This is all poochandi. let us enjoy our gravvy allergy or no allergy

What Poochandi?? Boy am I tempted to use a Tamil word that rhymes with Poochandi!LOL

Allergy is serious stuff..it can even be fatal.

So this is just as a caution to pure vegetarians that have never tasted Non Veg in life..do not attempt anything new just to adjust to surroundings.

BTW Krish ji..I dont buy the story that one needs to drink alcohol to just adjust!LOL

If a person wants to drink alcohol he/she can just drink but do not try to justify it by saying that you are adjusting with the crowd.

listen R ji I talked only good economics when I said beer is cheaper than water abroad
It is easier to take omlette to satisfy you hunger abroad when you get vegetable, green leaves in hotel when you ask for vegetarian fare . In europe, you have a language problem added to it
In north india chefs in dhabas or small joints make a single gravvy for both veg and non veg. there is always has some non veg content.in ground masala to make it tastier. They put paneer or koftha for veg and mutton or chicken for non veg. so there is nothing pure veg.
You may have to search a bit to get joints which serve veg food only. It is just not viable to run this joints
no point in scaring people with allergy warnings. a minority can be allergic to something or other. it may not only be food allergy
best is not worry all the time about such things
good to live life to the fullest consuming anything good for the tongue and filling your stomach in the most economic way with least inconvenience

A food should be attractive by it's looks (rupa), by it's taste/nutrition (rasa), by it's flavor (gandham) and by it's guna (sAtvik). A discerning human being should keep away from food which does not have these. Those who live by this rule, live happily and healthily.

Will this logic extend to drinking petrol, if it is cheaper than milk?
I was with you guys until I saw this, no Mrs. RR, this is not a logical analogy, petrol is not edible.

Beer is not cheaper than water, water is free, all you have to do is use water fountain, you can find one just about anywhere, besides, there are other alternatives to water that are cheaper than beer, like those dark colored or clear carbonated liquid in cans that passes for beverage. So, if anyone says they drank beer because it was the cheaper alternative to water, you know you are talking to a fibber.

I don't know about road side dhabba, but I have had no problem finding vegetarian food in North India during my travels, and I have travelled quite extensively to know. We have to look for Vaishnav or Jain food in the sign -- I used to add "pyaj nahi" because I can't stand the stuff. My problem was travelling around the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, they put onion in சாத்தமுது and தயிர் as well, LOL.

OMG!! How can anyone live without onions or garlic, they are an essential source of vital nutrients. And addictive. And very very tasty!!

I was in Germany in 1975, there bear was 2 Marks, water was 4 marks in all restaurants. I hated to part with 4 marks for carbonated water which I did not like. But beer was out of question, so I did buy water. In those days the restaurants in Germany refused to serve fountain water. I do not like Soda and it was as costly as water.
But 2 marks is not enough money to change my principles, if it was 2000 marks it might be different.

Manangatti!

In North of India?? Finding difficulty to have pure veg food?

What is this yaar? It is so easy to get Veg food in anywhere in India.

I am quite surprised that you seem to be kind of lax in choice of food even though you claim to be a vegetarian.

I am also a vegetarian and I make an effort to make sure my food is vegetarian and avoid eating anything that I have a doubt about.
Not that I am bothered about Sattva food etc..(I dont believe that food affects the mind..I have seen enough idiots who only eat Sattva food!LOL)..Ok back to the story..you see since I am vegetarian..I make sure I stick to it and not be so complacent about it.

BTW do you know that beer actually dehydrates you?

Who on earth would replace water with beer just becos it is cheaper?

You remind me of a TB from India I met a couple of weeks ago in a medical meet about his choice of food when abroad..His name also starts with your username..I am starting to wonder if its you that I had met!LOL

Wish I could visit 1975 Germany and drink beer cheaper than water. But then, I prefer wine to beer, and off and on scotch.... beer is alright, if that is all I have access to ....

Dear Prof. Sir,

When beer replaced water because it was considered cheaper, I was reminded of a comedy scene in which Goundamani says about Senthil,

'Osiyila kidachchA phenyl-aiyum kudippAn'. Hence wrote petrol, just for fun!

