumb and stayed there for a very long time.

I felt really charged with fresh energy!
