Hi TBS
Does "Namakkara Smartha" sect have any significance? Do you wear 'naamam' (thiruman) instead of vibhoodi? What is the origin?

Dear Brahmanyan,
Just for your information, I belong to " Namakkara Smartha family from Singanallur.

Our Roots

Dear Sri Kunjuppu,

Happy to read your response.

Since many members of Tamil Brahmin community have migrated from their villages of origin during the past two or three generations, the present generation of youngsters our community spread over many countries in the world will be eager to know their "roots". I felt that the Tamil Brahmins forum can help in this regard. Recently my query in another Brahmin Forum got me a positive response which helped to find our ancestral village called "pilluvalasai" near Avudayar Koil, in Pudukkottai District. Last month my son and I visited that Village and gathered some information about the Brahmins who had left long back as well.

Why not create a "Social Group" titled "Community Roots" ? This is one of the permissible activities and members can exchange information.

If you mouse-click the Quick Links at the top of the page, you will see "social groups" under the NETWORKING category, click on "social groups", slide down the page, you will see an option which says "create your own group".

Naina.