Ok! Only Garlic is added to 'sAththamudhu' and onion is reserved for 'thayir' to prepare 'raithA'. :)

Dear RR ji,

Yesterday night I was telling my husband that I wonder why people think that one should drink alcohol just to join the crowd..if someone offers us petrol would anyone drink it ?OL

BTW I have seen cases of petrol poisoning here..once a guy drank petrol cos his girlfriend ditched him but luckily nothing happened to him..there is risk of aspiration pneumonia in such cases.

Then when he was conscious he kept begging me to call his girlfriend and ask her to come.

I called her but she refused to come ..she told me to tell him go and die!

So I told him..she is not coming and to forget her and get a new girlfriend.

Who worries about 'sAtvik' food!

Many Bs consider that non.veg stuff have better rupa, rasa and gandham!!

P.S: I hate 'Gobi manchurian' because of its looks!

No Mrs. RR, they put onion in சாத்தமுது also, at least in the star hotel in which I was staying. It happened to me and, as unbelievable as it may seem, I hate onion and not garlic,...as long as it is mild, like in garlic bread or the tomato sauce used in pizza, so I would have gobbled up a little சாத்தமுது சாதம் even with a little garlic, but even a small amount of onion and I will freak out, LOL :).

Dear RR ji,

I wonder if you have been the Chinese Vegan shops that serve 100 % Vegan stuff without onion and garlic which resemble Non Veg?

See pic below..Chinese Vegan Sweet and Sour Mock Meat.

Dear Renu,

I have seen but NOT eaten! My son used to refer to 'cauliflower' as 'kozhiflower' and never ate when he was young! :)

I am glad you said this Mrs. RR. What is satvik food anyway, as if there is any way of telling what it is. There is a poem by Swami Desikan called ஆகார நியமம். This poem lists out satvik food and non-satvik ones. Google it and you will find it. You will find some of the most ridiculous rules for what qualifies as satvik. Let me give you a couple of examples, regular purple கத்திரிக்காய் is good, but white கத்திரிக்காய் is no no. Resin from trees is no no, except for பெருங்காயம்.

Perhaps the religiously pious can design an instrument, like a thermometer, and we can stick it in and determine whether a food item is satvik or not!!!

Dear Nara ji,

I wonder if you had read some post I wrote long back that the orthodox can have a Dosimeter to detect Non Sattva "radiation"!

This is not a legitimate comparison, Petrol is not edible, but alcoholic beverage like soma bhanam has been part of human intake for tens of thousand of years. The real question, IMO, must be why do people shun a little scotch, or even wine or beer and drink what passes for beverages like coke or pepsi, or some such useless calories, why??? Well there are crazy uptight people I suppose -- just kidding :) :) take it easy!!!!

One of the two friends, who 'drank' together every evening, was in death bed! He knew that he will leave this world soon and hence asked his friend

whether he will pour at least one peg of wine on his grave, every evening. The reply was, 'Would you mind passing it through my alimentary canal?'. :spit:

LOL!

Nara ji,

I have no problems with anyone taking alcohol as long no one drinks in my house and I am not married to one who drinks..otherwise there is no problems with anyone drinking anything.

See..I am not an uptight person.

Dear Nara,

It is not ridiculous, if you don't search for the black spot in the white paper. Satvik food items are classified not based on their colour or shape, but the effects it brings to your personality/behaviour.

One has to remember that these concepts were not invented, but they were the realizations of people from India who had access to a plethora of tasty food items and spices over thousands of years. Most of them are a result of trial and errors, so there would not be an easy formula that defines Satvik.

You may choose to trust them (i mean our own ancestors), or start your own trial and error.

The best place for drinking a bit of decent scotch is on long international flights. lights like beer with 5percent alcohol is as good as water{some may protest] But home is hardly the place for such consumption. when you are in a hotel in a different town with a free evening,it would be nice to let go and enjoy beer with norukku theeni with old friends if available. This is how our working IT generation in addition to me thinks about it

I agree with Nara....As Veggies in North are a big number you have plenty of dhabas that serve you veg food...In Restaurants they make both the dishes and I rarely go there

During the last week end had been to the Delhi Ke Pakwaan food festival..Had sumptuous Veg food from Parathe wali gali, Om snacks and other veggie vendors..Really mouth watering Veg food..These vendors serve only Veg food

I don't know the conditions for 'sAtvik' food, set by our ancestors. According to me, the food prepared without adding dead or live

animals and birds are 'sAtvik'. Even if 'sAtvik', I don't like to eat anything which reminds me of non.veg stuff I happen to see in ads. :)
