An interesting article on making eye contacts or avoiding them!

98. Body Language

At times our words can hide our real feelings—may be due to lying, or due tense, frightened and embarrassed feelings. At such times, truth emerges in non-verbal forms– involving change in postures, gestures, twitches and facial expressions.

All these are now denoted by the very popular term “Body Language”. It is a part of Para language.

Body language included several subtle movements like winking, moving eye brows and other facial expressions. A person crossing his arms across his chest may show his opposition to an idea, or keep aloof by putting a barrier between him and the world.

One of the most important means of non verbal communication is the eye contact. Intense eye contacts have measurable physiological effects, such as increased pulse rate and changes in the complexion and color of the face. A person blushes with excitement or shame, grows pale in fear and turns red when angry. These body languages are understood universally.

At the place of work, intense eye contact may mean superiority or hostility. Looking away is a signal of submission, weakness and evasion. Clenched fist shows the effort made to hold one’s temper and biting nails is an anxiety syndrome.

An averted gaze shows disloyalty or falsehood. Head turned to one side with unfocused gaze means boredom. Deceit and withholding of vital information is accompanied by touching ones face during conversation.

Much of the body language is culture oriented. In some cultures youngsters and subordinates are forbidden to look into the eyes of older people and those in authority. In these cases an averted glance need not signify falsehood or deceit. It may be due to the respect being shown.

The study of non verbal communication is much older than we tend imagine. Today the people are aware of the significances of their gestures and postures and use them wisely to create the impression they want to create.

Dances (the forms involving elaborate abhinaya) are also a non verbal communication - using the exaggerated form of our common body language which are conveyed very aesthetically !

Weirdos of the world.

He was his class topper,

He decided to become a skipper;

And ended up becoming a rapper!

She was a great whooper,

He was her true worshiper,

Until she became a stripper!

He was a lousy rapper,
He was a lazy napper!

Wished for the life of a grasshopper
And ended up as a wood chopper.

When my dear sister related this I burst out laughing!

On second thoughts some people I know live to eat
and do as little work as it can be successfully minimized!

The major tasks performed during the day

1. brushing the teeth (or else coffee will not taste good)

2. taking bath ( or else food will not be served)

3. Napping to digest the food (or else eating the next meal will become difficult)

4. eating to replace the digested food (or else more napping will become difficult)

5. getting out of the warm bed cursing and swearing to eat dinner/supper.

6. Hitting the sack for a 10 hours long stretch of sleep filled with
conversations, debates, arguments etc to ruin the sleep of
the other poor souls who sleep ONLY at night for 6+ hours!

It is only Caring and Sharing that make our life bearable - with or without a grin!

A brilliant lad I know starts every sentence with these words, "I don't care......" :blabla

I told him one fine day,

"I don't care about how much you know.

I want to know how much you care for the others"

I also told him this incident.

A Mr. Know-All was exhibiting the breadth, length and depth of his vast knowledge.

The poor victimized man sitting next to him listened very patiently and said at last,

"Sir! Between us we know everything that needs to be known!"

Naturally the Mr. Boaster did not liked to linked with a lay man.

He gave him one of his queer looks as if to demand an explanation.

The lay man replied very politely,

"Sir you KNOW everything except that you are a bore. I know that you are a bore . So together we both know everything that needs to be known!"

So much for knowledge and wisdom, for caring and sharing, for consideration indifference in the top-

heavy-people ...heavy due to either the knowledge or the material packed inside their top chamber !

'Vidhya' must be accompanied by 'Vinayam' and not 'Garvam'.

I have become a member of the local library now!
I borrowed 4 books today. One off them was this!
Hilarious Hunting cartoon by John Troy.
I finished the entire book sitting on a bench in a park while the kids learned to bike with confidence.
The books hilarious.
I found out the secret of this humor.
The animals are attributed with human characteristics making them appear hilarious.
That set my mind wondering why animal characteristics on human look so horrible! :(

It is said that in America, God has created parents only to be ignred by their children.

I suspect it is mutual ...from watching the things going on around.

No one belongs to anyone and Nothing belongs to anybody.

This implies that there are no emotional/ moral/ family regulations!

Grown up son blackmails his mother and sleeps with her!

Daughters (age no bar) are not safe from the lust filled behavior of their biological father!

How do you explain the pretty teachers playing "Appa Amma viLaiyaattu' with their students and giving birth to children shamelessly.

As an extreme measure to retaliate for being reduced to the state of a sex puppet, the boy kills his teacher and the child he himself had produced!

Looks like some of the teachers join the profession to have an opportunity to pick the best young man who will remain under their control and fulfill their wildest sexual fantasies!

The lack of the sense of belonging maybe the cause of the drpression leading to murders/ suicides/ murder suicides and other forms of violence.

The moment materail satisfaction has taken over the love and affection between the family members such things are destined to follow!

Man needs money but he needs the sense of belonging more than all the money he can earn!

It is BODY! BODY!! BODY!!! BODY!!!! all the way.

The only two interesting things in life are gratification of the Belly and the Body.

