'Snakes and Ladders' game is changed as 'Chutes and Ladders' in the U S of A and the reason given is that kids

will get scared if snakes swallow them! If so, how come suicide games are NOT banned?

When we visited Myrtle beach, I was invited by a nine year old kid, to play a 'game' in which ALL the flowers (??)

carry guns and go about shooting! :nono: was my answer but the kid played alone, for hours together! :sad:

Jon Batiste

He was most recently featured on a new release from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis titled "The Music of John Lewis." It features material written by John Lewis, best known as the pianist and musical director of the Modern Jazz Quartet.

Batiste is also a coveted artist brand ambassador who is currently featured in ad campaigns for Chase Bank, the Apple Watch, Lincoln Continental and numerous fashion brands including Polo Ralph Lauren Black Label, Frye, Kate Spade, Jack Spade Barneys, Nordstrom and H&M. Internationally acclaimed musician Jon Batiste, a Forbes "30 under 30" who is the music director and bandleader for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," will address the graduating class and receive an honorary doctorate when Salve Regina celebrates its 67th Commencement Sunday, May 21.
Also receiving an honorary degree will be music industry icon George Wein, creator of the Newport Jazz Festival and co-creator of the Newport Folk Festival, among many other well-known events.
Batiste and his band – Stay Human – collaborated with Salve Regina's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance along with Newport Festivals Foundation on International Jazz Day in 2014 to perform for local elementary school students, conduct master classes for Rhode Island high school students, and perform an evening concert for the public – all in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival.
Wein and his company – Festival Productions – have partnered with Salve Regina numerous times over the years in bringing renowned musicians such as Batiste to campus. Other masters who have conducted workshops for local students and presented performances as a result of this partnership include pianist Danilo Perez, clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen and trumpeter Jon Faddis.

Once in a year, the 45′ tall statue of Lord Jagannath will be taken in a procession through the streets of Puri. The rath/ chariot was pulled by thousands of devotees. Anything that came under the wheels would get crushed.

The word Juggernaut is the Anglicized version of Jagannath. It has come to denote a relentless and unstoppable force that would crush anything in its path.

Recently the word has been applied to the giant trucks on the modern roads.

When we were kids, we used to learn everything from our elders.

They used their discretion while illuminating and educating us.

They would tell us what we needed to know.

They would not speak of things we need not now.

So automatically the input info was filtered and screened for our safety.

But the Internet does not care about the age or immaturity of the reader.

It lays bare all the facts - both useful and harmful.

When both the parents are busy earning money to support the family and

since they themselves may not be bright enough to answer the queries of their children

Internet becomes a vast source of information.

The social media brings together people both weird and wise.

The latest trend is to taste the thrill of kill-

by killing either the others of oneself.

Not only do they indulge in killing but also they record it

or live stream it for the others to watch and enjoy! :shocked:

Motions sensor lamp is a real blessing but not necessarily an unmixed blessing.

It comes ON when there is a movement in the vicinity and goes off if there is no movement.

The duraion for which the lamp is ON can be set bu us.

So the lamp used in the garage may be set to be ON for 30 seconds

and the one used in the bathroom may be set to be ON for 5 minutes.

The kids switch ON the light before entering the bathroom but

conveneiently forget to switch it off when they go out if the bathroom.

The 5 minutes' setting creates a problem when we are behind the shower curtain.

The light goes OFF suddenly - since there is apparently no movement.

A bathroom without a light is the darkest place on the earth - second ONLY to a solitary confinement dungeon.

Some people may even start to paninc . But the solution is simple.

Just drawing the curtain partly open and then closing is enough to switch ON the light again!

If the lamp cheats us unexpectedly, we can also cheat the lamp by some random movements! :thumb:
 
Good Samaritans will become very scarce in the future due to the scare they will be subjected to!

So much for the talk on 'All people being equal' and 'All are welcome to the land of immigrants'.

People grow to super sizes since they do not do any physical work unless
they go to a gym or take up jogging/ swimming/ yoga/ aerobics.

Once a friend demonstrated all the exercises she had learned from her physiotherapist.

They the movements involving household chores like sweeping without a real broom,
bashing imaginary clothes on an imaginary stone and drying them on an imaginary clothes line.

I could not help thinking that is she chose to the real chores instead of pretending to do them,
she will save a lot of money paid the the maid and also become more healthy and active.
 
The world is filled with screenarians.

Everyone is staring into some screen - small or large.

The older people become... the smaller the screen becomes.

Cost is no bar and the kids remains hooked all day long.

The desire to DO things has been replaced by

the desire to WATCH things being done by someone else!

Too many distraction for the kids of the modern age!

I wonder how many of them use these as educational tools!!! :(

மதத்தை வளர்த்தும் வாருணி அசுரர்களுக்கு!

கலசமும் கையுமாய் கடலில் இருந்து,
களையான முகத்துடன் வந்த தன்வந்த்ரியின்,
கலசத்தைப் பறித்து கலஹம் செய்தாலும்,
கடைசி வரை அமுதம் பெறவில்லை அசுரர்!

அனைத்து பொருட்களையும் தங்கள் வசமே,
அமைத்துக்கொண்டது தேவர்கள் கூட்டம்.
அமுத பகிர்விலும் மோகினியாக வந்து,
தமது வசீகரத்தால் வஞ்சித்தார் கண்ணன்.

ஆயிரம் யானைகள் பலம் இருந்தாலும்,
ஆயிரம் தோள்கள் பெற்று இருந்தாலும்,
ஆயிரம் ஆயுதங்கள் வைத்து இருந்தாலும்,
புய பலம் தோற்கும் புத்தி பலத்திடம்!
