A proverb a day to brighten the day!

152a. Ich habe viel zu tun und bin noch weit weg.
152b. I have a lot to do and far to go.

One must remain fully focused to achieve anything or to reach place.
Chasing butterflies and soap bubbles on the path will defeat one's purpose.

Life offers too many distractions and makes one sway from one's chosen path.
Comparing the long time results with the immediate results will make the choice easier.

footnotes:
Ich = I
habe = have
viel = a lot
zu = to
tun = do
und = and
bin = am
noch weit weg = far to go

1. Why was the morality rate of women giving birth different in different wards of the same hospital?

2.Why did the ward attended to by the doctors have more death than that attended by the less qualified midwives?

3. Why was giving birth in an unclean street safer than giving birth in a hospital?

4. What is the connection between all the above questions and the spreading of COVID 19???

Read on to find out all these answers and know the man who found the cause for the paradox!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

153a. Nur tote Fische schwimmen mit dem Strom.
153b. Only the dead fish swim with the stream.

Modern men especially the Law makers of many countries
have
learned several survival techniques.

One of them is
"Go with the flow after closing your eyes,
and ears and after de-linking your brain."

When all the input and outputs are cut off,
the person in no better than a dead person!

The proverb rightly states that

"Only the dead fish swim with the stream while
the live ones swim they way they want to swim".

footnotes:-
Nur = Only
tote = dead
Fische = fish
schwimmen = swim
mit = with
dem = the
Strom = stream

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

154a. Die Erde lacht in Blumen
154b. The Earth laughs in flowers.

Laughing Children give us immense happiness.
Blooming flowers give us immense happiness.

Plants and children have many things in common.
They both are among Nature's best gift to mankind.

Both grow everyday with the children learning new skills
and the plants putting out a new leaf, bud, flower, tendril!

It is the daily growth and the daily novelty that makes them so interesting.
The saying in Tamil is "nALoru mEni pozhuthoru vaNNam".

Plants grow in their Nursery, just like the kids do in their nursery.
Kids grow in their Kinder Garten - just as plants grow in their garden.

The wild flowers outside our house are in full bloom.
Their lovely colors and fragrance attract not just the humming birds but also men passing by!

Everyday people photograph the garden of flowers as they pass by.
They convey their appreciation - if see anyone of us make eye contact!

The rains water those plant and the Sun makes them grow.
But they give immense happiness to every onlooker. :)

Footnotes:-
Die = The
Erde = Earth
lacht = laughs
in = in
Blumen = flowers

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

155a. Raten ist nicht zwingen.
155b. Advice is not compulsion.

He who won't listen will have to learn by
experience.
Experience is a costly school but fools will learn nowhere else.

Often Advising goes over board and ends in arm-
wrenching when
the advisee chooses to ignore his advice and the adviser gets offended.

Suggestion works better than commanding or arm-wrenching.
There is no ego problem involved in giving one's suggestions.
If ignored, it is best to let the person learn it the hard way!

Footnotes:-

Raten = advice
ist = is
nicht = not
zwingen = compulsion

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

156a. Schande dem, der davon denkt.
156b. Shame on them who think badly about the others.

Character of a person is he really is and
Reputation is how he appears to the others.

footnotes:-
Schande = Shame on
dem = them
der = who
denkt = thinks
schlecht = badly
davon = about others

The Time has come when man realizes that he is just a small link in a long human chain.
He is just like a small drop of water in the ocean of humanity.
If he should keep well, then everyone else must keep well too.
He alone can't be well when everyone else is ill.
At the same time man is now scared of everyone else!
He is keeps at a safe distance when he has a conversation with anyone else.
Packets are left outside for a period of time and taken inside after cleaning with an alcohol swipe. Well! one can never be too careful in dealing with an invisible and (at present) invincible enemy!

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

157a. Man findet bald einen Stecken , wenn Man einen Hund schlagen will.
157b. One finds a stick soon, when one wants to
thrash a dog.

Necessity is the mother of invention.
Necessity makes us alert and awake.

We see things which we have never before registered seeing.
We find new uses for the stale and old things we happen to see.

siru thurumbum pal kuththa udhavum!
kONaik kazhiyum ENaikku udhavum!

footnotes:-

Man = One
findet = finds
einen Stecken = a stick
bald = soon
wenn = when
Man = one
will = wishes
schlagen = to thash

einen Hund = dog

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

158a. Man kann die Natur nicht ändern.
158b. One cannot change one's nature.

As they say a leopard can't change its spots, nor a tiger its stripes.
One can't straighten the tail of a dog or a pig - however hard he tries!

Women spend a ton of money and time in straightening their curly/ wavy hair or in
trying to curl or get a wavy hair out of their straight hair by using hot irons and curlers!

So true nature can never be changed permanently.
How much easier life will become if only they accept this truth!

Footnotes:-
Man = One
kann = can
nicht = not
ändern = change
die = the
Natur = nature

The ONLY thing I have learned from History is that Man does not learn anything from History!
Man resists new ideas, new theories, now concepts, new methods and even new predictions.

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

159a. Man muss die Dinge nehmen, wie sie kommen.
159b. One must take the things as they come.

Beggars can't make special demands.
Beggars must be grateful for what they receive.

We are powerless while dealing with Fate.
We never were nor will ever become the Master of Fate.

So the best thing to do is
accept the things as they come
and try to make a good bargain out of every bad offer we are given!

My Bengali friend used to say very often,
"Hope for the best and prepare for the worst!"

footnotes:-
Man = One
muss = must
nehmen = take / accept
die = the
Dinge things
wie = as
sie = they
kommen = come

Too much togetherness is totally scary!!!

I guess distance adds enchantment not just to our view but also to our relationships.
Too much of anything is too good for nothing! Very True! Never doubt this statement!

East or West Home is NOT the best now!
Domestic violence is on the increase everywhere!

The stronger spouse thrashes the weaker spouse
and of course all the helpless children in the house.

I was shocked to read an article by a doctor claiming that
Children face more dangers in their homes than in their schools.
Accidents of all kinds and abusing parents may even get some kids killed!

Some marriages can survive only .....:unsure:

1. If each partner has a separate bathroom (y)

2. If they are lucky and get separate beds in the same room :giggle:

3. If they are more lucky and get separate bedrooms ;)

4. The luckiest ones here have an open marriage! :eek:

I think the first option is A MUST for surviving without blowing a fuse! :sick:

The last option is unacceptable for old fashioned old Indians like me. (n)

A proverb a day to brighten the day!

160a. Mit gefangen, mit gehangen!
160. Caught
together, hanged together!

Partners in crimes got caught together or
one after another very sooner.
Then they were hanged together.
Partners in Life and partners in death!

Footnotes:-
Mit = together
gefangen = caught
mit = together
gehangen = hanged.

They might have recited as their wish
"unnAle naan kettEn ennAle nee kettE"