As Thirumoolar has said 'Arunthuthal', 'Porunthuthal' are the two main tasks life, which interest from

the meanest worm to the most evolved human - through the rest Of the 'janthu's in God's creation ! :(

THE POEM I SHOULD HAVE POSTD YESTERDAY!!!

Two plus Two.

He loved her dearly too,
And took her to a zoo;

To do his best, her to woo,
But all she replied was coo;

He liked her lovely tattoo,
She feared it was taboo;

To stand under a bamboo,
He even tried, her, to boo;

Which was an unwelcome goo,
May be they do need a voodoo.

Today's poem!

Hoot or shoot.

She put down firmly her foot,
Which was the trouble’s root;

He wished very much to shoot,
But all he could do was to hoot;

She won’t let them have a moot,
He wanted to kick her with a boot,

It ended as a case of a real loot,
And she did at last, him, uproot.

He left with his eyes in soot,
Grudging the mischief afoot.

Modesty VS Celebrity!

I am appaled by the indecent exposure of some of the females branded as Celebrities.

What do they celebrate except the overgrown glands in their body (god made/ man made).

It is an ongoing competition as to who can expose more and in which novel and interesting ways!!!

The plunging neck lines plunge dangerously below the naval.

The slit in the skirt reaches as high as the hip bone or even the waist.

The sheer dress is a sheer shame leaving nothing to one's imagination.

The fig leaves covering the "Shame! Shame!" private (???) parts are

either zircon crystals or pearls or sequins drawing everyone's attention

to the very same spots they are supposed to 'try' to cover and conceal!

Even the 12 year old girls have to exhibit their assets

as soon as they become worthy on unwanted male attention.

I remember the 12 year old I was and my sisters and friends were!

I begin to wonder whether Exhibitionism is the other word for Being a Celebrity!!!

Today was the super one day - after holidays' sale?
Good were given at a discount t unto 80% off.

Imagine getting a sweater costing 50$ for a mere 9.90 $
So ladies and gents were buying in dozens (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1) :)

For my share I too bought 4 sweaters for less than 48$.
The sum of their original prices exceeds 150$ !!!!

December is the Season Of Music, Dance, Thiruppavai and other pleasant things.

December has also become the month of the birth of many new poets...

some of them are real poets and the others are self proclaimed poets :)

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Poetry lies in the ears of the reader.

Whatever is pleasing to the ears and eyes MUST BE A POETRY! :thumb:

Ingitham is closely related to Sangeetham.

Poetry is closely related to sensitivity.

That shows why musician are ever so gentle

and poets are so very highly emotional.

Without real emotion there can be no poetry!

It is the underlying emotion that holds the words together

to form a poetry- 'soothre maNigaNa iva!'

How do differentiate between a piano player and a typist -

both of whom have the similar overused finger tips???

Sherlock Holmes has the answer to this question.

He says that there is a certain spirituality in the piano players

which is completely absent in the mere typists!
He can't be more correct!!! :clap2:

Any person trained in any of the Lalitha Kalaigal can be spotted out in any crowd.

The dancers invariable have very expressive face.

The musicians have a pleasant face, voice and a matching temperament (like our Forum Arasi) :thumb:

An artist will be noticing the features - good, bad and ugly of everyone he happens to meet! :)

My Naughty poems long short are the result of the mental exercise -

a mathematical problem solving of relating completely unrelated words!

They weave a possible story out of the impossibly unrelated words!

They may not convey any deep emotion but they are the products of

a fertile imagination and try propagate new and unfamiliar words!

The Doctor.

The doctor was called to attend,

A man whose tummy did distend;

The situation made them contend,

What did the good doctor intend?

The poor patient tried to pretend,

Though secretly he feared a portend!

The patient on a stretcher did extend,

The doctor did his best, on him, to tend.

There is a saying in Tamil which goes thus.

முள்ளு மேலே சேலை விழுந்தாலும்,
சேலை மே
லே முள்ளு விழுந்தாலும்,
சேதம் சேலைக்குத் தான்!
சேதம் முள்ளுக்கு அல்ல!!

WOMEN will get dressed in revealing clothes!

Women WILL go to the places full of drunken-monkey-males at midnight.

They hope to come back home un-groped, un-molested and un-raped!!! :der:

Can anything be more farfetched than this weird combination of people, place and time!

No point in crying / protesting / marching/ howling after the damage is done!

WILL THE NEW YEAR RUN AWAY AND DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY

UNLESS THESE SILLY FEMALES WELCOME IT AT THE DOT OF MIDNIGHT???

indian society is diseased.

The spate of rape cases all over the country irrespective of time and place shows a deep malaise in society.

A repressed society in unable to cope with liberation of women from an old oppressive order.

Opening out to the whole world thru internet and mass media , mobiles has been a game changer.

This is causing turbulence leading to a churn.

The proliferation of such cases over time is one of the biggest challenges facing india .

Will india come to terms with the new liberated indian women?

I agree with you dear Sis. In fact, I was thinking of writing a kavithai but the thayyal nAyaki job deprives enough time! :becky:
